Guest guest
I began seeing a practitioner a few months ago who does jin shin jitsu and also sells the Ziquin line of supplements. At the time, I was at 250 mg of Iodoral per night for my insomnia. She started me on a couple of supplements, one of which enabled me to reduce my Iodoral dose immediately and to bring it down to 100 mg a short time later. Then I had a conversation with another woman -- a nutritionist with many years of experience -- who was very alarmed when I related my history with Iodoral and told me that it is elemental iodine, which is stored in the tissues instead of being excreted (as organic iodine is) and thus puts one at great risk for problems (though she didn't say precisely what kind of problems). I told her of all the sources I knew of -- including this group -- that endorse Iodoral, and that I had never heard of any problems with it (at least, not the ones she was mentioning), and she was not impressed. She was so worried about me that I panicked and decided to see if I could stop taking it entirely. This I actually managed to do, within a couple of days, by increasing my dose of the one Ziquin product (Energy Endo Biotic, which supports the endocrine system, and is composed of Chinese herbs, B vitamins, and amino acids. It contains a very small amount of iodine -- 200 mcg per caplet. I am up to 4 caplets, thus less than 1 mg). I was able to sleep, without the use of Iodoral, for the first time since last summer. Then a couple of days ago I had a very stressful incident and had trouble sleeping for the next few nights. After going back over the information on Iodoral and not finding anything to support the bad rap it had been given by the nutritionist, I went back on it (while continuing with Ziquin) and was able to sleep again. I have a hard time believing that this person could be so uninformed. I did see on one website that elemental iodine is actually needed by some organs in the body. Another point is that my endocrine system was possibly so out of whack that I needed both endocrine support and iodine to get me back in balance. I think that the truth lies somewhere in between needing 250 mg Iodoral and needing to stay away from it completely. Feedback, anyone?
