Guest guest
I took ALA with Iodine for quite a while when I was first starting all this. I don't think there is anything that contradicts it. Steph Question about Iodine, ALA and RT3 Dear Steph,I am thinking about taking Alpha Lipoic Acid for my burning feet, as I have been advised by fellow sufferers. Is this contra-indicated when taking iodine?I sent a similar post to the OT group because it has another question in it about the effect of ALA on T4 to T3 conversion that is not strictly to do with the Iodine Protocol.I stopped taking iodine at the beginning of my cycle, about three weeks ago, to see if the pains went away if I stopped the selenium. They're still there. I caught a stinking cold as well! Thanks, MacG.

Guest guest
I would start out slowly with the ALA, rather than jumping right into high milligrams. Start with 10 mg and work up. ALA pulls mercury out of tissue and can pull mercury out of the brain, causing some effects from this mercury being pulled out, now circulating before it is excreted. Some researchers feel if one has mercury amalgams, one shouldn't take ALA until amalgams are removed, as the ALA will pull mercury out of the amalgams and into the body. Guest guest
Wow, Steph...I'm really surprised to hear that you haven't had them removed. My dentist told me that removing mine would not be possible because it would damage/weaken my teeth...He also said that silver/amalgam fillings are perfectly safe! Guest guest
Thanks, Linn...So, I guess 600 mg is too much...Does anyone know if it's alright to open the capsules to divide the contents and just swallow the appropriate amount of powder without the capsule? Guest guest
I will email you separately but please be aware that ALA is not innocent if you are mercury poisoned. It is a potent chelator - something never mentioned on all the products that contain it - and one which should be taken on a frequent low dose schedule acording to it's half life. I just wanted to mention this here in case anyone else is mercury toxic and does not realise how dangerous taking ALA can be. > > Dear Steph, > > I am thinking about taking Alpha Lipoic Acid for my burning feet, as I have been advised by fellow sufferers. > > Is this contra-indicated when taking iodine? > > I sent a similar post to the OT group because it has another question in it about the effect of ALA on T4 to T3 conversion that is not strictly to do with the Iodine Protocol. > > I stopped taking iodine at the beginning of my cycle, about three weeks ago, to see if the pains went away if I stopped the selenium. Guest guest
thanks Bruce, I failed to mention that. I was on DMSA for 3 months after amalgam removal before adding the ALAFrom: Bruce P <bruce@...>Subject: Re: Re: Question about Iodine, ALA and RT3iodine Date: Monday, April 12, 2010, 7:34 AM Yes, but one makes sure to detox the body first. Using dmsa which does not cross the bbb, then ala which does. It has been said if there has been no recent exposure then perhaps ala, but amalgams are recent exposure... DMSA is a prescription medication which has been approved by the FDA for lead-poisoning in children. It also works well for mercury. DMSA removes mercury from everywhere in the body except the brain, because it does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Alpha-lipoic acid(LA) is an over-the-counter supplement which has been found to effectively chelate mercury. Unlike DMSA and DMPS, LA will cross the blood-brain barrier, and so it can move mercury out of or into the brain. LA should not be used if there has been recent mercury exposure (within 3 months). Guest guest
Ok, thanks, Bethann...I thought the discussion on taking ALA was pretty much focused on whether it would be safe to take with silver fillings. I'm assuming that the fillings would deliver more mercury exposure (and over a longterm) than the other items you mentioned. I wouldn't really be worried about taking ALA if not for my silver fillings. Sherry > > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > I took ALA with Iodine for quite a while when I was first > > > >> starting all this. Guest guest
Sorry, Steph, I wasn't implying you should enforce a trimming protocol. It was just a simple request that people can honor or not. Trimming makes reading the daily digest so much easier. But others may have a different viewpoint. JoanneOn Apr 13, 2010, at 10:56 AM, iodine wrote:I don't require that here.
