Guest guest
Armour is known to suppress the TSH when you get adequate amounts of hormone. TSH's purpose is to call for hormone's to be made. But you have interrupted the feedback loop by taking outside hormones. The increase in TSH only occurs in those w/o thyroid hormones from an rx (in most cases - those undertreated may be the exception). Steph Iodine and zero TSH I take 50 mg of Iodoral plus the supplements recommended. I've been on 90 mg Armour for about 8 months. My recent tests show a "virtually zero" TSH, while the T3 and T4 seem to be midrange. There has been a lot of discussion about Iodine raising TSH, but has anyone else had a zero TSH? I had one private reply (thanks!) to my query last week, but wondered if anyone else has experience with this. Could it be the iodine, or should I be looking at pituitary problems? I'm 66, post menopause, and my other hormones are low, which I thought normal for my age. I also take 15 mg of cortef for cortisol, which runs low particularly in the a.m. I was having hypothyroid symptoms on the armour, but my doc authorized an rx for compounded thyroid, and although he threatened to reduce that dosage, he did not yet do so. Any ideas? Jill
Guest guest
Thanks, Steph. My doc thinks I'm getting too much armour, though. Even with the T3 and T4 in midrange, and a return of hypo symptoms. Could he be right, do you think? At lest I know it isn't the iodine. ladybugsandbees wrote: Armour is known to suppress the TSH when you get adequate amounts of hormone. TSH's purpose is to call for hormone's to be made. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. Are your T3 and T4 in midrange, although the TSH is zero? Is your doc happy with continued treatment for you with armour? Jill > > My TSH has been totally suppressed on both Levoxyl/Cytomel combo and > on old Armour/Naturethroid now. Guest guest
I take 240mg Armour--my TSH is .03 and frees are in upper quadrant, which I think is good. gracia JL wrote: > > Thanks for your reply. Guest guest
No I doubt that the is. Anyone who knows how to use desiccated thyroid knows that suppressed TSH is normal. Guest guest
Jill, I have a zero TSH also, and take dessicated thyroid along with cytomel, and also cortef. Plus 50mg of iodoral. My sex hormones run low also, so I get subcutaneous bioidentical hormones for those. I have concluded, and my doctor concurs, that my problem originates with my pituitary. My eldest daughter and siblings have similiar problems. My TSH was zero when my thyroid meds were too low and I still had hypo symptoms. When a doctor cut my meds based on my TSH, I became so severely hypo when my TSH came " into normal range " that I gaied 30lbs in 2 months; my hair stopped growing, my skin dried out, and I became so depressed I was suicidal. That will NEVER happen again. I will do whatever I need to do to stay well. So, my point is: My pituitary is faulty, thus treating my thyroid based on TSH is ludicrous. > > I take 50 mg of Iodoral plus the supplements recommended. Guest guest
You said nutritionist said low adrenals, but didn't indicate you are doing anything to address adrenal fatigue.Might want to get a 24 hour adrenal saliva test.Have to order yourself, as Dr.'s order a 24 hr. urine collection test, or a 2 draw blood test, which won't give an adequate picture of adrenal fatique. If you ARE adrenal fatigued, you won't be getting full benefit of thyroid hormone, since cells need cortisol in order for thyroid hormone to get in.Regarding the TSH, depending on the test range, (which is probably WRONG) you probably need more armour.Have you considered gradually increasing the dose, 1/2 gr. every few weeks, until you feel better, temps stabilise? The dissiness you describe is called " Orthostatics " . Take your B.P while lieing down/at rest.Sit up, and w/in 1 minute take it again.Stand up, and take it again.Should go up about 10 points. If it stays the same, or drops upon standing, you test positive for orthostatics.Possible causes; dehydration, internal bleeding, etc.Definetly could be adrenal fatique or insufficient thyroid hormone, or insufficient utilisation of thyroid hormone due to lack of ferritin, cortisol(adrenal hormone) or vit D.Might want to look at addressing this first, or in conjuction with iodine. If your Dr./insurance Co. won't give you enough 'armour' to increase your dose, w/out running out, couple of options; order it online, (its not that expensive) or " I spilled the whole bottle down the sink, need a re-order! " ;-) Jim > > > > > > I take 50 mg of Iodoral plus the supplements recommended. I've been on > > > 90 mg Armour for about 8 months.
