Question the monitoring sites...I am in the SF Bay Area. One site says our level was 10, 12 & now 14 today, the other site says we are at 27 now.Anyone know why such a large discrepancy? Thanks,AliOn Mar 14, 2011, at 8:52 AM, Judith Marg wrote:Pamela,Just wanting to stop and thank you here for the research you are doing and the information you are sharing as we try to sort this out.Blessings,JudyThey that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. It's the background radiation---it keeps changing. As long as it's within the boundaries you don't have to worry...

These use different devices and standards. It seems to be like comparing metric and standard measurements. One has alert at 130 and the other was much lower 18. So as long as the numbers stay consistent for your area under these different ceilings for trouble. We need to become more aware of these and find out whether these are truly independent in light of the defense department hiding nuclear testing when other viable explanations like Chernobyl are handy or Three Mile Island. Scary to read today that 40,000 died from Chernobyl in the US alone. Pam

Hi Pamela,

I must have missed something. Where do you get 40,000 died in the US from Chernobyl? Was there something posted that backs this up?

I emailed them people who list the chart at the radiationnetwork.com the other day, I asked why the Vancouver area read 17 and they said it was just reading space junk?On 2011-03-14, at 5:21 PM, Pamela Valley wrote:

Interesting as there is a 600 page World Health Organization document by many scientists involved with the 4000 figure again which was a Russian Scientist original prediction. this is 2 pages but interesting reading. Seems like they would have noticed 900,000 somehow. If I had not read this, I likely would have believed you. I still saw the figure of 11,000 more somewhere else in recent reading on all this tragedy.  Thank you Ali -Pam

To give us a glimpse of what the Japanese are dealing with today in the Northern islands these pictures give a feeling of the devastation. Four days without power, safe drinking supplies or a home to return to while 100 quakes of 5 on the scale have been felt. Trying to remain indoors or escape to safer area when the roads are such a mess. Pam

It's been up and down all day. I imagine that a significant increase in traffic

has been crashing the servers. It's up now but was down just a while ago when I

checked.

I don't think so. We trust a variety of basic tools for our safety and health,

including carbon monoxide detectors, smoke alarms, etc. Tools don't need to be

complex or advanced in order to be effective. I'm more likely to trust this

volunteered information than information from an official source.

Additionally, the other website that is monitoring realtime radiation is also

volunteer. So far, both groups generally support one another's readings. There

are anomolies but they can be explained easily - radiation levels fluctuate

constantly and are different even within the same city. They're can be

different even within the same house - radon is more likely to be concentrated

in the basement, with levels dropping off as you go higher within the house, for

example.

Oops. Now it's 24. Oh. I mean 27. No, actually, it was 24 when I checked and

then 27 the next time I checked a few minutes later. 31 is NOTHING but

background radiation. Oh. it just jumped to 53 in Denver. Now it's 61. It

was in the 40s when I checked a minute ago. Whoops. One minute later and

levels in Denver are back in the 40s. And now it's 51. And San Fran is back to

26. And someplace in Illinois went from 21 to 28 since I started this message.

It changes all the time - the map updates every single minute. RadiationNetwork

says that levels UNDER 130 are normal background radiation that we are exposed

to every single day.

Final reading and I'm sending this message:

San Fran is now 18

Denver is now 38

Illinois is now 34

Sorry if my tone is not the most patient in the world. I'm beginning to be

sorry that I shared the links to these maps. I had no idea that people would

freak out like they are and wouldn't read the information that accompanies the

maps. If people would just read the stupid notes that accompany the map, they

can stop overreacting when the numbers change!

For those of you who've chosen to NOT read those notes, here they are:

" The numbers represent radiation Counts per Minute, abbreviated CPM, and under

normal conditions, quantify the level of background radiation, i.e.

environmental radiation from outer space as well as from the earth's crust and

air. Depending on your location within the US, your elevation or altitude, and

your model of Geiger counter, this background radiation level might average

anywhere from 5 to 60 CPM, and while background radiation levels are random, it

would be unusual for those levels to exceed 130 CPM. Thus, the " Alert Level "

for the National Radiation Map is 130 CPM, so if you see any Monitoring Stations

with CPM value above 130, further indicated by an Alert symbol over those

stations, it probably means that some radioactive source above and beyond

background radiation is responsible. "

Note that the reference to a range of 5 to 60 is an AVERAGE, not raw numbers.

So a reading of 120 is still within normal counts, just not within the average.

Note also that the flag over a particular monitoring location will change to red

if levels exceed those that are normal. Yellow is good.
