I just started taking potassium bicarbonate. Dr. B has me on some stuff he got - I have no idea what it is because he got it in bulk and gave me a container of it.

salt question

Do you all test for electrolytes fairly often? I'm wondering since salt is necessary as a companion nutrient, particularly if salt loading. If so, don't you take potassium on a regular basis, too? I'm finding that my socks are beginning to leave lines in my skin. But, my arms don't seem as dehydrated. Debbie

I take potassium gluconate which comes out to 99 mg of potassium in one pill every day then every once in a while If I am on higher salt and I feel any of my muscles tightening I'll take another and that seems to take care of it.

I just bought a lb of potassium bicarbonate powder

from Beyond A Century for pretty cheap. The sent

it in an actual bottle instead of a plastic baggie

like some places. LOL, I save the empty bottles

for other stuff that I encapsulate. I spent 3

hours with the capsule machine the other night and

now I have six full bottles of capsules; milk

thistle, guggul, rhodiola rosea, eleutherococcus,

and turmeric.

To heck with that 99 mg per pill stuff :). I know

good and well I don't eat enough potassium rich

foods to get the RDA much less more than that, and

at 99mg per pill I'd be popping pills all day. So

now I can get my bicarbonate and potassium

together. I drink my salt water then an hour or so

later I take a little potassium bicarbonate, 1

serving gives me 1,377 gms of potassium. Of course

I'm chicken about taking a full serving. I just

take 1/4 - 1/2 serving once a day, and it seems to

be alright. No more swollen ankles! The 1 lb

container will last me quite a while. I despise

getting caught on the every thirty days

merry-go-round with vitamin shops or wherever. And

that seems to be their favorite thing. A thirty

day supply. :)

I like your idea! Will have to look into it. I don't mind most powders at

home. Just mix it in whatever :-) But, capsules are definitely the way to go

when at work. I don't think I have been taking enough. And, yes, I hate buying

everything every month or so. I'm trying to get everything together now, before

I raise my iodine.

Thanks Bethann,

We're both taking a dose of sodium bicarbonate daily and I've just ordered

this potassium bicarbonate, a much better nutritional investment. Also

while on that site I found several other of my supplements in powder

form. I'm totally with you about the packaging issues. thanks again.

With the RDA at between 3 and 4 grams I was just wondering how you make up the other

3900 mg. Certainly its very prevalent in foods depending on type,

Do you work it out as part of a diet plan?

If you are talking to me, I try and take 1 pill before I leave to work. I take another at my lunch time (10 am), another at noon, another at 2-ish, and the other 2 sometime before bed. I'm actually just starting doing this again. I'm thinking I'll have to take more, but we'll see. I try and add some potassium rich foods, but don't always think potassium when I eat. I'll have to start paying attention. I've been feeling some crampy feelings in my legs since taking more salt lately. My joints have been acting up a little, too. The joints may be something else. So, I'm trying little changes here and there to see if there is improvement.Debbie

  • 8 months later...

I see most folks use Celtic Sea Salt, but our local health food doesn't stock it.  I plan to order it online, but picked up Redmond RealSalt (supposedly an all natural " ancient " sea salt from Utah) for the mean time.  Does anyone have any info or insight into this product?  Will it do the job?  Or is it something substandard being passed off as something really great?

Any in put would be appreciated,Deb

Salt question

There has been an ongoing arguement at our house about salt. My husband does most of the shopping and tries to save money so he buys "Olde Himalayan Pink Salt" fine grain from the local grocery. I can't see any words on it that say it's unrefined. Is this the product we need to be eating everyday? I can't tell you the number of times of loaded with it and nothing happens. For pete sake my pathways are messed up enough without adding this injury. someone set me straight so I can tell my husand i told you so. Thanks in advance, Katy
