Guest guest
I know this is off-topic but since statistics suggest that 1 out of every 2-3 people will get a cancer diagnosis in their life time, perhaps some may want to file this information for future use.A very useful site about many of the effective natural protocols used for cancer can be found at: http://www.healingcancernaturally.com The following is a note that they have at the end of the Gerson page. Note by Healing Cancer Naturally on the current use of fats in the Gerson diet:www.gerson.org writes on Flaxseed oil and the Gerson Therapy: “Dr. Gerson found, after observing for a long time, that patients, especially with cancer and also with heart disease, atherosclerosis and so on cannot handle oils and fats, and that is why his book says no oils. Yet he was very much aware that the body needs a certain amount of essential fatty acids and that after deprivation for a year or year and a half, until the tumors disappear, there is a lack of essential fatty acids in the Gerson diet. He searched and searched and tried every kind of oil he could think of, everything from olive oil, sesame oil, safflower oil to sunflower oil. None of them were usable because in each case the tumors would regrow. Fats stimulate tumor growth. But after the book came out, he came across the work of Dr. Johanna Budwig in Germany who showed that one may use flaxseed oil and that it is well tolerated by cancer patients. It helps to stimulate the immune system, and kills the tumor tissue. He used two tablespoons of flaxseed oil per day - one at lunch and one at dinner [as salad dressing, on potatoes, etc.] , and after a month on the therapy, he cut it down to one tablespoon a day. He advised against cooking with oils. You can't cook with flaxseed oil because if it is heated, it deteriorates and causes problems. So the flaxseed oil must only be used raw and cold.”On page 147 of the book The Gerson Therapy published in 2001, Dr Max Gerson's daughter Charlotte Gerson makes the following statement " Dr. Gerson placed much value on the work of German lipid researcher Johanna Budwig, Ph.D. who recommended flax oil enemas in colon cancer and bowel obstruction.” More information on flax oil provided by Charlotte Gerson: Dr Gerson had created outside tumors on some rats. Every oil he fed them made the tumors grow. Then he started to study the work of Johanna Budwig and found that flaxseed oil not only made them shrink but took away plaque that had built up in their arteries. The Gerson hospital CHIPSA included flaxseed oil/cottage cheese in their regimen.Be WellDr.LFrom: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of Gail BuchmannSent: Thursday, December 02, 2010 2:52 PMiodine Subject: Re: Help with friend who just found out husband has colon cancer Look into 'The Gerson Therapy'. Guest guest
Dear Dr. L, I'm glad you looked into the Gerson Institute as I recommended. Please know that this is a cure in and of itself, when it is followed specifically. That is, the biggest obstacle to healing for people in general, regardless of said alternative protocol is patient compliance. Again and again there is the unwillingness to surrender habits, tastes, preferences, to what is actually good and going to work most effectively! Additionally, I would recommend looking into gravity-colonics, not just enemas. I have recovered from the most severe complications of IBD without surgery and conventional medicine. Anyone with specifically colon problems would tremendously benefit from a series of colon therapy. Please look into that and if you desire specific information, you may email me directly. Guest guest
Hi AThanks for the info.I am very familiar with Gerson and have been for many years and understand its ups and downs and am aware of its cure rate. However, it is not a magic bullet, as there are none. The Budwig Protocol is also a cure in and of itself when followed correctly and actually, in my opinion, a bit easier and cheaper to follow than Gerson. You are right in that compliance is a hurdle that must be cleared for the success of any protocol. Many just do not want to give up the lifestyle that made them sick to begin with.I do not usually recommend colonics because there are other effective ways to completely cleanse the colon without spending the money and the time and I am personally not a fan of enemas either. I have seen many people put out the money for colonics and not see a bit of improvement. I recovered from stage 3 colon cancer without colonics or even using enemas. I did very effective detoxification and cleansing of the colon. However, sometimes enemas are necessary, especially for pain relief. I would say that we agree that cleansing and detoxification is very important when healing from any type of disease. )There are many “paths to healing†in which one may get well from disease.  Research and education should be the first thing that one does. Knowing both sides of the coin will help one make a decision that is not based on fear.Be WellDr.LFrom: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of Princess GroovySent: Thursday, December 02, 2010 4:34 PMiodine Subject: RE: Re: Help with friend who just found out husband has colon cancerDear Dr. L, I'm glad you looked into the Gerson Institute as I recommended. Guest guest
Moderators, my sincere apologies, but I must respond to this because in my opinion it is misinformation. This is my last post on the cancer thread as the moderators have asked it to be taken to the off-topic forum. I am not a member of that forum. First of all, the studies Mr. Crow suggests were done with rats; Budwig is proven to work with humans. I have not heard of one cancer patient who is a survivor using only Mr. Crow’s “theoryâ€. His theory comes up every once in a while on the FO/CC group. Dr. Budwig did not recommend using fish oil. She was a world-renowned scientist and biochemist (PH.D) who studied fat metabolism and cancer and actually stood-up against conventional (scientific, if you will) cancer “wisdomâ€. She would have known if fish oil was a better choice. When we are dealing with cancer, a drop in markers or a “response†as it is usually called does not mean healing or remission. One is still dealing with cancer and usually if there is a response, conventional medicine’s answer is to “up the chemo†because more will certainly give an even better response….right? These terms (response, response rate, reduction in tumor) are used all the time in conventional medicine to make people think they are getting well. Response/reduction does not equal cure. One needs to read Dr. Budwig’s books in order to fully understand what she found out about fats as well as her entire protocol. It is a whole-body approach. There is much, much more to it than just an emulsion of FO/CC as Crow seems to believe. Understand that there are a lot of foods/herbs/vitamins that can produce apoptosis, but it doesn’t mean they will cure cancer. And, if one understands Budwig, one will know that it is NOT about apoptosis. ) Mr. Crow states: It has been postulated via " quantum science " that electron clouds created by combining flax oil and cottage cheese are central to the success of the Budwig Diet. It has also been claimed that emulsifying flax oil with quark changes it molecularly and renders it soluble. While neither of these theories have been proven, the second theory defies principles of organic chemistry. It's not my goal to make these statements laughing-stock, that may come about on its own in due course, but I'd want them proven if I was to believe these points that are " central " to MY cancer therapy are in fact science. In contrast, the Budwig Diet revision is well supported by glutathione references and essential fatty acids references in cancer research. The researchers did not mix either flax oil or cod-liver oil with whey, yet they got the result they did. Unfortunately, when it comes to health and well-being, “science†doesn’t have a great track record; especially when it comes to curing cancer. Just because Mr. Crow doesn’t understand or chooses not to believe “quantum science†does not mean it is non-existent.  None of the studies that indicated linoleic acid and omega-6 fatty acid stimulated cancer cell growth used a FO/CC emulsion. In other words they only used the oil – that is NOT the Budwig protocol. The emulsion is important, no matter what Mr. Crow would like us to believe.  Most would not be on this list IF medical science (studies, theories, protocols) was correct in the area of treating the thyroid safely and without causing more health concerns. So, do we believe all the paid-off clinical studies and trials touted as “scientific†or do we believe a person standing before us who is now cancer-free using an “unproven†protocol?  I would not want to be the cancer patient that tested Crow’s “theory.â€Â Would you? When one receives a cancer diagnosis, people literally crawl out of the wall (or so it seems) with “cures†and usually these suggestions are something they have read about or read an anecdotal testimony, but have no real experience with. Research, research, research and educate yourself – this applies to any health concern. Don’t take my suggestion or anyone’s suggestion. Take responsibility for your health or lack of it and educate yourself.  Then get focused and do what you believe will help to get your body healthy and well. )Be WellDr.L From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of Judith MargSent: Thursday, December 02, 2010 6:33 PMiodine Subject: RE: Re: Help with friend who just found out husband has colon cancer I recently came across this article on flax oil & Budwig.http://members.shaw.ca/duncancrow/Budwig-diet-revision.htmlThey that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.
