Guest guest
, are you taking Lugol's? If so, how are you taking it? People have in the past expressed concern about the potential for Lugol's to stain teeth. -- At 07:10 AM 11/30/2010, you wrote: >Hello I have been on the iodine protocol @ 100mg for just over a month and >my teeth which used to be remarkably white are now awful. >I mean quite a difference. Guest guest
The typical 3% hydrogen peroxide that is purchased at the drugstore is not considered food grade. If someone wants to use H2O2 for teeth, the proper thing to do is to buy the 35% food-grade type and dilute it. I have a quart in my refrigerator (cap kept slightly loose to relieve pressure) that is lasting forever-- probably should have bought a smaller bottle. My suspicion about the teeth is Lugol's staining which can easily be remedied, but we'll see when responds. -- >Problem is easily solved--brush your teeth with 3% hydrogen peroxide. > > >http://successfulhealthsolutions.yolasite.com > > > > > > Hello I have been on the iodine protocol @ 100mg for just over a month > and my teeth which used to be remarkably white are now awful. > > I mean quite a difference. Guest guest
I am taking Lugol's in ghee or coconut oil. I havent had issue in the past taking less than 100mg. I do swish with diluted food grade peroxide a few times a week, not everyday as my gums are sensitive. I am off to brush with it right now and will be back to report! Guest guest
-- it makes sense that you're only now seeing an effect on your teeth, because you're apparently taking a critical mass that is finally showing on your teeth. To be clear to anyone else reading this, I think this is the teeth staining that has been noted by others previously and that I always wondered if it weren't a fear more than a real possibility. Apparently, it's real. The teeth staining potential is one reason people have given in the past for taking Iodoral instead of Lugol's. --V At 10:21 AM 11/30/2010, you wrote: >I am taking Lugol's in ghee or coconut oil. Guest guest
One thought is to consider your Vitamin C status. Even if taking the recommended dosage for the iodine protocol, your body may need more. Amongst other things vitamin C plays a fundamental role in the formation of collagen of which the gums are made. Perhaps do an internet search for vitamin c + sensitive gums to see if you think this may apply to you. In addition, vitamin C is used to erase iodine stains. To understand the chemistry of this check out this link: http://chemistry.about.com/od/demonstrationsexperiments/ss/vitctitration.htm > > >Hello I have been on the iodine protocol @ 100mg for just over a month and > > >my teeth which used to be remarkably white are now awful. > > >I mean quite a difference. Guest guest
Yes, good thinking. I have used calcium ascorbate powder on my hands to get rid of the brown stain. So swishing with Vit C might well work on the teeth, better than anything else could. -- try the Vit C. If you don't have any powder, you could crush up a tablet. -- At 11:18 AM 11/30/2010, you wrote: >One thought is to consider your Vitamin C status. Guest guest
I haven't had a problem with staining, but that may be because I was worried about the possibility and have taken care to send my ball of (unmelted) butter / Lugols to the back of my mouth for immediate swallowing. Guest guest
,Try brushing with baking soda. If taking lugols, I would sip through a straw to bypass the teeth.Hello I have been on the iodine protocol @ 100mg for just over a month and my teeth which used to be remarkably white are now awful. I mean quite a difference. I am taking all companion nutrients and eat/drink the same as before, 95% organic, rarely eat out/drink, oil pull, etc.I have been on this group for over a year and a half and I had no recall of anyone mentioning this.Has anyone been through this and does it reverse? Maybe a detox reaction?Maybe I should salt load a few days in a row, I did at first when needed and I do use Celtic salt freely during the day in food, usually more than a tsp.I was a smoker for 15 years in the past and never ever had stains! I drink a coffee in the morning and always brush with seasalt and baking soda and dr bronners soap. I mean I am a pretty alternative girl and have detoxed many times in the past and this is just throwing me for a loop. I fully believe we all need a fairly high dose of iodine but this is rather shocking and people have noticed. Naysayers especially if you know what I mean. I would love to hear if anyone has experienced this and if it goes away or what can be done about it. Guest guest
Look forward to hearing your results of swishing with vitamin C. The dosage of Vit C you are taking does indeed " sound adequate " but as we are all learning each situation is unique and many factors come into play. For me hearing that your gums are sensitive leads to questioning why that may be ... what is your body telling you with that symptom? What other symptoms might your body be giving you ... etc... Because iodine is an oxidant and Vit C is an antioxidant is is possible that during an increased dose of iodine that you (in your unique nutrient status) may need then again more vitamin C? Does anyone have feedback regarding the use of Perque C Strips to test urine for Vitamin C? Link: http://www.vitaminproline.com/perque-c-strips-100-pcs.html Perque also offers a write up on how to determine your body's need for Vitamin C: http://www.perque.com/consumer-assessment.asp And then, without test results indicating your iodine (and other halides) status it is left up to guessing as to whether or not 100 mg of iodine/day is too much for you. On to more speculation ... Another thought that popped up for me was about fluoride. I've read that too much fluoride can cause teeth to turn color and while you don't sound like the type to have had fluoride treatments, drank fluoridated water or use fluoridated toothpaste ... perhaps there was a time in the past that you did or it was passed along to you in utero and was then stored in tissues. Now that iodine is being taken in significant amounts, what might be happening to any fluoride that may be being held in the body? Or, consider this dentistry article that talks about chlorine or bromide used to treat pools causing tooth discoloration: http://www.softdental.com/articles/Get_in_the_Swim_for_Tooth_Safety.html So perhaps it is not the direct contact of iodine on the teeth? Perhaps stirring up any one or all of the halogens might be at play with tooth discoloration? All interesting questions I guess but more important will be what the " fix " is when tooth discoloration occurs! :-) > > > > > >Hello I have been on the iodine protocol @ 100mg for just over a > > > month and > > > > > >my teeth which used to be remarkably white are now awful. > > > > > >I mean quite a difference. Guest guest
One thing I wonder is how well we really understand our teeth. (Gee, that sounds dorky, Anne... But stick with me a minute.)There was a scientist, now deceased, who claimed that our teeth are able to HEAL -- to build new "calcium crystal" if we didn't block this ability with toothpaste containing glycerine. He claimed that a lot of toothpastes leave a glycerin coating on your teeth that prevents new calcium crystal from being deposited. He claims that sugar doesn't rot your teeth, but that acid does. (On another list a guy said, "Well, the bacteria in your mouth eat the sugar & excrete acid, so that doesn't make any difference.") When I started experimenting with tooth soap, I found that my teeth became a lot less sensitive (which had been an ongoing problem with me all my life), & my son reported the same thing. I also noticed that I didn't have as bad morning mouth. Whether this guy was right or wrong, following his advice improved the ecology of my mouth significantly. So I still brush with tooth soap. But I don't know if his explanation of the situation is valid in all regards or not. Still, his different take on teeth really made me start questioning everything I "knew."Add to this, my son is on the autistic spectrum, & went through a long spell when he did not brush his teeth at all. (Long story -- extreme OCD & other problems. He would forget to brush.) During the time he wasn't brushing, he got no new cavities, but his teeth looked like hell. Once we got a partial handle on the OCD, he started brushing again, & his teeth looked much better -- but he started getting a lot of cavities. Now, wait a minute! Cavities are supposed to be happening when you DON'T brush, not when you DO brush. What does this mean? Then I read another source that claimed that the teeth are more porous than we realize, & that nutrients for the teeth actually come out through the pores of the teeth, from inside the tooth, & that if you are malnourished, THAT promotes decay, because the nutrients are not being replenished...A lot of times, mainstream medical concepts are built on shaky foundations, so that a real understanding is absent. One thing that occurred to me was that if the 2nd guy was right, & substances are coming out through the pores in your teeth, iodine could be causing you to detox in some way that something toxic is flushing out through your teeth. Of course, even if that is so, that leaves you with the quandary of how to FIX it... (Clearly if that is happening -- if that COULD happen -- that is a whole different issue than the iodine staining the surface of your teeth.)I guess the point I am questioning is that we all tend to think of everything that goes on with our teeth as being on the SURFACE of the teeth, but I think that view is dubious. The ecology of the mouth impacts your teeth, & your whole nutritional status impacts your teeth, & maybe we need to be adjusting more than just surface management of the teeth. Unfortunately, I don't really know how to apply this vague concept...Anybody read anything like this? Guest guest
it makes sense to me Anne  I brush my teeth once a day with baking soda.   since I have been on thyroid, adrenal and sex hormones, and iodine my teeth have grown! and are much healthier.  oh and the mag oil too.  teeth are the visable portion of your skeleton. Gracia On 11/30/2010 4:33 PM, Anne Seals wrote:  One thing I wonder is how well we really understand our teeth. (Gee, that sounds dorky, Anne... But stick with me a minute.) He claimed that a lot of toothpastes leave a glycerin coating on your teeth that prevents new calcium crystal from being deposited. He claims that sugar doesn't rot your teeth, but that acid does. (On another list a guy said, "Well, the bacteria in your mouth eat the sugar & excrete acid, so that doesn't make any difference.") I also noticed that I didn't have as bad morning mouth. Whether this guy was right or wrong, following his advice improved the ecology of my mouth significantly. So I still brush with tooth soap. But I don't know if his explanation of the situation is valid in all regards or not. Still, his different take on teeth really made me start questioning everything I "knew." Add to this, my son is on the autistic spectrum, & went through a long spell when he did not brush his teeth at all. (Long story -- extreme OCD & other problems. He would forget to brush.) During the time he wasn't brushing, he got no new cavities, but his teeth looked like hell. Guest guest
Sorry to take so long getting back to this post, I have some sick children, as well as myself! Well, I was swishing and brushing with the vit C and it has made a tiny difference. More so to my gums than teeth color, they feel less sensitive! We all have been taking higher doses of Vit C due to this virus, so if it was a vit c problem I am sure I would have noticed a difference? I am pretty sure that it is not direct contact with the iodine...I was really thinking the issue was...that this is due to detox from any of those thing ie flouride, chlorine, even maybe having my amalgam fillings removed. I am not sure what my parents had done, thinking they were being good parents, maybe the plastic coating on my teeth:) not 100% on that but I am sure we did the flouride treatments in school. And I used to live in a pool as a kid. I know my mom has tons of mercury in her body, what else who knows... To be honest I would rather have the toxins out than in, so will keep up a higher dose for now. I am sure this will resolve with more detox, and I will try to support my liver more to help, I use dandilion tea, seems to work good for me. Unfortunately this cant be longer as I have a bit more to write, my children are waiting, but I will soon to give update. Thanks all for the help and info, > > > > > > >Hello I have been on the iodine protocol @ 100mg for just over a > > > > month and > > > > > > >my teeth which used to be remarkably white are now awful. > > > > > > >I mean quite a difference. Guest guest
,I have had 5 gumline cavities fill themselves back in when I switched from Tom's of Maine toothpaste to baking soda/salt/xylitol combination  about 4 years back. Also tooth cleaning only takes them 25 minutes and gums are very healthy now. They have done 800 dollar gum treatments a few times  in past but mine are as healthy as likely to get from having had braces am bit squared off so 2 spots are 4s but everything else is best level.. Also am wondering if possibly your gums are the ones releasing smoking gunk into your mouth thru your bloodstream that iodine is digging out. Just makes me wonder about whether that is possible. I also wonder if you are taking a plain old absorbic acid form of C as you may need one with more full C that has bioflavidnoids and what not in it. My dr goes with I think it was 10 substances in C so need some food source when we take these other supplements of C. I don't know. Been doing C from beyond-a-century.com the buffered one and also some C sources in food. But wonder if you need to add some C food sources to your diet or better C supplement. It does really matter for any detox for me. I feel the difference when I forget it. PamOn Sat, Dec 4, 2010 at 4:38 PM, onesunnydaize <spinnsugar@...> wrote:  Sorry to take so long getting back to this post, I have some sick children, as well as myself! Guest guest
Thanks for taking the time to post given all that you have on your plate! Interesting to hear that your gums are less sensitive, I hope that continues to be the case as time goes on. RE: 'We all have been taking higher doses of Vit C due to this virus, so if it was a vit c problem I am sure I would have noticed a difference? " It is possible the extra Vit C is used up fighting the virus. When I first suggested considering extra Vit C for the teeth yellow I was thinking about increased consumption of Vit C ~ but the swishing sounded like an interesting thing to try as well. After that first dialogue I was remembering that the tetracycline antibiotics can also cause teeth discoloration so here again this is something ingested affecting tooth color, rather than something staining the teeth. (the mechanism of how this happens can be found via internet search) It seems that I have read that increasing intake of Vit C can be a remedy for that but haven't verified it so if you are interested it may be something for you to look into. I also liked what Anne Seals shared in her post which reminds us to think about teeth differently. Fortunately Vit C is well known to be safe to take in very high doses so you have lots of room to play with. You might have missed that there has been recent conversation on this list about using liposomal vitamin C which might be of interest to you. Look forward to hearing how things pan out. Hope you are all feeling better soon. > > > > > > > >Hello I have been on the iodine protocol @ 100mg for just over a > > > > > month and > > > > > > > >my teeth which used to be remarkably white are now awful. > > > > > > > >I mean quite a difference. Guest guest
You might want to try baking soda .
Guest guest
Yes I was thinking that the vitamin C could be used up with the virus! I will up my dose, but being a single mom I am not sure I can afford a more expensive brand(ie liposomal) and I really do not have the time to make it, plus gather ingredients. I will try to do more frequent doses. so maybe 15 or 16 grams as I am certainly feeling better, but the little ones are still a little run down.THanks Baxrox. I do fully believe the post Anne Seals shared(and thanks for the post). I know teeth can be regenerated, that is why I use toothsoap, baking soda, sea salt, now vitamin c is added to my regimen. I will try the xylitol as well, what brand do you use Pamela Valley? NOt sure if I have had tetracyline, but you never know if I was when I was little! > > > > > > > > >Hello I have been on the iodine protocol @ 100mg for just over a > > > > > > month and > > > > > > > > >my teeth which used to be remarkably white are now awful. > > > > > > > > >I mean quite a difference.
