Guest guest
Well, I can tell you from personal experience that not all allergies are permanent -- my own allergy patterns & my son's have changed repeatedly over time. But allergies are complicated, & there are a lot of differing "expert" opinions...My son saw a naturopath when he was about 6, who tested him & gave him a list of stuff he was allergic to. The doc put him on a VERY strict diet for a month or so, & then gradually transitioned to a rotation diet. He said that if you gave your body a rest from the offending foods for long enough, you could gradually reintroduce them. The doc's official position was that you can be healed from allergies in this way. One thing you might try is setting aside a fairly long healing period when she just plain doesn't eat out. (Restaurant food has a LOT of additives, & cross contamination. Even if you don't order wheat, your food will be prepared in a kitchen where wheat has been on all the surfaces, & the oil has been used to cook wheaten goods, & the cook had a bit of flour on his hands...)My son had a course of neurodevelopmental movement therapy for ADD/autistic spectrum issues, & it cured his allergies completely (for a time, at least.) His therapist reported that it was an occasional side effect of the therapy, but they could not guarantee it. The therapy is supposed to rebuild neural pathways & reorganize the brain, & the spot in charge of allergies gets fixed by accident. The effects of allergens are synergistic. My husband is only allergic to cats in hay fever season, when the hay fever has sensitized him. (And over time, he has less trouble with hay fever every year, because I have been working on it with herbs & nutrients for 30 years.) Sometimes removing SOME of the allergens (if you can figure them out) will reduce sensitivity to others. One of the claims frequently made for the liver cleanse is that it can reduce or eliminate food allergies. (To a lesser degree, any kind of cleansing & dietary improvement can help.)Vitamin C can ease allergic reactions, & in fact, that was one of the reasons I first started taking vitamin C, many years ago. I would definitely encourage her to raise her vitamin C levels. (Also try to stick to vitamin C that is not corn-based, or that has the corn proteins removed, because corn is one of the common allergens.)Essential fatty acids (a lot of omega-3s) can reduce inflammation, & therefore can reduce allergic reactions.Healing the gut has a LOT to do with allergies. One of the theories is that leaky gut allows undigested food proteins into the blood stream, where the immune system correctly identifies them as invaders, & makes antibodies against them. Getting the gut healthy is extremely important. In this area, at least, iodine should help, as healing the gut is supposed to be one of its virtues. Many kids with autism are sensitive to dairy, but their mothers find that they can drink RAW milk, preferably from a Jersey or other old fashioned breed of cow. (I refer you to "The Untold Story of Milk." This is a huge topic & off topic, but the book will clarify a lot of issues.) The 2 biggest problems people have with milk are 1. the American dairy industry has switched to cows like Holsteins, that produce more quantity milk with less fat, but they also produce a different protein in their milk that is more allergenic, & 2. the processing done to milk -- pasteurization at high temperatures, homogenization -- damages the protein & makes it toxic. (Among other things.)Healthful living can reverse allergies, but it is not a quick or easy fix. I know we're still working on it.AnneOn Nov 11, 2010, at 3:14 PM, Amy wrote: Hi, Just wondering whether anyone's had experience with iodine improving allergies. My partner currently eats a gluten free, dairy free and chemical free diet. This works most of the time and she's happy with this, but when we go out it's really difficult. Even to the point that she could eat some of these foods every now and then without so many problems? Or are these allergies likely to be permanent? Thanks! Guest guest
Thanks for the info. It all makes a lot of sense. Definitely agree with you about eating out - regardless of what she orders she always seems to feel 'less well' afterwards. And it's interesting about milk, because she seems to react to some dairy products worse than others, so it probably is a processing issue. It definitely is a long road, but the changes she's made so far have made a big difference, so I guess it's about continuing on that path. Have just ordered high dose vitamin C too, so will give that a try along with the iodine protocol. > > > Hi, > > > > Just wondering whether anyone's had experience with iodine > > improving allergies. Guest guest
ok will have a look at that. I'm pretty sure our doctor will prescribe it, but if it's cheaper, then that's good. Would you recommend starting iodine first, or LDN? She's just lost lots of weight and would be devastated to regain it. Would starting LDN first help this? > > > > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > > > > > Just wondering whether anyone's had experience with iodine > > improving > > > > > > allergies. Guest guest
I think getting your immune system back on track helps stabilize weight to where it needs to be.  I have lost 40 lbs while on LDN so I don't think it would cause weight gain as long as you are watching your input.  Something I read indicated some people gain weight on iodine though if needing to detox ... JaxiOn Thu, Nov 11, 2010 at 6:38 PM, Amy <amym5552@...> wrote: ok will have a look at that. Guest guest
Maybe iodine can help, but, wheat is a poison for human bodies. It cannot be digested and causes leaky gut in everyone. I would avoid it. As for getting glutened while eating out, she can take some bentonite clay and/or konjac root before eating to help keep the bad stuff from being absorbed. Continuing to avoid the toxic ingredients is still the best way to get healthy. And it's not just "allergy" symptoms, gluten causes autoimmune diseases...arthritis, ms, cancer, chrons disease, etc. Lots of issues that are qiute deadly. Good luck! Guest guest
Yeah I think wheat is bad stuff. I don't eat it at all. She rarely does, but still does on the odd occasion. Dairy seems to cause more problems for her than wheat though. And also MSG is bad. > > Hi, > > Just wondering whether anyone's had experience with iodine improving allergies. Guest guest
you order naltrexone - 50 mg tabs - mix with 50 ml of distilled water - then 1 ml = 1 mg ... I take 4.5 mg or 4.5 ml each night around 10 pmif you order from allday I would advise buying several packs (I bought 3 which is basically a year's worth of the naltrexone) because the shipping is high but it is per order ... or if you have other things you need that they carry ... 3 packs of 10 pills plus shipping was approx 75 bucks - which for a year's worth of a med  ... well let's just say my insurance co-pay is 35 bucks - so even with a script I would order from allday JaxiOn Thu, Nov 11, 2010 at 7:54 PM, ez <martis0425@...> wrote: Jaxi,  Can you explain how to order it and mix it yourself?? Guest guest
If is around she might be better able to offer an opinion as I believe she does both.  I have not started iodine as I have just started investigating it.  I would say probably to start one thing give it some time before starting another.  If start 2 at once you cannot know what is helping, causing a side effect, etc.  Iodine would be easier to start first since iodine is readily available OTC. Guest guest
Wow! Gluten free and dairy free! That's hard work.Take it another step and consider that it might also be mold, mildew, yeast or fungus causing problems. Check outhttp://www.knowthecause.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx It's a little crazy to think it is fungus, but if you listen to Doug for a while, it'll start making sense.Good luck.Lin.>> Hi, > > Just wondering whether anyone's had experience with iodine improving allergies. Guest guest
Yeah it's not easy. Although we try to be creative at home and make nice stuff, and you get used to it. It's not as easy when we go out though! Ah well. Will have a look at the link. Thanks! > > > > Hi, > > > > Just wondering whether anyone's had experience with iodine improving > allergies. Guest guest
I'm coming in to this discussion late, but I started on LDN and then found the iodine protocol. Others do it the other direction. I tend to think that if a person's issues can be resolved with iodine, that is preferable, so personally I would recommend starting with the iodine protocol first and waiting. However, for cases of cancer or multiple sclerosis, where time is extremely of the essence, I think starting both is warranted. The reason I think it is preferable to give the iodine a chance first is simply that, as free from side effects as LDN is, and as close as it is to a holistic treatment as Western medical has ever come, it is still a pharma drug. Better to resolve without, if possible, just on that basis. imo -- >Just wondering whether you think it's best to start iodine first, or LDN? > >Thanks > > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > Hi, > > >> > > > > > > >> > > > > Just wondering whether anyone's had experience with iodine > > >> improving > > >> > > > > allergies. It is so much more cost effective to do it that way many with scripts still order from India. Guest guest
Hi Amy, I started taking iodine in Feb/Mar of this year. In May, at 12.5 mg/day Iodoral, I broke out in hives for the first time ever at a friends house every time his dog would brush my arm. A lot of western medicine minded people would probably panic over this, but I thought it was a really good sign. I figured that I had released a lot of bromine into my bloodstream that was aggravating my allergies in a way I'd never seen before. In general I notice when I take iodine, I sneeze a lot more. It hard to say 100% since I don't pay for a lot of testing work, etc., but I'm convinced the iodine will help to diminish allergies & allergic reactions. Removing bromine from the system looks like its going to take a couple years at least, so its hard to say subjectively, but I think my allergies have gotten a little better. Hope that helps, Roman > > Hi, > > Just wondering whether anyone's had experience with iodine improving allergies. Guest guest
I would tend to agree with on this but it also depends on your symptoms and your options. LDN is quite helpful to MS and has a 20 year history of treatment. FM is being studied with ldn at Stanford currently in 2 smallish studies with 80% patients noticing significant changes. I have done 3 years of iodine at 50 mg and supplements. It took away breast fibroids in 3-4 months but the uterine fibroid remains. I think it has significantly speeded up guaifenesin treatment for FM. I was in the worst 10% that dr had seen. But still had 5 year pattern of sleeping 90 minutes each night on average and pain that medication didn't help. I was leary of RX medications offered for  sleep and pain as those side effects on GI tract, liver and kidneys seem to occur for me too often. I have found ldn helpful for sleep, and RA with minocin also. So sometimes it is a choice between which RX you think your body will tolerate. There is quite a lot of helpful information out there to help you decide. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi, Amy: I would suggest having your partner find a NAET practitioner in your area. NAET is an acronym for Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques (go to naet.com to find people in your area). It is a combination of acupuncture, accupressure and muscle testing. It has greatly helped me with my food allergies so I can now eat certain foods. I'm still in the process of being treated. She also treated my thyroid, adrenals, hormones and my tolerance for iodine went up after she treated me for that. It has been the most helpful treatment out of everything I've tried and I've pretty much done it all. It is worth the investment as you see the results and I didn't see many results with most other treatments or supplements I tried despite all the money I spent in trying to get well. I hope this helps. Laurie > > Hi, > > Just wondering whether anyone's had experience with iodine improving allergies. Guest guest
I'm going to a NAET doc right now and he's helped me with gluten and corn. I have several more food allergies but the doctor has a protocol to follow and we're not there yet. But I'm a believer! I'm feeling better and better every time I go for a treatment. I know it sounds out there but it does work. The web site NAET.com provides a lot of information and where you can find practitioners in your area.
