Doubtful. Lugol's was traditionally the treatment FOR hyperthyroidism. You can also use L-Carnatine, Vit C and Lithium to slow it down with the iodine.

By what measure are they diagnosing her hyperthyroid? I would not do a nuclear medicine test if I were her. They are toxic and she will be radioactive for 36 hours post testing that will be harmful to all around her. The RAI also goes to every gland and mucosal lining in her body.

Iodine causing Hyperthyroid ?

Hi!My mom ,87, just been told by her Dr. that her fast pulse is caused by an Hyperthyroid condition. She was already look after for hypertension. They plan to give her a nuclear test to know more about her thyroid condition. Is the one or 2 drops of Lugol she took since a year or so and that she stop a month ago could had cause her that hyperthyroid condition?Any comments? Thanks

she needs to get back on lugols at an adequate dose. docs will end up

destroying her thyroid gland if she doesn't.

Hi

I'm out of the country for a While so I don't know exactly what she takes for

her hypertension and neither want to ask her now so I't wont maker her more

nervous, causing her an even more fast pulse. Her Nuclar is set for April. I

prefer to be with her when asking more about what her Dr told her and on what

base the Dr sait she was Hyperthyroid. I will be then in a better position to

tell what medication she's taking

I comee back with that later. My main question was if that drop a day of Lugol

could had cause her her Hyperthyrodism. I doubt it and wanted to be reassure.

After all, in Japan the take a daily dose of 6 to 12mg of Iodine thru their food

and they are the healthyest people on earth

I just hope she don't think the lugol cause her that problem

Thank again and STEPHANIE for your support

one drop would not cause hyper, in the past is was always the cure. Probably

she needs more to get rid of it.

Hello Gracia

I agree with you 100% , Just found this link. Lugol is in fact use to treat

Hyperthyroid.

http://www.emedmag.com/html/pre/cov/covers/031506.asp

THe problem, try telling and take the responsability to tell someone, even if it

is you mom, to take your advise and take lugol, when her DOCTOR, the Spécialist,

tell her she need Radio active iodine to fix her hyperthyroid.

Now, I'm convince that never a drop of lugol could had cause her hypothyroidism

THanks again, ,

Oh RAI will *fix* her thyroid alright. So they can give her a synthetic thyroid hormone and make money off of her for the rest of her life.

I think it was the Merck Manual that gives info on treating hyperthyroidism with Lugol's. I found it recently.

I was HYPERthyroid at age 22 and had a partial thyroidectomy and then no

thyroid meds for 30 years, even though I was severely hypo. I know

that allopaths don't know what they are doing. now I take 100mg

Iodoral and I can't even take a day off from it--I really need it. I

have tried taking just 12.5mg too and was a total wreck, couldn't walk!,

so I think that taking too little when one is deficient can cause

problems too.

good luck with your mom.

Radioactive iodine

Surgery

Iodine: Iodine in pharmacologic doses inhibits the release of T3 and T4 within hours and inhibits the organification of iodine, a transitory effect lasting from a few days to a week, after which inhibition usually ceases. Iodine is used for emergency management of thyroid storm, for hyperthyroid patients undergoing emergency nonthyroid surgery, and (because it also decreases the vascularity of the thyroid) for preoperative preparation of hyperthyroid patients undergoing subtotal thyroidectomy. Iodine generally is not used for routine treatment of hyperthyroidism. The usual dosage is 2 to 3 drops (100 to 150 mg) of a saturated K iodide solution po tid or qid or 0.5 to 1 g Na iodide in 1 L 0.9% saline solution given IV slowly q 12 h.

Complications of iodine therapy include inflammation of the salivary glands, conjunctivitis, and rash.

ah. The effect of inhibiting T3 and T4 is transitory, lasting only up to a

week. Perhaps some of the myths about iodine are based on people

understanding only the first part (inhibition) and not the second (transitory).

> Iodine generally is not used for routine treatment of hyperthyroidism.

Because the inhibitory effect is only transitory.

Hi!

RecaP; Mom, 87,Her Dr wants to do a nuclear to check her tyroid , presume to be

hyperthyroid

I just receive TSH result from an indepandant lab

TSH 0.029

T4 19.18

T3 5.5

The lab analyst say she have normal T4 -T3 but her Low TSH could have cause by

stress or a recent virus. Told to check again in 1 month to see if there is

change. BUT, NOT , NOT use LUGOL, because it will worsen her conditon.

But I'm more incline to thing that 2 or 4 drops lugol/day will instead help

stabilize her TSH

What's your opinion?

TSH. Whas schedule for Scintillography and syntrhoid.

Went over Dr diagnosis and try lugol instead.

Her TSH raise from 0.029 to 0.26. T3 and T4 still normal. Thanks to Dr Lugol,

only 4 drops/day.

2 months later, Her Dr took a blood analysis once a week for 3 weeks in row, did
