Guest guest
I am not a pro by any means- I will let the others lead you but I am thinking adrenal when you talk about all the things you are sensitive to- in addition of course to thyroid. I know the others will tell you that synthroid is not the best as not having all the thyroid needs and synthetic. Do not be afraid of iodine- I would really suggest reading Dr. Brownstein's iodine book- it is so very eye-opening- we are so deficient and iodine protects us from so many things it is nothing short of amazing! I am dealing with adrenal fatigue and hypo with myself and daughter (15) and we are just learning-- but we take our iodine every day with all the supplements to go with it. We have a long way to go but did not get into this spot overnight. My daughter was born to a mother on bedrest with hypo/ low progesterone/ probably adrenal so of course she is my daughter There is a tremendous amount of knowledgeable people on here and I would believe them because they have lived it. has overcome cancer with iodine (and God's goodness:) when all the naysayers were at her back- she stepped out in faith and took the information that was coming on iodine and healed and continues to heal- have faith my friend! Pat > > Hello everyone > I'm so glad I found this group! I'm very overwhelmed by all the information and I'm not sure where to start. I have celiac disease as well as Hashimoto's. I am extremely diligent about eating GF/CF/SF. I am extremely sensitive to all 3. After I was first diagnosed with both auto immunes (summer, 2009) my thyroid levels must have gotten back to normal as I had more energy than I'd had in years. I had 2 major mishaps along the way and I haven't been able to recover. The worse was in February, when a naturopath recommended that I use a dairy substitute and suggested Rice Dream. By the end of the container I thought I was dying. You all probably know that the package is labeled GF but it's processed with a barley enzyme and isn't truly GF. I found out the hard way. As I said, I haven't been able to get healthy again no matter what I've tried. My GP said I would need to get on synthroid as my thyroid level was up to 6 after one of the mishaps. I knew that wasn't going to work. I took one pill and was sicker than a dog. Come to find out that it has sulfites in it and I haven't been able to tolerate sulfites in over 15 years. That was the end of that. Now my thyroid goes up and down with what I eat. I have so many food problems that it's hard to keep up with them. I had asparagus 3 days in a row and now my thyroid is in the tank again. I think asparagus has goitrogens and disrupted my thyroid. It takes about 2 weeks to bounce back if nothing gets in the way. I avoid soy, millet, cruciferous veggies and a list of other things that are supposed to contain goitrogens on top of my other food intolerances. > > My food sensitivities are numerous... salycilates and night shades cover way too many good foods. I think the overlap between them is that I have a histamine intolerance and I found an enzyme that lessens my reactions called Histame, but I don't want to over use it. Someone suggested I try the Paleo diet to get rid of my food intolerances. Unfortunately, it made things worse instead of better. The vitamins b-3, b-6 and c I started taking are helping to reverse all that but it's slow going. > > I think I am probably iodine deficient. I've done many searches for info about iodine and because there is so much conflicting info out there I had decided to err on the side of caution and stay away. In the past I've pretty much cooked and eaten without salt so it really does make sense. > > Before I found this group I started taking a kelp supplement. I also take calcium, vitamin D, iron (last blood work showed slight anemia), krill oil, magnesium, vitamin b-3 & b-6 (helps with histamine intol) vitamin C and a therapeutic strength probiotic. > > I may sound semi coherent but at the moment, I'm not feeling great. > > Would much appreciate some help with where to start. Suggestions as to what I should take/how much and what brands are best would be much appreciated. I'm going to head to WF now to get some Celtic Sea Salt or the equivalent, check out the selenium, iodine, vitamin A & AIP CoFactors (what's that?)and a vitamin C that's not so acidic. > > I'm in Farmington, CT and I don't have a good doc. My GP is ok but not very knowledgeable. I like her a lot because she's openminded but she learns from me and it's supposed to be the other way around. I lost my first child to cancer and as a result I have a needle phobia myself so I'm not good about having blood drawn - I have trouble getting myself to go (shame on me, I know). > > My science brain would appreciate it if there are some of you in the group with similar circumstances that could share your experience and tell me that iodine & related supplements helped get your thyroid back to normal, and also, how long it took. > > Sorry this is so long. I've run out of energy and WF is looking unlikely for now. Whew. Thanks in advance for your help & suggestions. > > >
Guest guest
So sorry you have had such a rough time of it. I hope that what the group can offer helps you to get back on top of things. The major amount of the information you asked about is in the FILES of the group under the new member document. Please go and look at that document. ATP Cofactors is a product made by Optimox which is Vit B2 & B3 that helps those with fatigue that doesn't seem to get better with anything else. It has been helpful to those that have Hashi's too. You will not find it in the store. The best forms of iodine are Lugol's liquid or Iodoral which is the pill form of Lugol's formula. There are references for where to obtain the Iodoral in the same document I referenced. Once you have had a chance to look it over please re- address the remaining information you still need. new member background & help! Hello everyoneI'm so glad I found this group! Guest guest
Hi , Once you've had a look at the files and have some specific questions, please include any related lab results you have (with the ranges, please!). Agree with what Pat said about checking out adrenal function. Low energy / allergies ++ are some definite signs that something deeper is going on with the adrenals. And you can't necessarily fix the thyroid without addressing underlying adrenal issues (? it may be why you reacted so strongly to the synthyroid). If you have the money, you can test for adrenal function through DiagnosTechs using saliva. http://www.diagnostechs.com/TestPanels/AdrenalStressIndex.aspx Let us know how you're getting on. We're here to support and share experiences / information. Be well. Ziggy > > So sorry you have had such a rough time of it.
