Thanks for posting this Betty. Two nights ago, I figured that I should rub

iodine on the callous on the bottom of my feet. I will keep at it and see it I

get results. I use Iosol for topical use and have had good results so far.

or twice a day. The skin horn thingy is just about gone. First the hard callus

part started shrinking. Now the horn is all gone, and only the bottom part

remains which is very soft and a little red. I will continue to do this until it

is all gone. I be the 7 percent would have gotten rid of it sooner.

No, Betty, I don't believe that Iosol is a superior form of iodine. Iosol

is a proprietary product which costs up to $20 per ounce, and each drop is

only 1.83mg of iodine. Contrast this with Lugol's which is available on

ebay for $8 for 4 ounces of 2% Lugol's, which has 2.5mg per drop.

Or, available at www.swansonsvitamins.com for around $12 for 2 ounces.

[i want to make it clear that I can only vouch for that particular seller

of Lugol's on ebay. It is the only one I have tried, so I am only willing

to vouch for this one seller, although there may be others who are valid]

Some people may feel more comfortable using Iosol because it is " clear " ,

that is, does not have the red stain. It is primarily composed of the

iodiDe form, whereas Lugol's has both iodiNe and iodiDe. According to Dr

Brownstein, the skin primarily concentrates iodide, so for skin

applications that may be sufficient. For internal applications it is not a

good choice because the body needs both IodiNe and IodiDe forms.

Iosol is a glycerine-based product, whereas Lugol's is a distilled-water

based product.

But what really troubles me is that Iosol is sold under false pretenses.

Below is what I have written previously about it. The quoted text is from

the Byron s' site:

http://www.wellnessresources.com/products/iosol_iodine.php

As it happens I take a couple of his supplements, but he's very wrong on

his claims about Iosol and that troubles me:

=============================================

>The Iosol Iodine Quality Difference

>Iosol Iodine is a proprietary iodine formulation that has been in

>widespread use since 1945. I am often asked what the difference is between

>this iodine supplement and others, and many have asked what the source of

>the iodine is that is used in Iosol.

>Iosol Iodine is in my opinion the premier iodine supplement on the market

>today. This is because of the superior water solubility of the iodine.

>This feature makes free iodide readily available for your body to use.

>There are two sources of iodine in the Iosol formulation. One is from kelp.

We have discussed at length that kelp is not necessarily the safest source

of iodine due to heavy metal pollution of the oceans.

>Iodine in kelp is naturally in the form of potassium iodide. However,

>potassium iodine is not very soluble in water and may be difficult for

>your body to easily use.

This is completely false. Potassium iodide is highly soluble in water,

that is where you start when making Lugol's. YOu dissolve the potassium

iodide, then add the iodine crystals which take a while to

dissolve. Iodine crystals do NOT dissolve in water, unless potassium

iodide is present first. That is how Lugol's was invented. [secondly,

elemental iodiNe is utilized by the body directly-- many nutrients the body

uses are not water soluble.]

>For example, if you get liquid potassium iodide on your clothes it causes

>a permanent stain of red. If you get Iosol Iodine on your clothes the red

>will evaporate out in a few minutes or readily come out with washing.

This is wrong. Potassium iodide is clear. Elemental iodine is red. Iosol

washing out is of no import but may mean it has less elemental iodine.

>In fact, potassium iodide has been shown to congest the thyroid gland when

>taken in high doses and is how Hashimotos thyroiditis was first discovered

>(Japanese citizens consuming too many sea vegetables). This is why I don't

>use potassium iodide.

This has been shown to be totally false, as Joan already mentioned. [it is

a myth that potassium iodide causes or ever has caused Hashi's or troubles

the thyroid in any way-- a pure fabrication and a lie that keeps people

from health.]

>During the production of Iosol, iodine is extracted from kelp and made

>into pure iodine crystals. This is not potassium iodide, rather it is an

>unbound form of iodine. The second form of iodine used is ammonium

iodide, a form that readily

>dissolves in water. These two forms of iodine are combined in a

>proprietary manner in a base of vegetable glycerin.

>Ammonium iodide is a combination of the mineral iodine and ammonium (NH4).

>This is a synthesized compound, not derived from a food source. It has

>superior bioavailability as the iodine readily disassociates from the

>ammonium upon exposure to water, producing a free iodide ion exactly what

>your body would like to use in metabolism.

This may be true, but potassium iodide is also super soluble in water.

I've spent enough time on this. imo, They are just using ammonium iodide

so they can charge more money for it, since Lugol's is something anyone can

make. Regardless, their nonfactual statements are troublesome and

contribute to confusion about iodine. Personally, I'm sticking with sources

that specialize in clarifying iodine, not muddying the waters.

===========================

Betty, if you're having good results with the Lugol's and your skin is

doing fine with it, stick with that. imo.

hope this helps,
