Guest guest
I'm not sure I understand the sea salt strategy with iodine...I take 1.5 tsp per day for adrenal fatigue anyway. It's not listed on the companion nutrients that I can see, only on the strategy for detox. So, for someone who already takes sea salt, would they add to what they already take, only when have detox symptoms arise?...or should they increase sea salt everyday with iodine? > > I consistently take the companion nutrients, but I don't consistently take the extra ½ tsp salt and extra vit C later in the day. > > Donna in IL > > From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of lookonthebriteside > Sent: Thursday, January 21, 2010 11:04 AM > iodine > Subject: Re: Weight gain and Iodine > > > > Donna...S you think your weight gain was mostly because you weren't good about consistently taking the companion nutrients? > > ________________________________ >
Guest guest
That’s sounds like a good base amount of salt Sherry. I found 1 tsp to be a good base for me now but I am only 5 feet tall. So you would salt load only for a bromide detox reaction. Guest guest
Actually, I thought that when others mentioned what I called " silent " detox, it meant that they were detoxing without any symptoms. In other words detox doesn't always have symptoms...It may be going on when we don't even know. Is my understanding correct? I think the idea that weight gain is a detox symptom just arose yesterday. If we recognize it as a symptom (which seems reasonable), then it's not really silent...It would be a big deal to me! Regardless, extra salt and vitamin C are only warranted when actual symptoms of detox are present (which would include weight gain)? Guest guest
Donna,I think the vitamin C is really a key and for me I don't detox without a B complex but I used to be very toxic and had 8 illnesses. Still iodine took away fibroids in 3 months. I think attention to liver help also got the weight to leave. NAC and liver support like silymarin or ultraclear shake both helped me to get out of the plateau and lose weight again. Someone on the list told me about beyondacentury.com vitamin c powder that tastes like lime. Easier to add to water and then not get diahrea from too much C for the body all at once which just makes things both easier and cheap. Pam On Thu, Jan 21, 2010 at 4:49 AM, Donna Iler <Donna@...> wrote: I have been thinking a lot about the weight gain as a toxic side effect because I have continued to gain weight – was gaining slowly all along, that 40 year old thing – even after taking iodine for a year. I think what the problem is, is that I have never had any of the other detox symptoms, which are immediate and make you feel bad – headache, rash, runny nose, etc. Gaining weight is painless in the immediate time period after taking my iodine, so then I forget to take more vit C and salt later in the day. Do you get what I mean? If I had a headache, I would be running to take the extra salt and vit C to clear out the toxins and get rid of the headache. But I feel fine, and forget! This month I have been challenged to get in shape for a ski trip at the beginning of Feb, so have been working out and really watching what I eat. Now we already eat well, lots of natural grown protein, fruits and veggies and low gluten whole grains, so mostly it is portion control. For the first time in 3 years, I am losing weight! In 3 weeks I have lost 6 lbs. So it is possible, and maybe I have finally got enough iodine working in my body to start the losing effect. Has it been worth it to gain some weight on the iodine? You bet! I feel a hundred times better in general, so the extra has been worth it. I just need to remember that my detox is silent and to take the steps to clear toxins anyway. Guest guest
If you are not having any symptoms on a high enough level of iodine then you are successfully moving the bromide out, so technically you are detoxing, just detoxing successfully which would be the goal; to replace the bromide and fluoride with iodine to reach saturation without overwhelming your body in the process. Guest guest
That is the question. Several things I have read over the months speculate that less then 25 mg is not enough to push the bromide out and there is a lot out there saying now that 50 mg should be the minimum dose to work up to keep it out. Of course it is dependant on conditions like the breast cancer site says for breast cancer 50 mg is minimum. We should be taking into consideration the weight of the individual as well. Just because we are adults doesn't mean the same dose is appropriate for all of us. All we really have is speculation unless you are working with a iodine doc who is doing the loading test and bromide levels with you over time on different doses of iodine. That is why many of us work up to the dose where we have bromide detox symptoms and then back off to a dose that we can take without the symptoms, stay there for a while then see if we can go up again and see how it goes. One step at a time. Guest guest
How did weight gain get to be a side effect for iodine? arg Bruce ----- Original Message ----- From: lookonthebriteside Thank you, Engtovo...I started on 12.5 mg 3 days ago. The only possible detox symptoms I've noticed are a strange sensation in my ears, and today, I started having a little bit of a runny nose. I'm terrified of the potential for weight gain now that I've started iodine (I've been eating 1200 calories and can't lose weight that I gained when I started on hydrocortisone, which I'm still on-I previously had no problem losing weight at 1200 calories). I'm 5'2 and probably 130 pounds. Can anyone suggest a good iodine dosing strategy, which would minimize the potential for weight gain? Guest guest
, This looks like low calcium levels, this from Adele : Because low calcium levelsact as a stress, the production of cortisone and aldosterone are stimulated and salt and water are retained in the body, often causing the breasts, hands ,face, feet to swell weight to increase 5-10 pounds If the blood calcium has been allowed to drop so low as to cause stress causing puffiness and weight gain generous amounts of protein,Vit C, pantotheniv acid(B5) are needed in addition to D3, calcium and magnesium. Guest guest
When we got to speculating that since the iodine is killing/displacing virus, bacteria, bromides etc, and some cant excrete all the toxins, fat is being created to store the toxins/waste. Guest guest
This is being blown WAY out of proportion. It doesn't happen to everyone and it is not the end of the world. The main focus is to get the toxins out and get saturated. It's a journey. You have ups and downs. You have issues to deal with but along the way you will get more and more healthy and that is the goal. Exercise, eat well, avoid junk food and you should do fine. Guest guest
I agree! The little weight I gained this year I sure don't think had anything to do with the iodine I think it was being laid up asleep 18 hours a day for several weeks. Just a handful of people out of hundreds have said they gained some weight and we don't even have all the details of their individual situations so the chance that someone is going to gain weight due only to adding the iodine protocol to their life seems tiny. In fact it seems more likely that those who had trouble losing will find it easier to lose weight, but iodine is not going to replace a reasonable level of calories or exercise, or solve a deficiency of another nutrient. I think all the fear of bromide detox in general is getting blown out of proportion. If someone gets a symptom try salt loading or lower the dose.
