I have noticed a decrease in vision since stopping my Kroeger Herbs Sunny A. Vit A is needed in eye health. It may have been the Vit A and Iodine combined that made the difference but at my last appt my eyes had gone from -.75 to -.50.

Iodine and vision (near sightedness)

My 8-year-old son just had an eye exam, and he needs glasses for near sightedness (myopia). The correction in one eye seems like a lot (-1.75). I have also been near sighted since I was about 16.Does anyone have experience and/or research regarding use of iodine for eye health, and can iodine help to improve vision and near sightedness?I've been giving my son 1 drop per day of 2% Lugol's for a while but maybe need to increase that, especially if it will help his vision. Also, is there any connection between vision and hypothyroidism?I think my thyroid problems trace back to childhood, even though I wasn't diagnosed till age 32. I've been monitoring my son for any thyroid problems too. I'm wondering if his vision issues are at all related to thyroid. Thanks!Judy

Hi Judy, This isn't about iodine, but we've found some eye exercises make enormous differences to vision.   My partner was at a stage where he would normally be considered as badly needing glasses, but he did the exercises diligently every night and within about 10 days noticed a marked improvement and within 3 weeks noticed an enormous improvement.   If you google " Bates " and eyesight, you should be able to find information.   We got a couple of second hand books with the exercises in them.

In my experience detoxing mercury, it went to my eyes, and my vision would get much worse while detoxing, along with headaches. Mercury seems to have an affinity for the optic nerve and eye. Fermented cod liver oil helps protect and detoxify the eye, and saturated fats and cholesterol will help to protect the optic nerve. It's very high in vitamin A, which improves vision.

Yes the connection between vision and hypothyroidism would be vitamin A deficiency. Fermented cod liver oil will help with both.

I always remember toxicity warnings about vitamin A...does anyone have suggestions for how to determine a deficiency and what's the correct supplement dose? I have very dry eyes and that seems to be a symptom of vitamin A deficiency.

Vitamin A is also critical to thyroid health,

Re: Iodine and vision (near sightedness)

Thanks--so near sightedness can be related to hypothyroid, and ultimately iodine deficiency? Very interesting.

After being near sighted since age 16, suddenly around the time I was 30, my *vision* suddenly got drastically worse in a short period of time. During that same time, I developed bad *allergies and mild asthma* for the first time in my life. I'd never had many cavities, but during that same time period, I went to the dentist and had quickly developed a *cavity* that was half the size of a large molar. And at 32 I was diagnosed *hypothyroid.*

I don't think it's a coincidence that all this happened at the same time within about 2 years. I wonder whether it's all hypothyroid related, and ultimately whether the root of all of these seemingly unrelated health issues is one thing: iodine deficiency.

I bet I was deficient in iodine when pregnant (I've recently read how critical it is for pregnant women to have enough iodine) and (sigh) maybe my son "inherited" the iodine deficiency from me or didn't get enough iodine in utero.

How would I know how much iodine to give my son? He's 8 and I've been giving him 1 drop of Lugol's 2% per day for several months. I know that's low, but I didn't want to overdo.

And I assume I should give him the full iodine protocol. What are proper dosages of C, magnesium, Celtic salt, etc. for his age? He already takes Carlson cod liver oil--he won't take the Green Pastures fermented CLO because of the taste. And I give him vitamin D3 as well.

Hi Barb,

I think the toxicity is another lie from the drug companies to get vitamins outlawed. I take between 10,000 and 30,000 along with whatever I get in cod liver oil. Dr. Kurt Donsbach told me many years ago, when he was in LA, he took 300,000 ius of Vit a to breathe. But, that is my opinion.Nonie

Hi,

In order to comply with list rules, I have joined the Iodine OT list and reported about synthetic Vit. A and natural Vit. A. Absolutely critical you should know the difference.
