Guest guest
Hi Lori, I remember reading in Dr. Broda book, and maybe also in Dr. Derrys book(sorry can't remember exactly where, but I am doing research in their books as soon as I am through typing this) that thyroid hormone doesn’t cause cancer. But that people who are hypothyroid(and hence taking thyroid hormone) are more prone to breast cancer because iodine is needed in every part of the body and being hypo is a sign a person is iodine deficient. For example, goiter is the thyroids way of trying to capture iodine and in many cases decreases as Lugols is supplemented in the diet. I am a Gerson Person, and I remember my Gerson doctor telling me when I started NTH that it was very important for me to take my Lugols solution daily. Kathleen thyroid hormone and breast cancer - I am finding this quite upsetting to hear there is a correlation betweenthyroid hormone and breast cancer. I take it and I'm really worrying aboutmy little girl now who will most likely need to go on it. I wouldn't evenwant to think of that causing any problems for her. We have a history ofbreast cancer in our family. Even my uncle passed away from it. Heactually had breast cancer. , what is your opinion? I might have missed not reading it. If does need to go on it, what can I do for her?Thank you !Lori
Guest guest
Lori, If you can, get the book Breast Cancer and Iodine by M. Derry MD, PhD. I am re reading it now and he makes the case how important iodine and natural thyroid hormone is for not only thyroid health but breast health. He gives both to his to his patients. Guest guest
Lori, I have had nothing but progress with taking iodine and thyroid meds. My nodules have all shrunk and my estrogen dominance has disappeared. If your daughter is young and takes iodine, chances are she may never get estrogen dominance which is probably a precursor state to breast cancer. My health was imitating that of my mother who had two breast cancers and eventually died of it. All the symptoms that she had and that I had, have disappeared rapidly since taking I started taking iodine. There is probably something to be elucidated in the relationship between thyroid meds and breast cancer that Dr F mentioned, but personally I feel quite confident about my present situation in comparison to how I was two or three years ago. At that time I was wondering if I was going to see my son grow up. I just don't have these thoughts now. I don't have fibrocystic breasts and nodules. I don't have estrogen dominance. I don't have the symptoms that my mother had. I put this down to 50 mg of Lugol's per day. It took very little iodine to sort all this out, I was taking something like 5 mg/day when I started and it took six weeks to get rid of my fibrocystic breasts. May be if you start your daughter on a small dose she may never develop the conditions for getting cancer. I'm sure if I had started iodine in my early 20s I would not be in the state I am in now. I might never have developed Hashimoto's disease and would may be have been spared years of worry about what was going on in my bra. Guest guest
Lori-- Kathleen's information is the correct information on this question. It's a case of, the correlation seen in the research is attributed to the wrong cause. The cause is a lack of iodine. Feel confident in taking your thyroid hormone because without it we don't function well. Feel even more confident taking your iodine, which is protecting you from all those baddies. -- At 01:17 PM 2/22/2011, you wrote: >Hi Lori, > I remember reading in Dr. Broda book, and maybe also in Dr. > Derrys book(sorry can't remember exactly where, but I am doing research > in their books as soon as I am through typing this) that thyroid hormone > doesn't cause cancer. Guest guest
Exactly! Also both Dr. Broda and Dr. Derry talk about how important thyroid hormone is to protect us against heart disease and is so important to supplement when need for our overall well being. We are so lucky that we have learned about iodine being so vital as well. Guest guest
Yes that’s true. Max Gerson MD found many many years ago that virtually ALL his cancer patients were hypothyroid and put them on Armour thyroid, usually starting them at 5 grains and slowly working downward in dosage as they recovered. And always included Lugol's solution for the rest of their lives. Guest guest
I don't think there is a negative correlation with taking thyroid hormone and breast cancer. I think the negative is in NOT taking it. Lower metabolic rates open the person up to cancers of all forms. My daughter is 8 1/2. She has been on thyroid medication since 4 yrs old. She is on 2 Grains of Nature-throid. She also takes 12.5 mgs of Iodoral per day. I have no fears that she is at risk either now or in the future of cancer. I keep her diet clean and high in nutrients. She gets other vitamin supplements as well. My son who is 11 is also on thyroid medication. He is on 2 1/4 grains of thyroid and has been on it since he was 7. He takes 25 mgs of Iodoral. If I believed there was a strong correlation I would be concerned for them but I am not. When you go on thyroid hormone it increases the metabolic rate which increases the need for iodine. So increasing metabolism burns it up faster. If you don't put it in then yes you will be at a higher risk. But the cause and effect is not the thyroid hormone but the increased metabolism. Guest guest
Thank you Steph! It’s definitely made me feel better! You know how much we worry about our children! My grandmother had a very large goiter, her son (my uncle) died of breast cancer and they thought my mom had breast cancer at one point. They also checked a lymph node of mine about 6 years ago (which thankfully ended up being excess breast tissue from nursing). It’s a very scary thought in my mind – especially worrying about my little having problems now. What amount would you suggest starting out on of the Lugols? I could also purchase Iodoral if you feel that is better for her and easier for her to take. She is quite tiny for her age. I know she’s barely 40 pounds if that. What other companion nutrients would she need to take? She is currently taking the selenium, an excellent raw multi, raw thyroid and Vitamin D. Also, what amount of Vitamin D would you suggest for her? I’m going to read through all the other posts a little later tonight when I have a moment. Guest guest
My Mom had breast cancer twice and died of lung, started at 39. My boys, one on autistic spectrum, other very mild issues. My oldest is 8 years old on Nature thyroid and no iodine. I am here because of the hair loss and autoimmune marker for me. I want to help myself and my boys, looks like we all need iodine. Thanks for posting what your kids take because my youngest is 5 and I can't find any vitamins that seem appropriate for him, they need higher than RDA. If I start my oldest on the iodine, what should i watch for since he is already on thyroid meds? > > Yes I do know how much we worry about our children. > > How old is she? Guest guest
I am finding this quite upsetting to hear there is a correlation betweenthyroid hormone and breast cancer. ------------ I like take 50 mg Iodoral and paint my breasts with Lugol's. I've been doing both for three years. I had a bad mammogram several years ago in the States and was told to get another one within six months as a follow-up. I took the risk of dosing myself following the Iodine protocol (all of it) and went up to 100 mg of Iodoral for three months and my next mammogram, which I waited 18 months to get and had done in France, was totally clear. I actually went to the American Hospital in Neuilly to make sure that the same up-to-date equipment was used and that the radiologist was used to reading X-rays from other countries, including the States. The radiologist was totally surprised by the difference. He asked what I'd been doing; when I told him, he shrugged. My thoughts on the correlation between thyroid hormone and breast cancer: Since the 1980s when synthetics started to become the norm for thyroid treatment, women have been poorly treated with T4 drugs, and those who were able to get NDT, mostly have been kept underdosed. Add those two facts to the fact that we've not been getting as much iodine in our foods (no longer used in bread stuffs, less in the soils, less in fish), nor do we get enough of the other needed elements (selenium, natural salt, vitamin C & D). It's no wonder that breast cancer is on the rise. However, I think it is due to deficiencies and mistreatments. Comments? Fibrojay
Guest guest
This all makes sense. I am 35 and having problems the past year. I am told my hormones, thyroid is fine. I have small cysts, long close together menses heavy, sore breasts, hair loss. My hands are cold and my temp is about 97.5 this morning. I am very tired. I am in the process of getting the proper testing done now, I hope. I didn't want to start the iodine until I get the thyroid tests done. > > I agree with you . Looking back I see so many warning signals prior to my thyroid cancer dx. My breasts also had issues along the way. It is interesting to spend time on the ThyCa group. Many come with thyca after breast cancer or get thyca and then later breast cancer. I always thought it was due to the treatment given but now I believe the strong correlation is iodine. I had several fibrous masses in my breasts that were eliminated with iodine - along with the thyroid cancer. > > Buist, ND > > > Re: thyroid hormone and breast cancer - > > > > What would one consider a “protective†dose of iodine? > > > > > Reply to sender | Reply to group | Reply via web post | Start a New Topic > Messages in this topic (24) > Recent Activity: > a.. Guest guest
I would totally agree. I haven't seen the study, but would have to ask, is it studying women on NTH, (highly unlikely, since medical community dismisses it so out of hand).Probably was studying T only, synthcrap, or T4/T3 combo drug 'therapy'.There are 14 substances thhat a healthy thyroid produces, and ALL of them have biological actions. This study would be like putting out a study saying " Study finds link between Thyroid hormone therapy and osteoperosis. " Well, DUH!! If your on synthcrap, your NOT getting any T-0, otherwise known as 'Calcitonin'.And what is the gold standard treatment for osteoperosis?....Calcitonin!How about proper testing to detect Hypo early, proper treatment with NTH having ALL 14 substances, and reducing instances of breast cancer, heart disease, diabetes, osteoperosis, as well as turning a " Missed Diagnoses " into a misdiagnoses with " Diagnoses of exclusion " i.e.Fibro/CF, IBS, RLS, and depression. And yeah, while your at it, how about eliminating the whole problem by increasing dietary intake of iodine, and eliminating other halides from foods and environment. Probably say bye bye to autism,ADD, AAHD, PTSD, and a whole raft of othe anachronisms which all stand for " We have NO clue whats wrong, or what caused it, but if we give it a big complicated sounding medical term, maybe noone will notice! " There is a new kind of Chiropractor specialist, that every ENDO should see;The Chiro-Proctologist; You guessed it, his task is to jerk your head out of your A**, and straighten your back so it won't go back in.However, like regular Chiro's its just a treatment, not a cure; you have to keep going back for regular adjustments.(I gotta go in again next week). However, their are some severe cases, like Endo's, that don't resond well to treatment. Then they give a refferal to a surgeon, to implant a plexiglass window in your belly, so at least you can see where the H*ll your going! ;-) Jim > > > I am finding this quite upsetting to hear there is a correlation between > thyroid hormone and breast cancer. > > ------------ > > I like take 50 mg Iodoral and paint my breasts with Lugol's.
