I was just wondering if there is anyone out > there that has managed to follow Atkins w/out making modifications > while doing BFL. Atkins can be very hard on the kidneys. You'll need to drink lots of water. Anywhere between 1 and 2 gallons per day. I think most of the women on here drink about 1 gallon per day now. Also your body needs the carbs to carry the protein to the muscle. You also need it for energy and brain function. Your brain is powered by glucose which comes from the carbs. If you've never tried a diet of equal portions of carbs and proteins then you should. Especially if you're hitting the weights heavy. You can always modify if you find out the original plan doesn't work well for you. > > 2. Should I be increasing my weights each workout? It seems like > I'm increasing every 2-3 workouts now. You should increase your weight when your high-point set becomes too easy or you can do all 12 with proper form. Someone on here said if you can do more than 12 with good form on the power sets then increase the pounds. > 3. I'm thinking of switching my ab workouts to after cardio. Is > there any problem with doing abs 3x each week, as long as there is a > day of rest in between each workout? Again, according to Bill, the abs are a muscle group just like anyother and need the days of rest between. Otherwise, you won't see the results that you want. You want be giving them the rest they need between workouts. Abs usually get good isometric workouts anyway with your cardio, especially if your doing something like kickboxing. But even with walking or running you have to keep your abs tight to keep your back healthy, so they're working even if you don't feel them burn. > 4. Those of you who are taking flax seed oil...do you count the > calories/fat grams in your total daily caloric/fat intake, or is it > considered more or a supplement? Sorry, no advice here. Don't take it. but I think I did hear say that she kept all her supplements separate from her diet. > 5. Guest guest
1. I say throw out your Atkins book and strictly follow the BFL plan. I don't belive you can successfully do BFL while only consuming 30 grams of carbs a day. Your body needs carbs for energy, and though I agree with Dr. Atkins in that carbs make you fat, I'm leaning towards it being processed, refined carbs that make people fat. I believe fresh fruits and veggies are Gods gifts to keep us healthy, along with whole grains. The BFL has been proven successful just the way it is, so if it ain't broke, why ya tryin' to fix it???? 2. I only increase my weights when I don't feel like I'm hitting my 10's. I think it goes on an individual by individual bases, and by setting a certain amount you increase at a certain time is only setting yourself up for failure and injury. If you feel you're not hitting your 10's, add some weight. 3. I don't think switching your ab day would do any harm, if that's the muscle group you're focusing on, and you'd like to get in extra days. As long as like you said, you get a day of rest for your muscles to recover. 4. Have no clue about the flax seed as I have yet to convince myself to swallow the stuff. 5. I am concerned about you not taking any free days only because I specifically remember reading in Bill's book that free days are a key to the success of the program. Not only is it good mentally to allow yourself a day to splurge on something, it also reminds the body that you're not starving and it's ok for it to use up that stored fat. Mind you, this is coming from a person who has no experience with bulimia. Good luck to you, Jill
Guest guest
Almond extract or almond butter would be different, but almond oil and sweet almond oil would be the same thing. If you want the therapeutic benefits of hazelnut oil, get hazelnut oil - if you want the tast, get hazelnut flavor - if you want the smell, get hazelnut fragrance. You can use the extract in place of flavor if you want the alcohol, but it's really for baking I think. The syrup would be for adding to drinks and you can get some flavor from it, but flavorings are better. These are made for the kind for specific uses you want, but not common in small town health food stores and you might have to order them. HTH, Traci a few questions... Guest guest
Hi bluerose I'm assuming you bought almond oil at the health food store? If so it is probably Sweet Almond, Prunus dulcis . There is a bitter almond oil also, but it's not something you would want to use as it can be toxic. Sorry I can't think of the latin name off the top of my head. Anyone??? You really need a flavor OIL for the lip balm and possibly the edible massage and a fragrance OIL for the scrub, salts and body butter you want to make. I believe Walmart carries some flavor oils in the candy making section, and some fragrances in the candle and soap section, but I don't know how extensive the selection would be. Otherwise you could do like the rest of us and shop online. There are plenty of places that carry them both, www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com is a good place to start. In your edible massage oil, if you mix oil and glycerin (oil and water) you will need a preservative, or it will go bad very quickly. It's easier to use one or the other. If you chose to use glycerin you will need a water based flavoring (the extract might work in glycerin) instead. Guest guest
Hi Heidi, Thank you for helping me. I did buy the almond oil in a heath food store and was hoping it was right. The woman working there was not to helpful. She just may have been new. I asked her if there was a difference between almond oil and sweet almond oil and she didn't know. I haven't checked out what Walmart has for oils yet as we don't have a super Walmart and seems to be very little in the " craft " department. I did look for M & P and didn't see a thing there to make soap at all. One question to just be sure I understand you.......glycerin is a water base??? bluerose ~~from Maine~~
Guest guest
I wish you luck. Look for a store that sells cake or making supplies. I'm 99% sure you won't find a hazelnut fragrance anywhere but online, from a fragrance supplier. Re: a few questions... > Traci, > Thank you so much for your help. I was wondering if anyone was a member of either one of those, if you could tell me some basic information about them and your opinon of them as well. I love Curves - have been going for just a little over a year. I'm sure you've seen or heard that they have a circuit set up and you go around 2-3 times depending on how many stations they have to equal your 30 minutes. Then they recommend you do something for cardio on the off-days. Price-wise it is dependent on your club and location. Registration fee is $150 usually and from what I have gathered, the owners can run programs to waive that (food drives, etc). I pay $32 and change a month, but that is based on my area and having monthly withdrawal directly from my account (12 month contract too) - best bet would be to call or go talk with them and see what they say. They might be able to spread the regis fee out over several months to help you out. (Don't know) There's also a group called Women_Of_Curves_Everywhere if you are interested in joining that to get a little more info. And also, I was wondering if anyone knew of any good exercise dvd's, exercises to do around the house, etc.. so I could work out at home till I can come up with the money to join a health club. I have 3: "Slim in 6" by Debbie Siebers, the "Biggest Loser" one and "Walk and Jog" by Sansone - some of these gals have others, some of 's... Good luck! Guest guest
Hi, relatively new to the group but I've been reading all posts for the past several months. I had to work up slowly to 50mg of Iodoral due to severe break outs of cankor sores in my mouth every time I tried to increase. During this time, I had seriously cloudy urine and foul smelling body odor for several weeks. Assuming that is typical detox. I just got to 50 mg two weeks ago with no problems now (started back at the beginning of Aug)! Perhaps i am missing something but I would like to know what type of vit C to be using? I have started to experience very loose bowels. Wondering if the combo of magnesium and vit C are causing this? Also, what symptoms present if you are needing the cofacotrs? I do have a little more energy and my temps are sometimes approaching normal but my hair has been coming out by the handfuls since May and continues to do so. I am sort of doing this protocol on my own as my doc knows about it but seems to be nonchalant about it. My nutritionist painted iodine on my arm and it was gone within 10 hours (this was just 2 weeks ago and I had only been at 50 mg for a few days). She is also just learning about the protocol so I feel like I may need a little guidance. I am supposed to be on Armour at 2 grains but this made me insane with panic attacks and racing heart rate. I went down to 1 grain but as I increased Iodoral these symptoms have returned within the past few days. On my own, I have stopped the Armour and waiting for my doc to get back to me on what to do with that. I am thinking I would rather continue working on adrenals and thyroid WITHOUT Armour. I don't think I would have the courage to do this without the copious amounts of support you all give so generously! Thanks so much!

I can't remember what you're talking about and I don't have time to go look up the old email. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't participate (or learn) when there is no context provided for responses.
