You can go years w/o an issue with gluten and then have it pop up. There is an issue with IgA rashes and Iodine. You can google that.

Michele-- It's almost certainly a detox reaction from the iodine, so

following the detox procedues that have recently been posted (look at

Steph's response to the " iodine poisoning " post) is the best thing to do.

Iodine displaces bromines, which cause symptoms, frequently headaches,

sniffles, sore throat, weird taste in mouth, but also very often symptoms

from one's old diseases that may or may not be resolved already. And, acne

and other skin eruptions are also typical.

If there are deeper seated symptoms like skin eruptions, that is a sign

that you are releasing toxins faster than your body can get rid of them via

standard waste routes (urine, bm, sweat), and is an indication to either

lower the iodine dose and go slower, or to do some systemic

gallbladder/liver detoxification protocols, or both.

Michele,

I would lower the iodine because even tho it does sound like gluten is an

issue, the iodine is pushing the detox issue right now. It can't hurt to

lower it to your previous dose and see if there is any difference. There

might not be, because it's already erupted and you're still doing gluten.

btw, many people have had good success treating eczema topically with live

apple cider vinegar or plain live kombucha. Several months ago, a woman on

this list treated her daughter's with the vinegar and it went away. I know

when I have a rash I want to be able to treat it topically while addressing

the causes.

I think eczema is just one of the many autoimmune problems from gluten.

And, sorry to say, there is no such thing as "lower" gluten lifestyle. Every bit of gluten damages the gut. It takes about 2 weeks for gluten to leave the body and then months to heal the gut.

I know how hard it is; it took me about 20 years to finally say no more. I was pretty addicted!

Drugs only suppress and cause the disease to go deeper into the body...the rash is the bodys way to get rid of poison. Using a drug, will block the body and it just puts the poison deeper..like in organs, where eventually, it could lead to cancer or other worse things than eczema.

Good luck!Nonie > Oh dear, in reading o the web, this sounds like it might actually be an issue for me after all! :( I will check it out and talk to my doc who is definitely in favor of lower gluten life style!> > Has anyone heard of and used the drug "Dapson" for treatment of the rash? You are right. It actually takes years to heal the gut in many cases. My children have been off gluten for 1 1/2 years - I have been off it since 2004. It has taken me that long to heal. I have gluten on a few occasions a year but don't feel well afterward so those times are less and less. After reading Dangerous Grains I decided that it was time to remove my children from a glutinous diet. They are a lot healthier.

There are many wonderful gluten free grains. You just need to get used to baking with them. I make some wonderful breads out of Teff and Montina as well as Sorghum.

Here is my gluten free blog http://glutenfreenaturally.blogspot.com/

Hi Steph,

I read the book after you mentioned it last year and was surprised to find I had gone to Dr. Braly about 20 years ago and found I was sensitive to gluten. Too bad, I didn't follow through!

And, yes, it does take close to 1 1/2 -2 years to completely heal, if you don't keep getting infected. About 6 months to heal about 50%.

You can use clay and/or konjac root to help from getting too much damage if you eat gluten.

The day will come when gluten grains are considered a deadly "food" like soy.
