,

My first question is: would that be infra red, or far infra red

(FIR)? I have just been reading about FIR technology and it

creates warmth & sweating without heat. It's all pretty amazing

in that it is counterintuitive. But, far infra red does just

that. And, they have got it to the point that they can make

paper, plastic, almost anything & coat it with some substance

that make this FIR work.

I am looking for sheets of treated paper that you can place under

a mattress so you don't get cold on winter nights. One of the

reasons I am attracted to this technology is I read about a FIR

sauna that doesn't have high heat, but makes you sweat more than

one that does. This would be safer for people with fragile health

conditions.

Does anyone know of the benefits or lack thereof of an Infrared Sauna? I

'm searching for a local colon therapist, one I talked to yesterday says she

also has a new infrared sauna.

Dear ,

An infrared sauna is good for detoxification.

However, there aren't any available that I know of that would let you do

ozone at the same time, if that is what you are aiming at.

While heat is generally indicated for pain relief it can be

contraindicated for deep-seated inflammatory conditions, especially

when there is impaired circulation. It's possible that your reaction

points to deep inflammation, for which some herbs and an

alkalainizing diet could help.

> blew it by detoxing too quickly with the infrared

Infrared saunas can be too quick-acting and can overwhelm some

people.

They can also be toxic themselves – most are all-glued together and

varnished, and several include " wood products " like hardboard and

plywood. Any of these materials can release formaldehyde when

heated. Besides being toxic, formaldehyde is a sensitizer. It can

induce much greater sensitivity to other toxic substances.

If you have any amalgams or are possibly mercury-toxic (all

instances of adverse reactions in fir saunas that I've heard of

involved mercury toxicity), I'd consider backing off the lipoic acid

or trying frequent mini doses. If you've noted increased cognitive

problems since starting to use it, I'd stop. After mostly recovering

my short term memory after severe mold exposure, I quickly lost it

again by taking a few 100 mgs of ALA before sauna.

Hope this helps

Just wanting to add that when I saw Cheney in 95 he told me not to

get overheated, such as in a sauna, because it would cause cytokine

production.

Yes, it is articularly recommended to avoid hot tubs for that reason. BUT

honestly even when I had flu like symptoms which were most like from cytokines,

I always felt better after the hot tub. I would say people should try for

themselves and find out.

I have gotten whacked more than once from being in the sun or taking a

hot bath, so I find Cheney's recommendation useful.

me, too. Some years the summer heat has been intolerable, too.

That's why I never really wanted to get involved in using a sauna on a regular

basis. I do however like hot tubs and saunas, so I do them ocassionally. Have

to go to bed afterward, but no long term bad effect.

Interestingly, the infrared lamp (heater) I have, when used on a localized area

makes me feel the same kind of all-over sweet warm relaxation that laying out in

the sun used to provide- and no side-effects at all. At least it did on my back.

I don't guess using it on my knee had that effect.

I have FIR heaters I've used for a few years off and on as a sauna. In

the past year or so after even a brief session I have huge bags under

my eyes the next day. I feel this can't be a good thing so I don't use

the heaters often. They sure help body pain, though.

My husband has a FIR heater that is used by acupuncturists etc, and

that is gret for localized pain, but not for the all over aches.

I wonder if this goes back to different phases of the illness. For a long time

I felt lousy in the sun, then it switched and I felt better in the sun. Or it

could be just a side effect of something that goes out of whack and isn't

consistent among us.

The old steam saunas get hotter, & are not good for some classes of people -- people with heart disease, for example. (I forget all the contraindications.)It is said that the far infrared saunas mobilize more toxins, & the dry air enables you to sweat the toxins out better. They are also safe for people who should not use a steam sauna.AnneOn Oct 27, 2010, at 2:31 PM, H wrote: Can someone explain to me the difference between infrared sauna and the kind of sauna I'd find in a health club? In addition to the steam and heat issues, a way of thinking about it is

infrared saunas are like old school saunas on steroids.

It's just an improvement in technology that is very smart. Hope to own one

some day.
