They are not. Iodine doesn't have "side effects". Symptoms you may experience are the symptoms caused by bromide detoxification. The iodine causes the body to get rid of bromides, which are poison to the body, and the release of the bromides causes the symptoms. It's actually a good sign because it means you're getting rid of toxins. Also, those detox symptoms usually are transient if your detox pathways are functioning well. Acne is a sign that one's detox pathways are not functioning that well and the bromide is coming out through the skin instead of the urine. Weight gain is an even further sign that detox pathways are not working well, because there the body is storing the released bromides as fat since they are continuing to circulate and not be removed via urine. If you're painting it on your skin, and feeling good, there is no reason not to also take it internally so you can actually benefit from the higher doses that will create good health.--,moderator of Iodine list> > I still seem to get the best results when I apply it topically to my > stomach. Guest guest
If iodine raises TSH at first, which would cause hypo symptoms, is that right? how long after starting it does it take usually for the thyroid TSH levels to normalize? From: Baker <vbaker@...>Subject: Re: Re: iodine causing thyroid enlargement/hashisiodine Received: Saturday, February 12, 2011, 3:51 AM Another way of looking at this is, what determined why your Armour has been increased? Was it the TSH reading? It's a known fact that iodine will raise TSH at first but that it's not a sign of illness. If the increase was solely based on TSH reading, it's an erroneous response to the reading.-->Are you aware that Forest Pharmaceuticals changed the formula of Armour >and this has caused many to have to increase their dosages. Guest guest
Hi Corry, Your symptoms sound as though you could very well be hypo. What blood tests did they take? Did they test your FreeT3 and FreeT4? Those are the most accurate tests for thyroid function. TSH is worthless for thyroid levels. In the 'olden days' doctors would treat thyroid by symptoms, not blood tests as how you feel is the best indication most times of thyroid function. Also, the thyroid is not the only thing that needs iodine. Iodine is utilized throughout our whole body for good health. As well as for helping remove toxic halides from our systems. Kelp is not a good source for iodine as the oceans are polluted and kelp can contain heavy metals such as arsenic. Have you read the new members doc you were sent when you joined this group? It contains much information that will help educate you. Also important if you decide to take Lugols or Iodoral is to take daily the companion nutrients( all can be found in our files) which includ unrefined Celtic Sea Salt. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, Yes I did get the free T4 and free T3 test done. The T3 was 5.4 pmol/L and the T4 was kind of high 17.9. So because of my symtoms and this one high number, it looked to me that I was once hyper and now I have a burnt out thyroid. I was told these were both in the normal range. He wouldn't take my temperature even though I told him I was freezing cold all the time. I'm so cold I have boiling hot baths and almost burn my skin sometimes they are so hot! Iodine warms me up and makes me feel better. The kelp I take is from a GMP brand and is suppose to be tested for heavy metals etc. It gives me an appetite. And yes I do take the celtic salt and magnesium, selenium, vit C. Guest guest
Hi Corry, it raises the TSH level but does not cause hypo symptoms. Remember , TSH is not a good indicator of thyroid function. It takes a few months for TSH levels to normalize. Guest guest
Corry, If you feel so much better applying iodine externally, why do you take it orally in the form of Lugol's or Iodoral. I think you would be well on you way to feeling great if you do that! Especially since you are taking the companion nutrients.
