Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, 15 mg is such a small amount of NTH, are you going to slowly work your way up to a larger dose? Yes, you can take Iodoral at the same time as your thyroid. I take my Naturethroid sublingually as soon as I get up, and eat a bit later and take my Iodoral with my breakfast along with my other supplements. Are you taking the companion nutrients and unrefined Celtic Sea Salt too? very important. Kathleen Congratulations! and Question... First of all I want to congratulate you on your wonderful accomplishment. It's funny when you look back on your life and see where you are how you can appreciate the hardships along the way and see that there is a reason for everything and God really does have a plan! Thank you for all you've done on this board and your continued help to us throid sufferers! My question is I've just been prescribed Armour, just 15mg, but my doc told me to get off the iodine since "you don't need it now you have thyroid meds." Obviously I'm not going to do that being that I also have fibrocystic breasts and a very fibrous uterus, but my question is she told me to take the Armour first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, which I will do. Do I have to wait to take the Iodoral or can they be taken at the same time or does it really matter??Thanks to anyone who can give me some guidance! Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, NatureThroid can be taken sublingually? I had heard of a few taking the old armour that way but not NT. I am on 1 gr, does the sublingual dose work better than swallowing the tablet? /MI > > Hi Suzanne, > 15 mg is such a small amount of NTH, are you going to slowly work your way up to a larger dose? Guest guest
Hi , Yes, it works great sublingually. To me that is the best way for me to take it as I just wait about a half hour until I eat. I don’t take calcium or iron, but for those that do, this is the way to take thyroid as then there is no waiting four hours in between the calcium and or iron as there is when thyroid is swallowed. Guest guest
Hi Ariel, when you take thyroid sublingually there is no need to wait to take calcium and or iron because the thyroid does not go through the digestive system as it is absorbed under the tongue. Hence, no need to wait to take supplements. Kathleen Congratulations! and Question...> > > > First of all I want to congratulate you on your wonderful accomplishment. Guest guest
Thanks Kathleen! I am going to try this tomorrow. I was told that after armour was re-formulated it didn't work sublingually anymore. I'm not on Armour but just assumed NT would be the same. I actually need another 1/4 grain to get my thyroid numbers more optimized. I'm wondering if it is absorbed better sublingually if this may be all I need to do! That would be nice. /MI > > > > Hi Suzanne, > > 15 mg is such a small amount of NTH, are you going to slowly work your way up to a larger dose? Guest guest
whoa! Maybe I'm misunderstanding what's been said, but NTH should be taken alone on an empty stomach. Iodine should be taken later, with the meal. Don't take iodine at the same time you take NTH. -- >Hi Suzanne, > 15 mg is such a small amount of NTH, are you going to slowly work your > way up to a larger dose? Guest guest
Hi , Actually there are different schools of thought on how to take NTH. Janie Bowthorpe on her group and book Stop The Thyroid Madness says "On the positive side, swallowing Armour thyroid with food slows the release of the thyroid hormones to your body, distributing the direct T3 more evenly throughout the day. Unlike thyroxine, you do not have to swallow dessicated thyroid on an empty stomach."I personally like to take it sublingually (and have done it that way for over 25 years successfully). And then I wait about a half hour to eat, just because I like the idea of it going directly into my system as I am thyroidless. I have never read anywhere that you cannot take thyroid and iodine at the same time however, so please let me know about this, as I do want to have the correct information. Thank you. Guest guest
I have taken my iodine with thyroid when I forgot to take my thyroid. Guest guest
Consistency would be one of the keys also. If one is taking thyroid meds with food, it should always be taken that way, not with food sometimes and other times on an empty stomach.LinnOn Feb 12, 2011, at 1:41 PM, Kathleen Blake wrote: Hi , Actually there are different schools of thought on how to take NTH. Guest guest
Wow, thanks so much for all this excellent education. So I think what I'll do is take the Armour sublingually first thing when I wake up, I did that this morning when I woke up w/o a problem. Then after breakfast which is usually an hour later I'll take my Iodoral. Does that sound about right? Suzanne > > > > > Hi , > Actually there are different schools of thought on how to take NTH. Guest guest
I called 's Pharmacy to ask them specifically about whether I could take iodine at the same time as the Nature-Throid. They were adamant that nothing should be taken with it and that I should wait 60 minutes to eat anything. I don't know if I could handle the taste of the NTH to do it sublingual, but I commend you for doing so. Not taking iodine when one is swallowing it is nothing new-- it's just more on the theme of nothing else in the stomach but NTH. Although I experiment with a lot of things, I've never really considered experimenting with the thyroid hormone instructions (although I do put 1/4 tsp or more of unrefined salt in my water that I take it with). I feel like it works for me fine and I don't want to do something like lose parts of it in the food digestion process. Usually pills that are directed to take on an empty stomach are substances that aren't meant to be taken through the stomach. By not having any food in the stomach, digestive acids and enzymes aren't activated. At least, that's what they say. To me it makes sense to let it soak in before eating. I do not experience the thyroid hormones as giving me a " upper " with a crash afterward, so the argument that taking it with food slows down absorption and that's a good thing doesn't really persuade me. I think anyone who starts taking it WITH food had better get themselves tested afterwards to make sure they are still getting enough hormone. -- At 01:41 PM 2/12/2011, you wrote: >Hi , > Actually there are different schools of thought on how to take NTH. > Janie Bowthorpe on her group and book Stop The Thyroid Madness says " On > the positive side, swallowing Armour thyroid with food slows the release > of the thyroid hormones to your body, distributing the direct T3 more > evenly throughout the day. (They don’t use the liver any longer on the therapy, but did when I was doing it full force many years ago.) Thanks for calling 's and that information.
