My children were dx'd by Dr. Brownstein with hypoT. We started them on 6.25 mgs - they were 4 & 7 yrs at the time. When they were 6 & 8 we increased them to 12.5 mgs. When my son was 9 we did an iodine loading test with bromide levels and he came back toxic (45 mg / L - toxic is over 10) so we increased him to 25 mgs and he has been there since. My daughter who is 8 is still on 12.5 and my son who is 11 is on 25 mgs. They only take it Mon - Fri and we take the weekend off. We also give them 100 mcg Selenium M-W-F. They take Biotics B12-2000 on Mondays. I keep their iron levels up with Floradix Iron + Herb. They take a children's multi as well.

Hope that helps!

The main reason I removed them was because I had had 3 RAI treatments for cancer that failed and they wanted to do external beam radiation because my cancer markers were up. Root canal teeth are dead and you risk underlying bacteria that hit the immune system. When they removed the tooth it had black sludge under the tooth and necrosis of the jaw.

You can read about the dangers of root canals here http://curezone.com/dental/root_canal.asp

The OATS test is an Organic Acid Test. It checks for issues in the KREBS cycle. When we tested my son he had several areas that were "stuck" and it effected his ability to detox. For this particular test I could add on environmental toxins and we found out he was very toxic in 3 different toxins. It helped us to know what vitamins he needed to help his system.

This explains it http://drweyrich.weyrich.com/labs/oat.html Unfortunately where I got my test they no longer have it available. I have a professional account and can order my own tests. I had an ND friend of mine help me with it. I am not sure where you can order one now. Maybe your ND can get one for you.

I just read recently that growth hormone deficiency and celiac disease often go

together, so maybe have that checked as well.

Lori, if I may comment, the toxic metal isn't the only reason to remove a root

canal tooth. It can be considered as a dead organ in the body, and over time the

network of tiny canals within the tooth become riddled with candida albicans

(yeast). It's a ongoing focus for infection that tires the immune system. To

read more, google " root canal " " candida albicans " . Good luck to you and your

children!

Best,

.

A Celiac diagnosis for a child is helpful for many reasons. Other family members, friends, school personnel, etc. may not be helpful and can be outright detrimental by giving or allowing a child glutenous foods because they think that a little bit won't hurt. A firm diagnosis can prevent that. A diagnosis can also be helpful later in life when the child is responsible for their own food and may not necessarily follow the diet unless they know for sure it is required. With the entire family off gluten, a diagnosis can provide the proof needed for a medical deduction for tax purposes. Celiac can be related to many other diseases, it's important to know positively. Gluten antibodies could definitely cause the thyroid issues (Hashi's) and could take a while to eliminate. For a Celiac it's important to occasionally test (other testing, not DNA) along the way also to make sure that gluten is not being unknowingly consumed. DNA testing:https://www.enterolab.com/http://www.kimballgenetics.com/https://myceliacid.com/LinnOn Feb 9, 2011, at 8:25 PM, Baker wrote:

It does - thank you! I spoke to the naturopath earlier this week about and also made an appointment for her at the pediatric endocronologist. I want to be sure she is tested properly and include the other items you suggested. When I get the results back, can I e-mail you? It won't be for a little while. Her appointment is set up for March.

I am having her take Raw thyroid by Natural Sources right now with 50 mcg selenium and a very tiny bit of L Tyrosine M-F along with a multiple vitamin and Vitamin D. Let me know if that is suitable for her to be taking.

Thank you Steph!

I did hear that root canals were not good for us to have and have considered over the last few years to have mine removed. I just might do that. I am going to read the information as well on the link.

I will check into the OATS test. It sounds like it would be very beneficial for both ael and . I am going to check with the ND about it.

Thank you again Steph. :-)

Thank you ! It was so helpful for me to read this. :-)

I spoke with a naturopath this week and I am also taking her to see a pediatric endocronologist. I am already having her take some supplements to help her and getting a very good raw vitamin for her. She also takes probiotics and Vitamin D.

I definitely will have a saliva test done on her as well as the blood tests - I think that's a great idea. :-) The naturopath also mentioned the possiblity of her possibly being anemic - something I must check into.

I wonder if we are both having trouble with our cortisol levels? We have the same trouble as far as sleep - trouble falling to sleep at night and tired in the morning. Plus, I do notice she has some blood sugar problems and worry about that as well - especially wtih my son being a Type 1 diabetic. I'm going to check everything out.

Thank you again ! I might have more questions as time goes along.

-----Original Message-----From: Teel [mailto:caalde@...] Sent: Thursday, February 10, 2011 12:12 AMiodine Subject: Re: My little girl's TSH results

Lori,I have a 14 y/o daughter who has many of these issues with low iodine, adrenal fatigue (and a reverse Cortisol curve meaning she is really awake late at night), gluten free since July, Diary free for several years.... But what has most driven the health questions that I have are Chronic daily headaches that she has. She was really low on Vit. D and that is so essential for many body processes! Her doctor runs a full blood panel, urine, and we did the adrenal saliva test, so he starts looking at the whole body and what is high/low. Many of these issues we started working on when she was around 8 or so... but have not really budged the headaches, and only found the gluten issues this summer. Her Doctor is a chiropractor with a degree in nutrition and biochemistry. He believes in slow, gentle healing as it involves detoxing the system and you do not want to overwhelm the body. She takes the 12.5 mg Iodoral- Iodine/iodide mixture daily, good muli-Vit, Omega's, probiotics, 5,000 Vit. D, immune boosters. and I try to give her a higher protein than carbs diet which also helps healing and growing, etc. With gluten issues, you will always have a healing process of the gut. One of the signs she needed the Thyroid help of iodine is that she was always cold- huddled up in a blanket, and seemed to be getting really pale, almost bluish tone of her skin. So those are big red flags for her thyroid. The need for Adrenal support comes from the saliva test, and it also showed the immune anti-bodies to gliadins, or gluten. So her gut had little anti-bodies but what was there was HIGH on the gliandin anti-body. And her cortisol is low in the morning so she can't wake up and high at night so she can't sleep! plus adrenal fatigue.... and it messes up her blood sugars.... and I think it must precipitate a lot of the headache issues. On my own I am adding extra support for her adrenals and to help her daily cortisol rhythm to normalize her sleep cycle. I added extra magnesium, vit. C, liver detoxification support, and an adrenal gland complex in morning and noon to stimulate adrenals, plus iron which is needed for something with the thyroid. I guess her doctor does not want to overdo the extra help as she is still growing and you wan the stimulus to be on the glands working properly. But I think the extra Vitamins and minerals would just build up the bodies' levels and promote the healthy working of the thyroid and the adrenals.I hope that your daughter's issues are mostly due to the food intolerances, and that with time and good healthy food she will not have to deal with this for years!!! I wish we would have found out more sooner...On 2/9/2011 8:04 PM, Lori@... wrote:

I might have to look into doing the same thing. I've thought about removing a root canal tooth becuase of the metal in there as well. Can you tell me why you chose to remove it? I know I also experience fatigue. It's very difficult getting up in the morning.

What is the OATS test? I'm going to look at your web site also to see how your son progressed. That's wonderful! I know removing gluten did help her somewhat with growth, but she is still quite small for her age and already wrote my naturopath about her and will be talking to her on the phone tomorrow.

I took 50 mgs Iodoral in the beginning of my journey. I was fighting cancer and had severe adrenal fatigue. We worked for 6 mos just to get me stable. Then I went to a holistic dentist and removed 11 amalgams and a root canal tooth over a 4 week period. I felt a lot better after removing them. Before I had extreme fatigue and brain fog. I couldn't make a decision on anything. Since I was poisoned so were my children. It's a complex issue and not something that you can give a flat response for. We did an OATS test for my son because he was the one with the most issues. He did not grow for 2 years (finally had him dx'd at 7 yrs) and when we got him on Armour he started to grow - a lot. We took him off gluten and then dairy and he became even less ADD. You can see his test changes on my website at www.naturalthyroidchoices.com

You really need a holistic doc to help you with your daughter.

Your short comment brought tears to my eyes. Why? Because I remember how I felt with my own children. I *knew* there was something wrong with them and my pediatrician blew me off telling me that children do not have thyroid problems. He just wanted those well child visits where he could inject them with vaccines and shove me out the door. :( They were 4 & 7 when they were dx hypothyroid by Dr. Brownstein. They were low in B12 and Ferritin. Both are gluten intolerant. My son was poisoned by 4 different environmental toxins. Yet the school just wanted me to drug him for ADD. He was hypo, with food allergies and very toxic. The ND friend that helped me run the OATS test w/ environmental levels told me that my son's levels were the highest he had seen - let alone being a child. I felt better knowing what we needed to do. Yes it was hard but my instincts as a mom were correct. I still worry about them - probably more now that I know more.

I know a little about raw thyroid. The daughter of a friend began exhibiting

hypoT symptoms after a head injury. Mum, unable to pay for any tests or meds,

managed to get some pork thyroid from a farmer (talk about RAW!).

I am not exactly sure how it was administered but the daughter is doing fine on

it.

I agree and certainly can relate to your experience. For years, the pediatrician could not tell me why ael had such stomach aches and nose bleeds. They told me some children are just like that. I worried so much. My one daughter had stomach pain at night (which I believe was most likely from having problems with gluten) and was concerned about her and also for . With , I insisted they run a thyroid test on her. I just knew something was not right with her growth and her hair not growing and being so thin.

When ael was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and in the hospital for three days hooked up to machines and so thin, I was so upset. It was so difficult/so sad for me seeing him there. For the first few months, I lied awake and I would cry not understanding why this happened. Then, I prayed that God would show me what to do for him. That's when I began doing research and stayed up until the morning hours. I took him off of gluten. I didn't want him to end up having Celiac disease (most children with Type 1 end up having that later on if not at the time of diagnosis). His tummy aches all went away. Then, I took him off of dairy (not long after removing the gluten) after doing more research and finally took him off of all soy. I didn't want him to have to be on insulin for the remainder of his life and thank God, he is now off of it entirely. I knew there had to be something I could do for him and I know God showed me.

Mom's I believe are given the gift to know when something is not right with their children. We know them best. I just hope that I can help them the best possible way I can and I will do everything I can for them. I want them to lead healthy lives and someday when they have families/children of their own, I just pray they are healthy and won't have to go through the things that we have.

It brought tears to my eyes because I didn't get alarmed till too late! Everybody in my family has mild neurological issues, so I wasn't alarmed when my son first started having minor problems. I instinctively felt that vaccines weren't helping him, & stopped taking him for well check-ups when we were urged to homeschool him. But I allowed him to receive a hepB vaccine years later, when he was in for a minor health issue, & that was (apparently) the last straw for his over-burdened immune system, & he regressed into CLEAR Asperger's.In my defense, & in defense of other moms, it is hard to stand firm when those docs are hammering at you about how silly you are being, & about how much more they know than you... Everybody knows that vaccines are safe & affective. (Pl-pl-pl-pl! How do you spell a raspberry?)Don't you wish you could go back in a time machine, & tell your younger self the things you have learned the hard way in the intervening years? (This bozo is going to be a faithless lover to you & every other woman unfortunate enough to care about him. If you take this job, you will sob in the car every morning on the way to work until you destroy your career by quitting. If she goes for pizza on this day, she will be in a fatal car accident. If you let these clowns inject your child with poison, they will rob him of the life he should have had, & then they will mock you when you try to say so...)If you could really change those moments, I suppose, it would be scary -- because they would change EVERYTHING. (I wouldn't have my wonderful husband if my life hadn't fallen as it did...) But we were all so innocent about how much hung in the balance at those moments, & everybody kept negating our personal reality...Yes, the more you know, the more worried you get -- because there is so much more to fear than you ever dreamed!AnneOn Feb 12, 2011, at 4:47 AM, ladybugsandbees wrote: Your short comment brought tears to my eyes. I can totally related. You are a great mom for pushing forward and finding answers. Sometimes it is so hard but you are seeing the rewards. :)

you are so welcome!

I am reading the book "Adrenal Fatigue in the 21st Century." It has

some good info on Adrenal fatigue, and next I am going to get the

book on Iodine to study as well. the more I read, the more

interconnectedness I see in things.

For instance, if my daughter is not getting enough iron, it will

affect her adrenals which affects how the body uses the thyroine

molecules... so now we are both on Iron from Solgar as I have

realized that I have been adrenal fatigued off and on for some years

now.

Thank you ! It was so

helpful for me to read this. :-)

I spoke with a naturopath this

week and I am also taking her to see a pediatric

endocronologist. I am already having her take some

supplements to help her and getting a very good raw

vitamin for her. She also takes probiotics and

Vitamin D.

I definitely will have a saliva

test done on her as well as the blood tests - I think

that's a great idea. :-) The naturopath also mentioned

the possiblity of her possibly being anemic -

something I must check into.

I wonder if we are both having

trouble with our cortisol levels? We have the same

trouble as far as sleep - trouble falling to sleep at

night and tired in the morning. Plus, I do notice she

has some blood sugar problems and worry about that as

well - especially wtih my son being a Type 1

diabetic. I'm going to check everything out.

Thank you again ! I might

have more questions as time goes along.

My

little girl's

TSH results

I had my

one little

girl tested

again. She is

gluten and soy

free for over

a year now.

Her TSH came

back as 4.93.

Last year it

was 5.54.

Also, they

told me her

platelets came

back at 480

which I don't

know much

about it, but

it is high

they told me.

She is 6. Her

birthday is in

October and

she is quite

tiny. That is

what

concerned me

and the reason

I had her

tested.

Please provide

suggestions as

to what I

should do. I

hate for her

to go on

thyroid

medication.

Thank you.
