Pam,

I'm curious - under the foods to strictly avoid there is garbanzo beans. I get

all the other foods listed there but why those beans (and the black eyed peas)?

I am a vegetarian and live on hummus. What's the reason to avoid them??

Thanks,

Janette

How are you dealing with insulin resistance, ? I ask because this is a huge problem with me. -AngieOn Aug 30, 2010, at 6:58 PM, ladybugsandbees wrote: It doesn't help me lose weight. I am taking two products that were made by two different doctors. Dr. Brownstein's Gluc-Control and my ND's product - can't remember the name. Plus I am taking EPA oils. I was put on Metagenics Ultra Meal 360 but it is soy based and my joints hurt so bad after 2 days. Diet is supposed to be part of it but I am struggling with that right now. I am aslo supposed to be exercising - again a problem with my current schedule. I am supposed to retest in a month. We'll see....

i'm curious - where do you get your methyl b 12, chlorella, coriander and yellow

dock? I would love some help for the weight gain that started right after my

iodine supplementation too! I know that where you buy supplements makes a

difference, though, so I would like to know what brands/where you get those -

thanks!!

Like I said, I'm not sure which of those four is really helping with the weight

issue, but I definitely got some relief from it. I also haven't been using

iodine for about 2 months. I'm not sure what would happen if I were to start

back up.

I got the supplements from swansonvitamins.com. The prices were very reasonable,

and if you do some googling you might find some promo/coupon codes...I did when

I ordered last month.

Nature's Way Yellow Dock

Swanson Premium Brand Full Spectrum Coriander

Swanson GreenFoods Broken Cell Wall Chlorella

Swanson Ultra Methylcobalamin (methyl B12)--It might still be on sale for buy

one get one free.

Sherry-- I think a lot of people felt that the issue was that your detoxing

pathways weren't functioning, and those supplements have helped with

that. So I think you would have better luck this time. Glad to hear

things are changing for you.

All those supplements you listed enhance detoxification. When your body gets overloaded with more toxins than it can handle it stores them in fat. I suspect that's what happened to you so if you can keep your liver and other detox pathways (kidney, lymph system) moving you should do OK.

Weight Gain/Detox Issues with Iodine

So I gained weight almost immediately when I started iodine last January. I stopped the iodine a few months ago, and the weight never came off (despite dieting techniques that has always worked for me in the past) UNTIL I started taking some chlorella, dandelion, yellow dock and methyl B12, which I started all at the same time, so I don't know which may have contributed to getting rid of the weight. Some of the weight came off (and very quickly) with these supplements.I would like to start iodine again, but I'm terrified of the prospect of gaining the weight back. In my current emotional (and single state), I just can't tolerate being fat. Does anyone have any idea what might happen (weight wise) if I restart the iodine, but this time WITH the supplements I mentioned above, which helped get rid of the weight gain when I took them AFTER stopping iodine? Thanks for any input,Sherry

I actually forgot to mention that I'm taking coriander too. Is there anything

else that you would suggest adding to keep my detox pathways going?

I'm finding dozens of ways of using Tamarind Paste in my recipes, and it's an

excellent detoxifier. For example, it adds a nice, tangy note to salad dressings

and soups. Or mix with apple sauce, a squeeze of lemon juice and a touch of

stevia for an excellent sweet/tangy sauce. This is basically the brown

sauce/chutney always provided at Indian restaurants and goes well on quite a

number of foods. I add Tamarind Paste to meat loafs and burgers...many

opportunities to use this tart and healthful ingredient.

as I recall you didn't want to take more than 12.5mg Iodoral and you

also didn't have the companion nutrients, so those issues might be

obstacles to your success with iodine.

it might take some time and patience and using iodine effectively,

but it will only help your metabolism.

No, Gracia...I did take ALL of the companion supplements for the entire

time...And for most of the time I was taking it, I took about 30 mg of Lugol's

daily.

I have been told several times that there is nothing like the real, serious liver cleanse. I have been told it enough times that I really think I should try it, but I just can't tolerate drinking the oil... If you are a braver woman than I, I imagine it would do you a world of good. Steph posted one a while back, & you should be able to find it in the archives, & there are a few similar ones if you Google (in case they have ingredients you find a bit more palatable.)AnneOn Oct 6, 2010, at 5:12 PM, lookonthebriteside wrote: So I gained weight almost immediately when I started iodine last January. Please do the apple juice or whatever to soften the stones before you do this. This doesn't work out well for everyone. PamOn Wed, Oct 6, 2010 at 8:54 PM, Anne Seals <anneseals@...> wrote:

I am currently taking 150 mg Iodoral, 5 days a week with two days off. I have LOST over 35 lb since mid June. I don't know how much because I don't weigh unless I have to and the last time I had to was a month ago so I could do my heavy metals test. They needed to know my weight so they could prescribe the correct amount of DMSA.

For me, the ticket is (as with everyone), to keep your insulin levels low. Insulin triggers your body to either store fat (if insulin is high) or release fat (if insulin levels are maintained at a nice steady level).

Also, I had to treat candida before seeing any real progress. I did that with diet (next to no carbs for 3 months), and supplements (GSE, Candex, Yeast Defense, and a couple of others I'd have to look up). I feel a thousand percent better and I know I'm continuing to lose weight because I can feel it in the way I move and how my clothing fits. Which is to say, it doesn't any more and I've had to go down another size. Yea!

Hope this helps. Tressler Healthy Transitions Life Coaching 541-791-1464 Help raise funds for Legacy Land Conservancy by searching the internet or shoping online with GoodSearch (www.goodsearch.com).

I don't know the recipe of Steph's liver flush, but I did Hulda 's last

weekend, and it involved mixing equal parts of fresh grapefruit juice with the

olive oil which made it much more palatable.

I didn't pass any stones (I read about the apple juice part afterwards

unfortunately), but my skin has cleared up and I have more energy, so I know it

did some good.

I did a series of colonic irrigations quite a few years back.   I had small amount of eczema on my hands at the time because I hadn't worked out what the allergy was (gluten it turned out to be) - by the time I had finished the colonic irrigation - about 30 minutes - the eczema would be gone!   It would come back again ( I guess because I kept eating gluten) but it was amazing how quickly the toxins must have cleared out of my body.

I don't know the recipe of Steph's liver flush, but I did Hulda 's last weekend, and it involved mixing equal parts of fresh grapefruit juice with the olive oil which made it much more palatable.

I didn't pass any stones (I read about the apple juice part afterwards unfortunately), but my skin has cleared up and I have more energy, so I know it did some good.

Sorry I'm answering this late...my hubby just came home from the hospital and

I'm catching up.

Pam,

I'm glad you mentioned that liver cleanses aren't for everyone. I too have

gained weight since beginning Iodoral. And I too have liver issues.

In 2007 they found what was actually termed " sludge " in my liver when they went

in with a scope to retrieve a stuck liver stone (I don't have a gallbladder). I

spent two days on a gurney in the ER on a gurney in the hall being given

Dilaudid which didn't even begin to touch the pain I was having to the amazement

of everyone. They finally believed me and went in with the scope and pulled

what I knew to be the second stone...had already passed one by myself...out.

I know my liver is congested, but after having pain like that, my gut tells me

that traditional liver cleanses are too much for me to handle.

My acupuncturist/ND has always said that I'm sensitive and fragile and he's

afraid the oil/citrus liver cleanse would be too harsh on my system. I'm

going to do the Dr Hyman cleansing diet and then see where I'm at.
