Guest guest Posted April 16, 2001 Report Share Posted April 16, 2001 FORD FOUNDATION PROGRAM OFFICER SEXUALITY AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH NEW DELHI, INDIA SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The program officer will be responsible for developing, monitoring and evaluating program activities in the field of sexuality and reproductive health in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The program will focus on improving the formulation and implementation of public policy concerning women's sexual and reproductive health based on principles of gender equity and women's empowerment. While Sexuality and Reproductive Health is a long established and mature line of work in the New Delhi Office, the new program officer will have the opportunity to review the scope and focus of the program in the light of recent developments in the field. Currently the program emphasizes three areas: 1) research and advocacy for sexual and reproductive freedom; 2) sexuality and HIV/AIDS; and 3) violence against women as a health and human rights issue. Program strategies include institutional capacity building, strengthening networks, advocacy, research and community based organizing. The program officer will review existing lines of work and identify further Programmatic activities based on an assessment of needs and emerging opportunities. She/he will be responsible for shaping and implementing a grant making strategy to build the capacity of organizations working to secure the sexual and reproductive well being of all, especially women. The program officer is responsible for soliciting, reviewing and responding to grant proposals and making recommendations for Foundation funding. The New Delhi Office attaches considerable importance to collaborative work and is experimenting with integrated grantmaking strategies. The program officer will be encouraged to continue the existing collaboration with the human rights and development finance fields, and explore other avenues for collaboration. In addition to working with Foundation staff in India, the program officer will contribute towards building the global field of sexuality and reproductive health through collaboration with Ford Foundation and participation in the Foundation's Reproductive Health Affinity Group. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires significant experience in the field of sexuality and reproductive health, familiarity with relevant programs and institutions in India and more broadly in South Asia. Advanced training in the social sciences, gender studies or public health and demonstrated analytical and organizational skills are essential. Oral and written communication, as well as excellent facilitation skills are necessary. Fluency in an Indian language is highly preferred, as is the ability to work closely with colleagues and grantees of diverse backgrounds and perspectives..
