Guest guest Posted September 28, 2001 Report Share Posted September 28, 2001 Stigma and Discrimination workshops at the 6th ICAAP (Three workshops) This is an email for delegates who are attending the 6th ICAAP Recently, the Deakin University has been awarded a Ford Foundation grant for a project on " UNDERSTANDING THE PUBLIC HEALTH RESPONSE TO AIDS RELATED STIGMA AND DISCRIMINATION IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION. This project proposes to review the progress achieved by six Asian countries, India, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and China with respect to the discrimination and stigmatization of people who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. This project has a particular interest in reviewing the progress of the states' effort to ensuring humane care and support for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. We would like to invite your participation in the AIDS related Stigma and discrimination workshop to be held at the 6th ICAAP. Name of the workshop(s): Implementing a situational analysis of HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination in the Asia Pacific region. Presented by: Deakin University, School of Health Sciences with the Ford Foundation support Objectives: This workshop aims to establish a regional project on ` " Understanding AIDS related stigma and discrimination in Asia Pacific region. " a) To develop a right-based approach to understand public health response to AIDS related stigma and discrimination To develop appropriate methods and tools for situational analysis of HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination in the Asia Pacific c) To establish a network to facilitate greater understanding and to developing an appropriate public health response to AIDS related stigma and discrimination in Asia Pacific region. Corryong Room 2 of the Convention Centre. Presentation of country case studies. Monday: 8th October. 1.30-3.30 Suite 2, Exhibition Centre Protocols for stigma and discrimination research in HIV/AIDS. Tuesday: 9th October. 1.30-3.30 Suite 2, Exhibition Centre Planning for an in country situational assessment. Participants of this workshop are invited from India, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, and China. Though, this workshop is essentially meant for the partners of this project, other interested persons also are welcome to attend the workshop.
