Guest guest
Dear Lizzie My thyroid medication is the same as yours. I take 20mcg T3 plus 100mcg thyroxine daily (sometimes up this to 125mcg). I have been on this regime for about 7 months now. For the first few months I felt really well. Now I have days when I seem to tire easily and hypo symptoms return, acid indigestion, constipation, swollen ankles, etc. When this happens I increase the thyroxine by 25mcg for a few days and this seems to work because the hypo symptoms subside. Sometimes I think that the medical profession are shooting in the dark when it comes to treating hypothyroidism and that more research needs to be done into treatment of this illness. I am thinking of trying Armour and although some members seem to do very well on this treatment, I am a bit apprehensive if Armour will work for me. My consultant has already thrown his hands up in horror when another patient asked him for this medicine, though I think he did try to get it for her in the end. I just want you to know that I know how you feel because all the symptoms you describe I can identify with even though I am retired and do not work. The member who suggested you limit the carbohydrate is, in my opinion, absolutely correct. I do find that by cutting down on the carbos and increasing the protein does help with my energy levels. Maybe a chunk of cheese with an apple or piece of chicken with tomatoes might help rather than a banana. Luv .
