Guest guest
Hey Jeanine! Well, the show was kinda bad. Lets start from last nite after my last post. The power had come back on and sometime during the nite we lost it again. I woke up during the nite and it was pitch black again. I had no idea if I had slept in or if it was too early. I came downstairs again looking for my flashlight, put my watch on. It was only 3 am. So I went back to bed withmy watch on and flashlight in my arms. Fortumatly we had put a battery in my alarm clock and it went off at the correct time sooooo still no power, I took a shower via flashlight, makeup on via flashlight, coulnt do a thing with my hair... lol. Anyways so we all got up got ready to go ect... looked outside and the one tree had pretty much finished loosing its branches. Like only two or three left. Got the pickup loaded and set off to the show. Still no power in Ontario nor webster. I called to see if it was still happening but the service was not available. Soo we get to the show about 8ish and no power their either. We go in to see whats what and a lot of people had set up the day before. Hubby said lets go get some breakfast and if no power by nine maybe we should not do it... So we went and had breakfast came back about 9:15 and they are sitll positive that the power will come on ect... I dont kn ow what to do so I just start setting up. They started bringing in some generators and bought some hallogen lights and cords and set up so we had some light but it was like dimmish but enough so people could walk around. So, fine.. there were still a lot of poeple comming to the show so I guess good thing we stayed. Maybe about noonish (not sure the time) the power came back on. It was just a very very off time. I had a couple good sales (20-30$) but not many and then this one lady bought some stuf wholesale for her store in Big Flats, NY. Her sale was half of what I made for the day. But she said that she currently carried a brand of soaps (we have talked about here b4) from a company in NY but may stop carrying hers and just carry mine. That was a big compliment! So I was excited about it. I hope her customers like too. The bunnies were a huge hit, Sold all but 3 of those. I think I took 15. She bought half of all the lotions I brought (15 bottles), an entire sliced log (I didnt post pix of this one) that was the clear withdifferent colored curlies embeded in it. Which I had 7 bars left. 6 eye pillows and 4 patchouli soaps (she would have wanted more if I had mor with me). I just gave her a 45% discount but she wants me to send her a price list and stuf. So I have to get that together. So there is some potential in this new client. Other than that the show was not very good. Most people packed it up 2 hours early. Late in the afternoon was hardly any people there. Im sure the no travel advisory had something to do with it eh? lol Well there is a lot of people with quite a mess to clean up and still thousands and thousands of people as we speak with still no power. Ok so now we are home and exhausted. Our power had must have JUST BaRely came back on when we got home cuz the thermometer said it was like 58 degrees and the furnace was working like crazy. I would not be surprized if we lost power again tonite. Oh my little pine tree I started from sapling came back up. Leaning but standing. Well im gonna go finish watching Trading spaces and head to bed. Nite all! Shaye Ice Oh Shaye, isn't this ice awful? And we don't have it anywhere near as bad as you folks east of us. Glad you have the wood stove and the grill. It was a little warmer this a.m. on the way to the Falls but this afternoon everything is freezing again. At least there is no more rain at this time. Where is spring? Did you have your show today? Hope you did well if you did. I have one coming up next weekend so this week will be busy.. , hope your hubby is feeling better. My DH had an incidence like the one you described (he is also being treated for high blood pressure) and our wonderful doctor had him see a cardiac surgeon who recommended a pace maker. 's had no problems since. Not saying this is the answer to your DH's problem but hope you and he investigate all avenues... Yes Shaye, we had a ball in Florida. The grandkids were so wonderful to watch! As says 'when was the last time you felt so good you skipped and shouted?' Love those kids!! Guest guest
Hey Shaye! Sorry about your show but it sounds like it may have all been worthwhile if the wholesale account follows through! Sometimes some of the worst shows I've done have produced something good. I'm feeling very fortunate here in Naples. Our school closed on Friday but that must have been mainly because of the icy roads. I drove out of town for the first time today and couldn't believe the damage just within 25-30 minutes from my house! What a huge difference. My daughter, Kaitlyn, and I went to Geneva to pick up her glasses. She was so excited about her new glasses being ready and we got there only to find a sign on the door saying they were closed because of a power outage. Turns out the whole town was down. We drove into Canandaigua and everyone was closed there except Walmart! Good 'ol Walmart had a generator running! At least I was able to get some shopping done there. We must have been right on the edge of the ice because I don't even think the schools south of us closed on Friday. I saw the pictures of Monroe and Wayne counties on the news tonight and couldn't believe it. Sure looked like '91 all over again! We lost power for 8 days back then. Stay warm and safe! Good night all! Katy (p.s. Any Syracuse Orangeman fans here? Sam? I'm a huge fan and was bouncing off the couch tonight when they won their game! On to the Championship for them! WooHoo! Couldn't imagine what I would have done if the power had been out. I'd have been sitting in my van with the heat and radio on for sure! :-)
Guest guest
Wow Shaye! Talk about the weekend from hell! What a trooper you are-and a nice husband to help you so much! Glad you got that new account-you worked hard for it and sounds like it will pay off! I've was without power from 4:30 am yesterday when the smoke alarm went off-always starts wailing when the power is tripped-until this am. My hubby and I spent 7 hours-nonstop-bailing out the sump pump to keep the basement dry-I did the last 2 hours alone while he traveled to get a generator. (bail, bail, bail, rush upstairs and dump in toilet, back down on knees and bail, bail, bail.....) I ache today in places I didn't know I have! Last time we'll go through that madness-either battery backup sump pump, or generator purchase!!! They're saying it could go off again today while they make repairs and/or more limbs fall! ugh! Quick computer time! But I know there are many people much worse off than me- we at least still had hot water, and a gas stove so we could cook! (Sending warm and peaceful thoughts to all who are struggling!) Missed the SU game...... Carol J
Guest guest
Carol wow what a mess! Hope you got that thing working! I gues thats one thing to be said about living in an old house with a crawl space is that we dont have a basement to pump! It was reall windy last night and I thought sure that would just finish it off. Who knows when this is gonna end and everything back to normal whatever normal is. We are suppose to go to see a play at the school today. Not sure yet if its cancled or not. Poor kids that have worked hard on that. Shaye Re: Ice Wow Shaye! Talk about the weekend from hell! Guest guest
Oh shaye... i feel for ya... i've done a craft show by candle light of all things... (needless to say the candles on my table were the best sellers that day... bought by the other crafters)... believe it or not... that show was not as bad as i would have thought either... i made twice my table fee, and it was less then a 10 minutes drive... so no harm no foul... good to hear ya had a good turn out though... good luck with keepin power tonight Sam
Guest guest
Sam, someone had suggested candles but apparently it would have been a fire hazard to have that many candles burning. Plus someone could be burned, law suit, yada yada yada... But one lady did have a candle going but she was in a dark dark corner. But im glad thats over, now on to other stuf. So far so good with the power. We still have one line (not sure what it is) that is hanging off the house that someone has to come out and fix. Everyone is real busy right now. We worked on cleaning up some tree debris yesterday but its just too much. At least we got two of the three that had grown together cut down and off the house and other bushes. It really could have been a lot worse tho. At least we didnt have to go stay in a shelter. Shaye Re: Ice Oh shaye... i feel for ya... i've done a craft show by candle light of all things... Guest guest
I too agree with both of you. We were doing shuttle runs at college and my knee started to hurt so I stopped and my teacher ordered me to go get ice and all I got to put between that and my knee was a lousy paper towel, brrrr. I have to say it does help the swelling though. Kirsty ----- Original Message ---- From: Don Franck <panteradon@...> I am with you Ann. I always use a layer of cloth between my leg and the ice. Guest guest
BTW, my PT wets (just barely, you just want them humid) 2 facecloths and puts them on my knees and then crushed ice in garbage bags - apparently, the humid facecloths makes it conduct the cold faster and doesn't (burn) hurt your knees ... -- Ice ----- Original Message ----- From: Luci Sutherland I hate using ice for pain management, but it's all the rage to recommend it, so don't forget to ice your sore knees! Guest guest
I have always had an ice-pack with a towel around it to protect the skin. But it never works. It usually slides off the swollen area and freezes the sides where it's not really needed. I'm not saying the ice-pack and cloth method isn't best for you, but I actually prefer the Dixie-cup version. And my PT wouldn't let me use the Dixie cup ice for more than a few minutes because " we don't want you to get frostbite now! " But this method is the one that worked best for me because it put the ice exactly where I needed it, didn't have to be on there for half an hour, and could be combined with some gentle, targeted, rubbing which I really liked. Guest guest
I leave my pants on and put a frozen gel pack molded right over my knee when elevated. Works very well for me. Guest guest
I'll use a gel pack and an ace bandage. I'll start to wrap the bandage around my knee so I have one layer over my skin. Then I put the gel pack on and use the rest of the bandage to hold the gel pack in place. I just tuck the end into another area so I don't need a safety pin. Has worked for me for years...unfortunately!
Guest guest
Hi, I only had direct ice on my knees one time- at physical therapy. It was the most painful experience in my life. I started crying... no... WAILING- in front of everyone. Everyone should use this instead of ice: CVS Instant Cold Therapy Wrap. It's a thick gel like strip that you keep in the refrigerator. It's not nearly as cold as ice but it's cold enough to work. -Hedy > > BTW, my PT wets (just barely, you just want them humid) 2 facecloths and > puts them on my knees and then crushed ice in garbage bags - apparently, the > humid facecloths makes it conduct the cold faster and doesn't (burn) hurt > your knees ... > > > > -- Ice > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Luci Sutherland > > I hate using ice for pain management, but it's all the rage to recommend it, > so don't forget to ice your sore knees! Guest guest
Did you all know that the emergency services are trained to look on mobile phones for the entry ICE (In Case of Emergency). They recommend that we all put this into our mobile phones with the name and number of the person you want contacted in an emergency. If you are able (as I have just done ) you could also put a note about stweroid use, if you are using them. I have told my emergency contact that he sould mention steroids straight away if he is ever contacted by the emergency service about me... Just thought it may be useful as this is a new bit of knowledge for me... Leah xx
