Guest guest
I am writing to you as I am absolutely gobsmacked. My GP is very much old school,so I understood his lack of knowledge about Thyroid problems. However,my dad has also been diagnosed with depression for many years now,he has a terribly shakey hand, and various other symptoms. His mum, dad, aunt and brother all had hyper or hypothyroidism. His GP looked at his bloods, and said they were fine.My brother is in very similar situation, and has had a terrible sore throat for 4 months now.All blood tests have come back normal, his GP said the same thing. Both of these GP's are forward thinking in all other ways.I was planning on moving GP myself, but feel really despondant that there are none up here that have any knowledge at all about thyroid. My brothers GP I've worked with so I know her slightly, and have heard really good reports about her.I told my sister-in-law to ask for antibodies to be tested, but GP refused on grounds that his results were normal. Are there any scottish GP's who have a clue?I also have 3 patients (I am a CPN),who have thyroid which is monitored by their GP's,not by endocrinologists.I find it very difficult when they tell me about various physical problems,as I know some could be attributable to their thyroid.I've learned a lot from this site, but also feel torn because I feel my knowledge is lacking. Sorry for rambling, just felt a bit frustrated. Val
