Doctors haven't done much but give him the bad news because it's in the early stages. ly, according to him, they don't know anything about the disease accept that it slowly kills you. Does anyone have any websites or links to homeopathic remedies? Also, everywhere I look I also run into Crohn's diesease. Are these one in the same or related in any way? Are their remedies similar? I would hope we could find something to nip this in the bud. Thanks, Max
Guest guest
The information I found attributes it to autoimmune or genetic possibilities. Of course, do the BTD, drink plenty of water. Supplements for inflammation, immune balance and antioxidants. More grape seed extract and/or pycnogenol than Vit C which could be harsh on the kidneys. Salmon oil and Vit E Moducare or may have an immune calmer. How old is he? Any other health problems? Gee I hate when doctors do that dump thing on folks. There is always another option - or more - besides what a doctor knows anyway. Here's a very basic website: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000466.htm which says: " IgA nephropathy progresses slowly. In many cases, it does not progress at all. High blood pressure, large quantities of protein in the urine, and increased BUN or creatinine levels (blood tests that reflect kidney functioning) indicate a higher risk for progression of the disorder. " It's all about kidney damage and preventing it. Doctors base most of their kidney advice on erroneous advice to eat lower protein diet - it's backwards - you need a high *quality* high protein diet. The original research leading to the low/moderate protein story was done in cats (that's where I come in) in 1991 and has since been replaced by proper research - as the first used garbage protein in the cats and also high fat (40%) so the conclusions were invalid. I'm not a doctor. However, I know a good bit about kidney disease as it is the leading cause of death in cats and as you know I'm in that professional area - and because I have a kidney defect myself and some considerable incentive to study up on it. Your friend needs to take it easy and just collect the right information and act on it. I'll offer some starter objectives to consider below. Here the overall objective is to protect the kidneys so they last more than long enough. I have to do likewise as I have damaged ones plus a defect in function. A second suggested objective is to use homeopathy to undo the damage which is due to antibodies being made to one of the body's own immunoglobulins (gamma-A) - so it's another immune compromise situation. So the homeopathy is to: * undo the skewed immune system and get it back to balanced function with no gamma-A antibody making; * to repair already damaged kidney tissue; * to build resistance to more damage. To find a good homeopath here is a link: http://www.homeopathicdirectory.com/search.asp If you do not find one there, write to Bohle, Director of BIH/USA or Donna Earnest her secretary there care of this email: info@... and request names of BIH homeopaths in the area. May need to travel to a good one initially - and do email follow-up. Meantime to help the kidneys: * Large dose Vit E daily. I use 1000IU daily. It helps to undo scar tissue damage, is antioxidant to help prevent damage, and it helps lower oxygen requirement which has a positive effect on ease of kidney function. * High protein diet of HIGH quality animal protein - so no soy - it aggravates autoimmune conditions. (Blood type compatible of course) * Diet needs to include high amounts of pigments - spinach, dandelion greens, blueberries, carrots, turmeric, tomato and other red pigment lycopene items, peppers etc - depending on blood group. * Need to exclude ALL toxins - and I mean all. So no artificial anything, no nitrate/nitrite hot dogs, no preservatives, no artificial sweeteners, no MSG, no drugs. (For example I do not do aspiring, antibiotics, etc. * Most of all no steroids. So I put it separately. These destroy the ability of the body to re-balance the immune system. * NO saturated fat. * Low sodium. * No sugar, and low carbs. Sugar is inflammatory at cell level. This whole story is about ANTI-inflammatory at CELL level. (Steroids and aspirin are inflammatory at cell level so do not confuse the two!) * Plenty olive oil with oleic acid to control lipid profiles in the blood. Olive oil and fish oil are the fats to use. * GLucose in the blood must be 80-90 not out of range. Test it! * Lots of oily fish like salmon. Eat it DAILY. * MOST important - lots of fish oil from cold-water fish like salmon. (I take 4 caps a day minimum.) Fish oil is very special in helping kidneys as it reduces intra-glomerular pressure. That pressure is what causes the kidney damage of this disease - and high blood pressure also can cause it. So the blood pressure and ;lipid profile need fixup and the kidneys need pressure-lowering support directly. So you need to know a little about what makes pressure in the kidneys high to start with. Every fatty acid - well let me do abbreviations to simplify typing here first: linoleic acid LIN - not friend, found in plant oil linolenic acid, LEN - not friend, found in plant oil arachidonic acid ARA - not friend, manufactured by the body from plant oil or found in animal fat eicosapentaenoic acid EPA - BIG friend, found in fish oil docosahexaenoic acid DHA - BIG friend, found in fish oil Okay so every fatty acid has three main components, and it can help to understand them a little because this is where the real kidney pressure increase or decrease - and we want decrease - comes from - and this is how damage is caused in the kidney: [A reference I am using: " Influence on dietary fatty acids on intrarenal hypertension " - Brown, a string of letters, prof of Physiology/Pharmacology, U of Georgia.] Each omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (like DHA, EPA, ARA, LEN) has three eicosanoid components: prostaglandin prostacyclin thromboxane. Each of these components has different levels of inflammatory effect on cells - at cell level. the first two in each case, dilate renal vessels allowing lower pressure, and better throughput. The third one - thromboxane - does the opposite, it contracts the vessels lowering the flow. (This is the action area of things like " COX-2 inhibitor " drugs - they try to block the thromboxane.) But you can just choose better oils: What's important here is the combined effect of all three components of each fatty acid. And that's where the DHA and EPA are wonderful. Their particular thromboxane is very weak, overwhelmed by the vasodilator effects of their prostaglandin and prostacyclin. So that the NET effect is to dilate vessels with EPA and DHA in fish oil. With the ARA and LEN it is not that way - the net effect is to contract the vessels. Problem when vessels are contracted is fairly obvious: Less fluid can be processed through contracted vessels, which lowers GFR (glomerular filtration rate - the rate at which your kidneys can do their job). This puts the body in a bit of a panic and so it increases the pressure so as to get more fluid through the narrow vessels. But that in turn is damaging at cell level and so you get kidney damage from the high pressure. The effective GFR will thus get even worse and the nobody will try to process fluid by raising pressure yet again - and you see the vicious circle? So the idea is to use EPA and DHA so that the kidneys selectively use it rather than ARA etc (which they will do) and so that the net effect is dilated vessels in there. This allows more fluid through and lets the kidneys lower the pressure if anything, which is protective to the kidneys. In B's disease, there are already areas of the kidneys not working well due to gamma-A antibodies. so the idea is to protect what's left very well, and that's why this internal kidney pressure issue is so very relevant. This EPA/DHa trick to help kidneys is not all you need. You also need to generally lower your blood pressure if it is high. To start off with Hawthorn berry herb is great for this, and can assist the pressure without drugs (remember drugs harm kidneys) and the usual approach (and the one I used) is to take 2 tabs a day check BP in 3 days, go to 4 a day - check in 3 more days - etc till you see the level needed to help. In my case 8 a day. Then diet and homeopathy will do a more permanent pressure fix, but you need something in the beginning as a crutch till that can happen. Finally - lipid profile needs to be great -it is related not only to blood pressure but directly to kidney damage and all blood vessel damage. Kidney blood vessels need to be clear and unobstructed for good flow to keep that pressure down. Olive oil 5 times a d ay - no sat fat, a diet high in good protein and LOW CARBS. Carbs are the reason fat is stored. Insulin is what stores it - and so drop to low carb and your lipid profile will come right. I got mine from LDL 198 end July 2004 to current 118 in mid Nov - so in 4 months flat on a low carb high protein diet. Against my endocrinologist's advice to eat low protein for my kidney damage - I did the opposite and what was protein leaking in July - is no longer any protein leaking, nor even any microalbumin leaking in the urine. Proof of the diet strategy I used. My BP which was in the high numbers (185/130 area) is now in the 110/78 area *despite* my having other health issues that " should " raise it. It is not just me this works for - I see Dr Bernstein in his book on diabetes solution - has 60 or so years of experience with this diet for himself and his patients - who all have wonderful lipid profiles and BP too. He explains high protein and kidney damage well, and also how to control lipid and glucose and why. If there is ANY overweight involved - Dr BErnstein's book is a must as you need to undo the insulin resistance that comes with overweight and affects kidneys. If there is edema - that means there is lots of water *between* the cells, not in them where it belongs. The anti-inflammatory way of eating helps this enormously. So does avoiding blood type lectins and all toxins. Cell walls are speciel - if they are flexible (what you owant) then they will let the water and nutrients in and let the toxins out. If they are inflexible (due to " glycation " ), water and nutrients stay out - toxins stay in. Glycation is caused by free radicals and sugar. To be considered poison! Use antioxidants to overcome the radicals - pigments and vit C, vit E and alpha lipoic acid supplements. Change to a healthy drink like green tea. As an immune support supplement - Moducare - helps rebalance the immune system. I use 4 to 6 tabs a day depending how I feel at the time. I have a cold so 6 now. So this is a start - I hope I have suggested enough to go on with. This diagnosis is NOT by any stretch a death sentence. Doctors are very ignorant about kidney damage - but the research is there - kidneys contrary to doctor opinion - DO heal and come right and can repair. And when aq doctor says " no can do " it only means THEY do not know how to do it so ask elsewhere :-) It does not mean it can't be done. I see kidney repair in my client's cats all the time - and in myself and others. Do not believe the story that kidney damage is not reversible - it IS reversible and preventable. The homeopathy is the way to overcome the gamma-A issue as a precipitating cause - but that will take time - and this can be started now. Suggested reading: * For anti-inflammatory diet at cell level: " The Perricone Prescription " by Dr Perricone. It gives what foods are anti-inflammatory and what ones are bad. * for lipoid control, glucose control, explanation of necessity for high protein diet: " Dr Berstein's diabetes solution revised and updated " by Dr Bernstein * The kidney research paper mentioned above which explains the fatty acid effect on kidneys incase I did not get it. * Blood type encyclopedia to be sure what's selected is blood-compatible. * Hawthorn berry herb has plenty of heart-bp related research on PubMed. It's not toxic but the suggested slow increase is because it is so effective and you want to introduce it (and wean off it later) slowly and not by shock tactics. Support: I have a low salt list. It helps - it's not difficult - and you learn flavours that taste great. (Try some pure salt - it's not that great!) To subscribe: lowsalt-subscribe It's not very active sometimes but there is good info there and people wake up when someone needs help. Happy kidney health! Every 4 hours - 1000mg - is what I use. Vit C I use is ascorbic acid - it needs to be acid to take part in antioxidant reactions. Maybe the Ester-C one is the problem? It was invested to get around the problem of ascorbic acid in skin creams - it does not stay in cell walls - it goes into the cell and the cell wall then can get sunburn. So they make Ester-c to go act in the cell walls in the skin. Since then a bunch of " nonacid hype " has had people using Ester-c for internal as well. Vitamin C-ester - not the same as Ester-C - is fine for internal, but I stick with the acid as it is *known* to act in certain ways we want to see (redox reactions) to be beneficial as an antioxidant. > Salmon oil and Vit E > Moducare All three I agree are top of list stuff!!
