Guest guest
While searching the web last night I accidentally came across a 36 page TPA survey on Hypothroidism statistics in the UK. I am not sure how old this is or when it was done but it made a fascinating read and I found it very informative. I was very surprised at how there appears to be a North/South divide with regard to the numbers of people who have this condition. I know this is not representative of the true figures as my GP tells me that one in every patient he see's in our practice has a Thyroid condition yet I feel like I/We stand alone here in Bedfordshire & East Anglia compared to other areas of the country. I have to admit I am starting to feel more concerned now about my own future well being now it has been confirmed I have high antibodies especially as my GP did not seem too worried about it. I am worried that my GP is not prepared to make any references to a NHS Endo until it is too late and my thyroid has been totally destroyed. I know I would feel a lot happier if I could thrash out my whole medical history (past and current) with a NHS Thyroid expert for my own peace of mind and future well being, but it seems that I/We don't have the right to do that unless we go private. It is so unfair as there is also a big divide between the rich and the poor in the UK. Gillian
