Guest guest
Dear forum mebers, India will be sending a deligation to the UN General Assembly - Special Session on HIV/AIDS. New York - 25 to 27 June, 2001. It may be appropriate to discuess about the detials of Indan delegation who are going to New York. Perhaps, a person living with HIV/AIDS and leading members of Indian AIDS NGOs also should be part of the delegation. It may be worthwhile to discess about the statement, Indian delegation is suposed to be makining in the meeting. The break-the-silence@... proposed the folling qeustions as part of the prepartion for the participation in the conference [Moderator] - Have you tried to approach your government delegation about their priorities for the UNGASS meetings? - Have they welcomed your interest and input, or made things difficult? - Are you already an NGO or PWHA member of a national delegation to UNGASS? If so, how did you make that happen? Share your experiences in working with your government on UNGASS preparations: The forthcoming UN General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS provides an excellent opportunity for NGOs and other civil society organizations to make their voices heard and to forge more productive collaborations with their governments. Successful partnerships between people living with HIV, NGO’s, government departments, the UN system and private sector bodies may be one of the most important measures to ensure a stronger, more concerted response to the epidemic in the coming months and years. In preparation for the UN General Assembly Special Session, we are helping you to share your experiences in working with the national delegation in your country. Short descriptions of how well (or how badly) national delegations are including PWHA and NGO perspectives in their UNGASS Preparations will help others to plan the best approach to their own delegation. If you have a success story to share, it may help or inspire others. If you have been unsuccessful in contacting or influencing your government’s UNGASS delegation, you might help others avoid the same outcome by describing what has happened. We would be very happy to hear from you, as an individual, an NGO or a government actor, about your experiences - whether they are of a collaborative or difficult nature. Please send your submissions to: ungass@... Descriptions should be no more than 300 words long, and should include any information you think will be helpful to others in working with their own governments. Submissions will be widely shared through the Break-the-Silence forum, and will be compiled into an unofficial NGO document describing NGO/government collaboration around the UNGASS meetings.
