Guest guest
That's awesome. Congrats! Steph My hair is growing back I must be doing something right! My hair is growing back!Between the Iodine, the low dose of Armour, the magnesium and other stuff, I must be doing something right.I could do a jig right here by my desk.My hair has always been oily, extra thick, with a thick shaft, and curly curly, not kinky curly but medium tight curls, when it was short it would make a cap of curls all over. Well, I lost gobs of hair, and it got dull, baby fine, dry, limp, and lost its' curl. And it thinned out drastically especially on the top of my head. I really thought I would be bald before it was all over with. I could fish gobs of hair out of the shower drain every time I showered.Out of curiosity I had my daughter look at my scalp this evening, and she says I have all these short hairs growing!Dang that makes me feel happy. Guest guest
Hello,Would you mind giving a little more information on what you are doing? I am desperate that I might become bald. My hair has always been oily and the hairs are very fine and limp. Now it is falling out and not growing back so that I can see my scalp through the hairs. I am willing to try anything to have my hair back.Regards,Lucia I must be doing something right! Guest guest
Lucia:) I'm following the Iodine Protocol, however I'm at a low dose of iodine, I Herx badly on higher doses. I have to increase very slowly. I had blood work done and my TSH was high, triglycerides were high, body temp was 97.6 and the doc gave me a script for Armour thyroid. I take NutriMeds adrenal plus, sometimes every day, and sometimes every other day depending on how I'm feeling, licorice root, Rhodiola Rosea, coleus forskholi, and gensing, and guggul which I haven't been taking as long as everything else. I don't take all of them every day. I usually switch out the gensing, licorice, rhodiola, and coleus, every other day. And I take one day off a week from everything that's not absolutely necessary. I pay attention to what my bod is telling me, I vary the dosage, and whether I take anything at all, accordingly. I take milk thistle for liver support and protection. With all the toxins clearing the system that's important. I take Armour thyroid, Lugol's Iodine, magnesium, selenium, R-ALA, vit C, Acetyl L Carnitine, vit D3, a liquid B Complex, a probiotic, broad spectrum digestive enzymes, turmeric, cinnulin, Omega 3 and 6's, gymne sylvestre, Garlic. Sea Salt or natural red salt, it has iron in it. I drink a lot more water, purified water, anywhere from 100 - 128 oz a day. I may have left some things out. Oh yeah, I just started using baking soda to alkalize. I overdid it a bit the first day or so, so I skipped a couple of days, and then started 1/4 teaspoon in ten ounces of water twice daily. But that's just been in the last week. I was taking Raw Thyroid, and then switched to NutriMeds porcine thyroid and Adrenal before I started taking Lugol's, and it had kelp in it which means Iodine. And the rest of it was due to hours and hours, and days of research. And then trial and error with combinations and different things. Some worked and some didn't. I spent eight months figuring out how much of what worked with what, and what didn't, trial and error. I'm still trying various new things. I keep what works and discard the ones that don't. And this stuff may, or may not, work the same for you. Everyone has a different body chemistry going on, so you may need different things. I hope that made sense. I'm tired, so it may not. Guest guest
Exactly what are you doing do you think, that is starting the regrowth? Thanks Bethann. Maybe you could post to me privately in lieu of it not being about Iodine S From: YardBirdMail Date: 12/30/2009 12:06:57 AM iodine Subject: My hair is growing back I must be doing something right! Guest guest
It has everything to do with Iodine, and detoxifying, and anti oxidants. I was taking an OTC supplement, Raw Thyroid, for months that had kelp in it, not a large dose but still iodine, without realizing the implications of kelp = iodine. Not until I read the label again one day, got curious about why they added kelp, and started researching kelp which led me to Lugol's iodine. Took three of four bottles of the Raw Thyroid over a four month period before I switched to another brand, but by then I'd found Lugol's, done some research, and ordered a bottle. I think it was during this period of time that my hair loss slowed. At least I didn't notice as much falling out anymore. I don't know when it started growing in again. The Iodine, and the R-ALA and vit C, and other stuff I was already taking like licorice root, that helps balance cortisol and other hormones, probably contributed. And the other adaptogens, like gensing, rhodiola rosea, coleus forskholi, which nudges more T3 production. And guggul, which isn't an adaptogen it nudges the the thyroid to do more of its' thing, and milk thistle because I'm taking all this crap, and the poor liver gets dumped on. I also stopped using processed sugar and started using stevia, long before I did anything else, and stevia was the first thing I ever used. It stopped my ankles from swelling. But not the stuff with lots of additives, sweetleaf works best, for me anyway, followed by Swanson's brand in the box, not the powder. Their loose powder has 'honey powder' mixed in and I couldn't determine what the honey powder was made from. I've also bought 1000 loose packets in a plastic bag, on Amazon when it goes on sale. But that one is not as good as the others for keeping the ankle swelling down. Can't remember the brand right now, it's been a while. Truvia is an absolute no no, It is mostly erythritol with just a touch of Stevia. Not as healthy as they're making it out to be. Erythritol is an alcohol sugar and should be avoided if there's a Candida problem. Even though it is almost a zero on the glycemic scale, and is almost calorie free. I take gymne sylvestre for blood sugar balance, and healing the pancreas, it also stimulates insulin production. And I take (cinnamon extract)cinnulin with each meal. Gymne has been reported to help heal the cells of the pancreas. Hypothyroid folks have glucose control problems a lot of the time, and/or metabolic syndrome, and the cells can become resistant to insulin. Cinnulin has been proven to help increase cell sensitivity to insulin. I take a broad spectrum probiotic with about 15 different types of gut bacteria, and broad spectrum digestive enzymes, sometimes with a meal, and sometimes on an empty stomach. I started those about two months ago. I take Turmeric for any type of inflammatory process that might be going on that I don't know about. The whole spice powder, organic. Not that circumin extract. The extract does nothing for me. I'vr tried both and the whole spice just works a lot better, for me anyway. And clean purified water, I have increased my water intake, purified or distilled water only. I drink about 3/4 a gal to a gallon a day. I cut out sodas, tea, milk, and fruit juices, everything really except coffee. I'm still guilty of drinking coffee. I've been hanging onto the coffee like a drowning woman, LOL, maybe one day I'll be able to give it up too. Oy, but not today! And eating, I cut down on red meat, more chicken and EGGS! I crave omelets. I've always eaten veggies and I crave them now too. Especially anything green leafy. LMAO a raw spinach salad makes me drool! I try to eat several fruits every day, organic. I try not to eat much bread, even whole grain, though I occasionally eat a whole wheat bread sandwich. And And I'm looking for a bread making machine, so I can make my own and not get all the garbage they put in bread now. I cut out anything that might possibly have MSG, aspartame, splenda, maltodextrose, or high fructose corn syrup. I stopped using any kind of commercially made soap. I got Dr Bronner's bar soap and use it on my hair as well, works great to clean without stripping all the moisture, and makes my hair very soft and non frizzy. I started making my own laundry detergent, from bicarbonate of soda (I think that's right), borax and feldman's soap. No more fillers, or phosphates, or whatever is in the stuff on the shelf. I stumbled across emu oil and switched to that for painful joints and muscles. In fact I use it exclusively in place of any kind of lotion or cream with chemicals in them. It's a natural anti inflammatory and analgesic. It's a water loving oil that penetrates all seven layers of skin. It plumps up the skin wonderfully and doesn't leave a greasy residue. I've used it as an oil treatment for my scalp and hair. I sprained an ankle at one point and the turmeric and the emu oil had the swelling down in about 24 hours with minimal bruising and very little pain. I sprained a knee and same thing. I stopped using commercial antiperspirants and switched to a natural stone deodorant that works great. I can even get it in a pump spray bottle. And it's great for smelly feet and shoes. I've even used it on funky smelling clothes hampers. And musty smelling car seats, and couches. I don't use the toxic crap they call cosmetics ANYMORE, I can get eyeshadows, lipsticks, and such made from just pure minerals and they work as well or better than that other toxic junk. They cost about the same and a lot of times less. I don't use fingernail polish. I refuse to put that chemical soup on my nails. The Iodine I have found is one of the pivotal things I take. And all the rest would work and did work, and improved the way I felt up to a point, but it all works much much better with the addition of Iodine. And the low dose of thyroid meds. And all this didn't magically appear and happen over night. Figueing out the supplements has taken more than a year, closer to two, and some eight or nine months of fiddling with the dosages of stuff I was adding. The other stuff I've changed over a three or four years. It's been a huge, long, frustrating, trial and error experiment. I can't tell you how many things I tried that worked for other people but did not work for me, and did nothing but leave me disappointed and gloomy:/ I spent whole days, day after day, reading online, watching videos, listening to radio interviews and podcasts, looking up research studies, and papers and trying to keep up with the latest information, researching ingredients in products, supplements and other. I still do, and I still don't know everything. I doubt I ever will. It's been a very long tiring road, and the battle is not won yet. The best advice I can give you, is read, read, and read some more. This group has excellent resources, and so do the thyroid groups. Make sure what you're reading is from a reputable source with some real research behind it. And then try a few things to see how it goes, don't add everything at once. Add one thing at a time and pay attention to what your body is telling you. Give each addition three or four days or a week to see how it works with everything else. Thyroid effecting things can take as long as three months, and even longer, of use before you see any results. Same for the adrenals. But the length of time varies from person to person. The body doesn't get messed up all of a sudden but over time, and it will take time and effort to get back to well. There is no magic formula, no certain combination of anything, just determination, diligence, and knowledge about the things causing the body to be out of balance, so you can eliminate them and use things that don't poison you. Some things work synergistically and you have to reduce a few things when you add something new. That takes some knowledge of what you're taking and how it works. And keep a log of what you take and when, and how you react to it. That way you don't have to remember what combination you took, and when. I called mine my mad scientist book It's the same thing as a lab log where the scientist writes down actions and results, only you are experimenting on yourself. Whatever you do, go slow and be cautious. Herbs are potent things and so are vitamins and such. Just because you can buy them OTC doesn't mean they are harmless if you take too much, or combine the wrong things. Many of the pharma drugs we have today were extracted from plants. So I believe it's a combination of things I've been doing over time that's done it. And it's just a sign post telling me I'm going in the right direction. I haven't arrived yet. There's still quite a journey ahead. There is no magical concoction, or certain steps I did or did not do. Just research and finding what worked for me through lots of trial and error. I hope I answered your question. That's the best explanation I have. Bethann If we could sell our experiences for what they cost us, we'd all be millionaires. Guest guest
Hello Bethann, Thank you so much for your very detailed and informative reply. Everything made perfect sense. Of course I know that not everything works the same for everyone, but I needed to have a good starting point for my investigations. Now I have stuff to research that will last me a long time. Thanks again. Have a Happy New Year! My best, Lucia Lucia:)I'm following the Iodine Protocol, however I'm at a low dose of iodine, I Herx badly on higher doses. Guest guest
Bethann, A big hearty Congratulations to you! That was truly an amazing report of your untiring work and effort, personal research and experimentation over those years. And the best thing is it is working for you. What a nice way to start the New Year! Keep up the great work! I think I'll try the R-ALA. I keep hearing so much about that. I'm pretty much all natural on everything else as well, but there are still some things to try on my list. Thank you! Sasha

Guest guest
I took MSM for a while as part of my whole protocol. Guest guest
I took MSM for years before I knew I was hypoT. It cured almost all of my symptoms, which I now know were hypoT symptoms. It stopped working once I became post menopausal. I took 1/4 tsp daily and then increased my dosage up to 1 tbl daily. I since have learned that smaller quantities are better than larger. There is a 'rumor' that it can affect the kidneys. I only had good results from it. My body doesn't seem to need it anymore. Ray Peat says its antithyroid but I don't agree with him. Guest guest
I can't claim to know everything there is to know about MSM, but one of its functions is to supply the body with sulfur, which is used for one of the detox pathways. NAC & (I believe) alpha lipoic acid also supply sulfur, as does the new product OSR... For those who can't tolerate MSM, one of the sulfur-based product might offer an alternative? (Suggesting this as a subject for research, rather than a fact.)AnneOn Dec 31, 2009, at 10:49 AM, owlsplace wrote: Masking underlying health issues is a downside of high-dosing MSM. Guest guest
I don't think of it that way. It helps the metabolism, like eating coconut oil. Just that alone can heal the body. It healed my body in many ways. Joan > Masking underlying health issues is a downside of high-dosing MSM. Guest guest
MSM--I found that if hubby takes 3 daily that he stops snoring. He used to be heard outside house at other end. We were on vacation for 2 weeks and his snoring came back as he didn't take MSM or fish oil with him. The fish oil helped him to drop 42 points in cholesterol from 253 to 211 in  6-8 months. I have been doing some diet changes with him and he lost 25 pounds during that time too. I take 5 MSM for pain and it seems to cut my pain in half. I have FM, RA and degenerative spine and rear ended twice in 2 years by drunk drivers. Pam On Thu, Dec 31, 2009 at 11:19 AM, coloredoctave <joanlulich@...> wrote:  I don't think of it that way. Guest guest
Well, isnt that interesting. I never heard that MSM is good for treating snoring... I buy mine from a health food co op in a powder and I mix about a spoon full with water and take some almost everyday, to help my lungs, I used to have pneumonia. from a freezing cold Columbus Ohio, we won the Rose Bowl Game, go buckeyes > > > > > > > I don't think of it that way. Guest guest
Where do you get MSM and what strength?
