Hi All,

http://www.womenshairlossproject.com/hair-loss/iron-hair-loss/#more-74

I was perseverating on my hair loss, which continues though I am now up

to 50mcg T3. Its taken five months to get to 50mcg and hair has been

falling all the time. My ferritin was about 15, I think, and after three

months on iron tablets it was up to 30. I'm on Spa Tone iron sachets now

to see if that works any better.

Anyway I found this site for women's hair loss info and this one article

has a very long discussion in the comments. There is no forum on the

site so it seems the comments section on this article has become the

forum.

Seems that ferritin needs to be 70-90 for hair growth as well for

thyroid hormone to work. L-Lysine and Biotin are also mentioned a lot,

plus on another page there is mention that candida can stop iron

absobtion which might explain why some of us find it very hard to get

ferritin to increase in spite of being on supplements.

Also the tea and coffee thing is mentioned - too much will stop iron

from being absorbed. Again, what is bad for thyroid function is also bad

for iron stores.

Hope this is helpful,

CJ

Hi Jane - you are likely losing your hair because your Ferritin

level is so very low - this is one of the symptoms, so you need to increase

whatever iron medication you are taking. It could be that Spa Tone is not

potent enough and you should start Ferrous Sulphate or Ferrous Glutomate at 200

mgs daily, though with your low ferritin, this could be doubled. Do take high

dose Vitamin C such as 4 to 5000mgs daily while taking iron. Also, make sure

you don't take any iron anywhere near your thyroid hormone replacement, at leas

four hours apart.

Luv - Sheila

Thanks Sheila, I was taking ferrous suphate and then ferrous fumarate for the

three months and my iron only increased slightly. I spoke to Dr P and he said

use Spa Tone as it is more easily absorbed. SO I have been taking two sachets a

day for the last several weeks. Maybe I will take some ferrous sulphate as well

I still have some left.
