Hi folks

I was diagnosed a very long five years ago with hypothyroidism. On

100mcg thyroxine I became well in myself but after five weeks of

normality I developed arthralgia, myalgis, aching and feeling unwell.

Saw Dr Peatfield, ran the whole course of supplements and

Hydrocortisone with no improvement. I also tried Armour thyroid but

couldn't tolerate it at all. I had already discovered that if I

didn't take the tablets I didn't get the symproms but I seemed to be

the only one who realised this. The usual response was " your TFT's

are normal so you must be OK.

I had to reduce the dose to 75mcg which helped a litte. Over time

the sympoms have worsened. I have seen an Endocrinologist, been

fully investigated and for the last year have been taking various

thyroxine capsules made to order by dales but I react to them

in just the same way. I am back on the standard thyroxine tablets

and need to take 100mcg. For the last three weeks I have been

cutting a 100mcg tablet into quarters and taking a quarter every six

hours.

Now the rejection is building up again and I am not feeling too good,

my chest is going tight sometimes and my eyes have started to itch at

times. The picture is that for whatever reason my body is reacting

allergically to my tablets and have been right from the start.

The Endoccrinologist is no help - he offered to refer me to a certain

Professor W or a psychiatrist. at which point I went ballistic.

I am already having to cancel my committments because I don't feel

well enough, I have to employ someone to do my housework and yet if I

don't take the tablets I am extremely well.

Where do I go from here. All I can think is that maybe Prednisolone

would prevent the allergy but before I see my GP, who is new and

does't know me at all, I thought maybe someone out there has heard of

this problem before or may have a suggestion to make.

I live in hope - Tilly
