homeopaths

From: Rich or Ann Maxted <crossbow@...>

I would also like to know if anyone knows of any good homeopaths in the Los

Angeles area. Actually I live about an hour north of there. If not, can

anyone tell me what to look for in a homeopath to know that he is good?

Thanks for your help, Ann

We go to a Naturpath and depending on the nature of the visit it cost us

between $70.00 and $90.00. That is with no help from insurance. We never did

a consolation ... we just go see him when we are sick and can't seem to kick

it ourselves ... sometimes I just call him up and he tells me over the phone

what to go get.

NO! My naturopath charges about $100 for the initial consultation and around

$75 for each subsequent visit.

To All the Curious:

The Diplomate in Homeopathy is somewhat of an odd " degree " and can be

obtained by real post-graduate work and clinical practicum OR EVEN BY

MAILORDER! Be very careful when the doctor makes claims. Do your

research. Did they pass the American Board? Where did they get their

training?

Homeopathy is a distinct healing art and is not an alternative to, or

subordinate to any other healing art. Unfortunately, there is no

licensing of homeopaths in this country. Technically, anyone can

practice homeopathy in the U.S. and you don't even need a license

because it is not the practice of chiropractic, osteopathy, medicine, or

naturopathy. Although it is not the practice of any of these

professions, all of them have been known to use homeopathy.

Diplomate programs in the U.S. exist, and are put on by at least one of

the chiropractic colleges (National - 1 year after D.C. degree) and

included in the formal training of the Naturopaths from Bastyr College

and the Chiropractors at National College. In fact, National will soon

be getting university status with schools of chiropractic, naturopathy,

homeopathy, and accupunture. At this point, however, there is no

formal, 4-year school for homeopaths in this country and the schools

outside the U.S. are mailorder schools.

Just because someone is an MD doesn't necessarily make them a good

homeopath. The truth is that the philosophy of practice of the two

professions are exactly opposite. This would lead me to wonder how one

could justify a treatment when one training program tells you to do

something different than the other, i.e. symptom suppression vs. symptom

magnification. NDs (naturopaths) are a little better, but use many of

the same principles of western medicine in approach. DCs and DOs have a

more closely aligned practice philosophy to homeopathy than all the

other groups. Another group that has a similar practice philosophy are

OMDs/accupunturists, although it is less likely for them to use

homeopathy.

I personally would feel embarassed to charge $1500 for a consult! I

guess, however, there are people that would pay it without question. I

know my patients would have a heart attack on the spot if that was the

consult fee. " Consult " doesn't even mean making suggestions or doing

anything!

The first degree (D.C., N.D., D.O., M.D.) doesn't mean diddly-do-da when

discussing homeopathy because it has nothing at all to do with

practicing homeopathy. ONLY THE TRAINING IN HOMEOPATHY (AND PASSING THE

BOARDS) MATTTERS! The price you pay is up to you.

Thanks Jim,

I thought her price was a little high! So let me ask you this. Do all

Chiropractors practice homeopathy? Or do any? Do you know of any

Chiropractors you could recommend in the southern Calif area as I have been

in search of them as well. So what credentials should I be looking for in

a good homeopath? Thanks for your help, Ann

Ann:

The only way to know is to ask.

A Dip.Hom. is a start, but ask about the training. Ask about boards and

qualifications. I'd even ask for references. Remember, you are the one

paying the bill! After all, you wouldn't go to the grocery store and

pay 3 times the market price of the goods for only half the amount,

would you?

Unfortunately, I don't know of any qualified homeopaths in S. CA. I

would suggest contacting Dr. Plezbert at the National College of

Chiropractic in Lombard, IL for a listing of diplomates and direction to

the National Board of Homeopathic Examiners (no relation to the school).

National College has a website, although the address escapes me.

That sounds absolutely riduculous to me. While I usually believe 'you get

what you pay for' - with that kind of price, I can't help but wonder what

the motive is, ya know? We found a wonderful homeopath that charges about

$150 first visit and about $90 thereafter - which is still to much for us

to pay on a regular basis ...but he's there if it is beyond my capability

to treat at home.

Good luck finding a (reasonable) homeopath!

Hi Ann. Whew!!! That is outrageously high! He/she certainly has a high

opinion of themselves. I'm in Canada and I have seen the consultation fee

run from $80 to a high of $300. Follow-up appts. are always cheaper. The

$300 guy charged $150 for his first follow-up and $75 each visit

thereafter. I found his prices to be way too high and negotiated with

him. He had told me that he " isn't in it for the money " (sounds so

familiar), that he likes to help people. He said most of his customers

have no problem paying his regular fees. He agreed to charge me

half-price, so $150 for the consultation. I have a friend who lives in NY

state who says that $300 was way out of whack with NY fees as well. I

wouldn't trust anyone charging $1000. I don't think much of the $300 hom.

either.

Good luck in your search. I found it very difficult to find a hom. I could

trust and feel good about.

Trudy asked :

Could you please tell me (or anyone else out there)

what you have tried that has been effective,

and what you have tried that did not work?

Annette's reply :

Trudy, I found a fabulous remedy for my frequent sore

throats/glands etc. It is called BARYTA CARB.

After that initial success I was happy to try other

homeopathic remedies for my other major symptoms but

nothing else worked.

Homeopathy is so very individual so a good homeopath

is very important.

I would love to find a real homeopath in Savannah, GA. Your site has none

for Georgia or South Carolina. What really is upsetting is that when I go to

some so-called naturopath/homeopath, they always want me to take an expensive

cleanse before they do anything. I've done this and I DON'T NEED A CLEANSE. I

almost needed a new rectum after the Rambo cleanse I signed up for. Is there

any way to find a real homeopath, a healer? Not someone who makes their

money cleaning my system out. I know I'm asking the impossible from you but I

just wanted to point out my frustration here. Are there any " right " questions

to

ask to ensure I'm being treated by the real thing?

Okay, I was feeling a little down today, but this made me laugh

out loud. You certainly do have a way with words! :)

I hear you on the cleanse. Anyone who's had a lower endoscopy

has had to drink that clear-out crap the night before and

experience atomic diarrhea. Exhausting!

My homeopath in Los Angeles is an M.D. who became

dissatisfied with Western medicine and trained for years to be a

classical homeopath. People travel for miles to see him. In fact,

I'm traveling (for miles) to see him on Wednesday and I will ask

him if there's a website that lists only classically-trained

homeopaths. If you have a choice, always go for one that's

classically-trained. (He's never once required me to cleanse!!!)

His specialty is constitutional remedies, but he's also very good

with acute condition remedies. He got rid of my chronic

bronchitis. I don't know how the hell he did it, but he figured out

the remedy.

I also know of an outstanding classical homeopath in the Bay

Area, if anyone's interested.

I know so many people who go to their local vitamin store, get

sold something that's " homeopathic, " get no results, and then

declare that homeopathy is bogus. A good classical homeopath

sometimes won't tell you the name of the remedy because the

description you find on the Internet will have nothing to do with

your condition, and you'll just get confused. What gets sold in

vitamin stores is low dosage.

A constitutional remedy addresses your physical problems AND

works with you on a mental & emotional level as well. It's so

deep and so involved I can't explain it, much less understand it.

You mentioned a classical homeopath in the Bay Area.

May I have the information? I have used holistic and acupuncture with

great results.

Interesting

When Mishio Kushi was asked if he had any specialty he asked what do you

mean? Someone said: well we have Naturopaths, homeopaths etc..

He just smiled and said he would never label/limit himself like that.

I don't think that comparing a homeopath who doesn't just use homeopathy

to treat is the same as a part time brain surgeon.

Homeopathy can be replaced while surgery can't.

I do use homeopathy, but I wish I could post the link to the study where

conventional medicine *tested* it and non of the homeopaths were

successful.

I am sure Irene you have heard of the study.

I have to totally agree with this statement. Being on this diet and on this

finding uncontaminated or non-genetically altered food. This diet has helped me

slowly claw my way back to good health one paw at a time. Instead of getting

older, I've gotten younger inside.

Well I'd not want him to find me a homeopathic remedy then :-)

It's not possible to be an excellent homeopath if you spread yourself

thin elsewhere. In fact THAT would be limiting. It would limit one's

ability as a homeopath.

As a homeopath the fact that I do no other profession currently, means

that I can keep up with what I need to know in an ever expanding world

of knowledge, and that I also can apply that knowledge effectively.

> I don't think that comparing a homeopath who doesn't just use homeopathy

Your term about someone who will " just use homeopathy " is limiting and

doesn't apply to anyone. A homeopath has a homeopathic remedy as the

central healing component - it determines the direction of healing fro

the case - but it is not the only component of the homeopath's skills.

Homeopathy is not some narrow science which throws a remedy at an

illness and goes home :-))

> Homeopathy can be replaced while surgery can't.

That's like saying electricians can be replaced but plumbers can't

(or vice versa).

Neither can be replaced.

Both homeopathy and surgery are necessary professions under the health

care umbrella.

For example if you want gangrene to go away - it's essential to use

homeopathy. Surgery does not take gangrene away - it takes limbs away;

not too helpful if you want your limbs.

If you want to remove autism, that also needs homeopathy. Also for FIP

in cats for example, and if you want to avert infectious disease without

predisposing chronic disease, you need homeopathy.

There's a lot only homeopathy can fix.

Surgery is also necessary.

> I do use homeopathy, but I wish I could post the link to the study where

> conventional medicine *tested* it and non of the homeopaths were

> successful.

You don't need to post it. Conventional medicine can't " Test " homeopathy

any more than plumbers can test electrical wiring with plumbing tools

and vice versa. It's like asking to measure water with a ruler. It

doesn't make the water non-existent or impossible to measure - just does

not measure with the tools of another system with different goals and

different components.

By the same token conventional medicine (allopathy) can't show results

by homeopathy standards either. The goal of homeopathy is to build

health and resistance to disease without doing any harm. Allopathy does

not even attempt to do that and would fail miserably if tested against

that standard.

I have my own standard:

Show me the allopath who has any cures for FIP in cats.

or the allopath who has any cures for extensive gangrene.

Or let's make it easy:

How about plantar's fasciitis with bone spurs cure?

or chronic herpes in cats?

But there are no comparative studies on that.

Why?

Because allopathy can't even get to the starting line with one case :-)))

It's not that there aren't any cases.

It's just that allopathy has *no* cure for thse things and can't offer a

challenge :-))

The allopaths will call it fixed if the symptoms are not visible.

Homeopathy has a higher standard. It is not fixed unless health is

restored as well as resistance to recurrence being there. That takes

longer to achieve.

There are lots of studies - many positive but most of them bogus.

It's trying to compare apples and oranges. You can't get apple juice

from an orange no matter how hard you squeeze.

The studies are also never patient enough (costs a lot) to wait for

homeopathy to work, and the way homeopathy works does not lend itself to

the double-blind quick suppression of symptoms which is the hallmark of

allopathy.

What you need to see is the difference in objective:

Building long-term true health and resistance

versus

Hiding symptoms, preferably for 5 years.

Namaste,

Irene
