Stop buying avoids. Give away the avoids, eat them if you can't give them to

someone, but don't buy any more.

I am having a very difficult time starting ER4YT diet. How did you all

do it? " Cold turkey " ? Eliminating slowly? My willpower is really

sucking!!!

Tricia,

It isn't easy at first.  You may go off the wagon several times, but hang in

there, it gets easier.

I started by eliminating wheat, corn and peanuts, because weight was an issue

for me and wheat, corn and peanuts are listed as major problems for weight gain

for O's.

Next, I eliminated diary.  I learned to eat my cereal, which is rice for me,

with fruit and a little stevia.  You are allowed a couple of dairy products a

week, so I chose to eat yogurt with fruit in it with my cereal.

I mix it in with my warmed up brown rice.

I also made a list of all the products I could have instead of wheat, corn,

peanuts and dairy.

Once those things are out of your diet, the beneficial fruits and veggies are a

snap!!

Coffee was hard for me and every once in awhile I have to have a cup.  I drink

hot lemon tea in the morning to clear out all the phlegm and during the day, I

like seltzer water mixed with pineapple juice, regular water or other herbal

teas.

I hope you will find some of this helpful.  Also, I like dried pineapple, or

other dried fruits for snacking with beneficial nuts instead of candy.  And,.,..

natural licorise is ok too.  I eat Carob coated raisons or almonds sometimes

too.

Cheers,

If you are thinking it is willpower - then you are most likely thinking in

terms of what you have to give up. And not thinking of what you have to

gain.

You are basically having to change an addiction, so there are both mental

and physical adjustments. Right now you might not even know how wonderful

you can feel.

Do you want to be well? Feel great? Keep your kids healthy?

*If the answer is YES*, then you can do it. You look for answers and keep

trying until you retrain your brain. The better you feel the easier it is

to keep going and you will then wonder what the big deal was.

*If that doesn't matter to you,* then it probably won't happen.

Tricia,If you are on your own, be sure to eat before shopping, or have

an O friendly snack handy to snack on before you shop if you are on

your way home from work.

If you are buying for only yourself, don't buy what you shouldn't have.

If you are buying for other family members, have a location out of

sight for them to keep what you shouldn't be eating. Half the battle is

out of sight out of mind. Many people went cold turkey. I illiminated

one section at a time. Since I was having trouble with arthritis, I

started with wheat. I'd hurt for 7 months and haven't had another

attack like that since.

Make a list and go in the store with it. Stick to it and after a while

you wont' have a problem. Don't forget to read labels.

I planned carefully to do it 100% for one long weekend.

I felt so good after 3 days, I decided to do it for a week.

Lost 10 lbs of edema.

After that I was less compliant, and it took me a couple years to get

very good at it, but I did it using two principles:

I concentrated mainly on what TO eat, and did my shopping and meal

planning accordingly.

That caused me to identify the hardest things to avoid - but I

eliminated them one at a time, slowly, substituting other things i

LIKED.

Enjoying what I eat is important in my change to ER4YT - and the

health benefits keep me there.

A few yrs down the line I know what avoids I can eat now and then and

how often and how much and what price I will pay.

:-)

Namaste,

Irene
