yup, i think thats a good idea

do you have tony's no fail soap?

that may be a good one for a starter, its just crisco with the correct

amounts of h20 and lye, run it through the lye calculator, or i can search it

down for you

I guess I will have to detail how the communication log should be filled

out, and what information must be included daily.... I will write up my

ideas and get that ammended to her IEP on Wednesday! At the moment, the

log is in her IEP, but I don't think there are any details about what it

must contain.... it will now :-)

They do fill out a communication log every day, so according to them

(and probably the state), they would be in compliance. And they

probably think I shouldn't complain because I do get a lot of

information, probably more than a lot of people. But, they spend time

detailing minute stupid things to document what isn't doing,

how they are working with her 1:1, etc. It comes up at every meeting,

but the bottom line is, the aide doesn't change, and I think that they

all know that no matter how much they tell her, it won't change. She's

been with since kindergarten, where as we've had 6 different

Resource teachers (who act as case managers and should supervise the

aide, but she's intimidating and been around longer than any of them

have/were), 3 different principals (the most recent has potential, but

she's been with us less than 6 months, so she has to get up to speed),

and of course, a different teacher every year. Luckily, this aide won't

be going to middle school next year with , and boy, I know I'll

be addressing this issue for next year right from the transition meeting!

As I review the sheets from this year so far, it seems to me like on

days that works hard on everything and is cooperative on

everything, I get actual information. For example, last Wednesday there

was a lot of useful information and no " negative " comments.... it did

say that the class answered questions in social studies workbook by

themselves and E couldn't do that, so aide gave her the answers (which

is another problem :-) I'm fine hearing that she tried, but couldn't do

something, and she did give the Lesson # (and I have finally received a

social studies book for home.... huge issue, but they werent' sending

hers home every day).... this will be one I hold up as a good example

(well, except for the aide giving her the answers).

However, most days I'd get something like " Math - did one page, refused

to do second page " .... they can't understand why I'd like to know what

math she was doing??? Addtion, subtraction, regrouping, word problems,

what? And from what... her regular math book, a worksheet from

teacher/RSP? Was it important.... should they have sent it home for

HW? Maybe they were asking her to do decimals or something.... who

knows, not me :-) Or, " wrote 2 sentences " ..... well, what was the

expectation, was that OK, or was she supposed to write an essay?? I

mean, 2 sentences seems like a small assignment for 5th grade, so my

guess is, she didn't do everything.... but then again, they are very

good a documenting " picked up her pencil but wouldn't write " or " stared

at paper, played with eraser shavings, etc. " so I could also assume that

since I wasn'' informed of her uncooperative behavior, that 2 sentences

was OK :-)

We've tried having the teacher fill it out instead of the aide, but they

don't have the time to really give the info I want. We've tried having

them send home a photocopy or email of their weekly lesson plans (and

I've said " Oh, I know these might change, but it gives me and idea of

what will be covered this week. " ). We've altered the form (and that's

one thing I'll be insisting on at the meeting, and that I get to approve

the new form... I've offered to make it, but been turned down :-), and

each version gets better, but it still needs to be filled out completely.

Thanks for the suggestion about filing a complaince complaint.... I

never think about doing that, and I should have that closer to the front

of my brain than I do :-) I should probably write that inside her IEP

binder that I take to meetings, just for my own reminder!

front of the class, but when we let her sit at her desk, she was fine

Although I will present it nicely, I know everyone will be really ticked

off, but I don't care.... this is the 6th year we've had this aide, and

she STILL does things her way rather than the way the team says, and no

one can seem to change that. I generally believe that you catch more

flies with honey, as long as they know that the beehive is made of steel

and full of Africanized killer bees!

You already seem to be moving in this direction, but you might want to

stress even more clearly that you are looking to do positive behavioral

support and therefore need positive information-not how many times she did

something not desired, but how many times she did what she was supposed to/

what helps her learn, etc.

Having the clear extra info about curric presented, adaptation, supports,

etc. obviously would be invaluable in determining what works with educating

her.

when I read through that post, and figured out what you were going to do - send

back a checklist of how well they are conveying information TO YOU - - I think

that is agreat idea (and funny), but I wonder if they will the IEP team will

seriously take you up on it.

When my (nds)daughter was in 5th grade last year, every student had a planner,

and each days assignment was written in that notebook, page numbers, by

subjects, etc. Surely the 5th graders at 's school have to keep

themselves organized in some way too, don't they? I know this isn't exactly what

you are going after, but I would just think that if this is going on, it could

be a little easier for you to narrow down what she is/isn't completing. Or,

could this be something that they are not doing with anyway? ?

Funny you mention the planner.... they just got theirs last week.... our

school starts then in 4th grade, so both my girls brought one home last

week. Sammy's is very clearly filled out... obviously copied from the

board, with assignments for the day, and also when things are due (for

example, Georgaphy is assigned on Monday and due Thursday, math is

assigned nightly and due the next day, Spelling contract is assigned

Monday and due Friday.... very clear.) Exactly how you'd want to see a

planner organized.

's is a mess. Last year, she wrote in it herself (again,

probably copied from the board.... maybe that's a 4th grade thing?) and

it was informative, but this year it's been filled out so far (4 days)

by the aide. Last week you couldn't tell what was assigned or when it

was due, but I thought " OK, it's new, let's see what happens next

week. " Today, she brought home the planner that had a spelling

assignment (like 4 pages) with no due date, so it can't be tomorrow, but

no due date was noted in the planner... just " spelling " today. There is

a writing piece that she started but didn't complete.... a " response and

summary " from a book they read in class. There is one paragraph written

on the front of the page, and a list on the back that looks like the

organization of a pargraphy (1. topic sentence 2. etc.) For today,

the planner says " response and summary that she didn't finish in class,

notes are on the back of the sheet in her binder " and for tomorrow

" response and summary due " . (Too bad I don't know what she's supposed

to do... says " I'm done, look! " , which I doubt since it came

home..... oh, and they didn't sent the book, so I will have to try and

get her to write something that I have no idea of even how to prompt

her.... never heard of the book... yes, that will go well.) There is a

note on the communication log about a social studies test on vocabulary

words on Thursday (haven't looked, but I didn't see any words.....) but

am I nuts, or should the planner say on Thursday, under social studies

" Vocab test today " or something like that? But hey, I heard about a

test 3 days in advance, which is also a huge improvement.

Yes, a planner is a great tool, and I will add THAT to my list for

Wednesday that the planner needs to be filled out completely, and that

necessary materials must be sent as well. Left the teacher a message

after school, but she hasn't called back yet, so my guess is she's gone.

On the plus, ears must have been burning as I typed today because

today's log was more completely filled out than it has been all year. I

kid you not, the resource teacher even wrote " good participation, raised

hand often to answer questions, was correct ~70% of the time " .... now

that's good information! I almost fell off my chair! And she listed

the name of the book they just finished and were discussing. Wow...

another good example to bring forward on Wednesday " now, if everyone

could just fill out thier sections like Mrs. E you'll never hear me

complain the rest of the year, LOL. "

OK, off to try and decipher the writing assignment... at least she's

happy to do the spelling... maybe if we turn in all 4 pages tomorrow it

will buy her a day on the writing assignment?

Well, you got that going for you...the resource teacher is one good example

anyway...

The other thing that went on in 's class last year with the planner was

that they had to be filled out somewhat legibly, and if there were missing

assignments, things not going home, and coming back to school, then her teacher

would sign, and the student's parent would sign. had to have hers

signed, so I knew this to be happening. Does the teacher check anybody else's

planner - or, what is the expectation for the other students' planners? I am

just thinking if they could be more specific with that, it would narrow down for

you what is working on.

I would not bother with MCGs of iodine--it's a waste of time and $$$.

try Lugols or Iodoral 12.5-25mg and hooray for you for being so

proactive.

I would do iodoral or lugols and the supplements that go with that like seasalt, 2000-4000vitamin C, magnesium, and methyl form of selenium at 200-400mcg and B vitamin supplement. Also would double your vitamin D3 to 4000 iu daily if you live North of Georgia. Sounds like you are on good course. Working with my sons to similar paths. Pam

Thank you all very much! That answered my own debate of whether to go with

magnescent or lugols. I will try the lugols drops at first, in diluted water

first thing in the morning. I am going to order the JCrows stuff.

I'll also increase my C intake to 5g, add salt to RO water, take the B complex

daily, and keep taking magnesium. I am going to research the selenium, and I

keep taking 2000iu of D in the summer as I spend much time outdoors, I take

5000IU of D October through April.
