At an early age she set her sights on being a star and became America's pre-eminent "prima ballerina." In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower declared her "Woman of the Year." She later taught at the School for American Ballet in New York City, and in 1981 she cofounded the Chicago City Ballet. At present, Tallchief is a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago's Women's Board and she is the opera company's director of ballet. She also works with young singers in the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists. By: Terri Hotmail: Trusted email with powerful SPAM protection. Sign up now.
