I have a gluten/cows milk allergy combo. I get the ear congestion stuff like

that. Sometimes when I " cheat " on these loud noises make me ear make a

crackling noise.

I sometimes get nausea when exercising on my back, such as situps or

crunches. The same thing was happening to me last year, but I stopped

doing those exercises for the winter. Has anybody heard of such a

problem or how to help it? When I was in junior high school I

experienced some nausea when doing somersaults.

Thanks very much.

Hi people,

I guess it's a sign of feeling brigher to be thinking about exercise,

unfortunately my weight has definitely gone up again over the last 2-3

months and my daugher is getting married in August, so I'm beginning to

worry that mother of the bride will resemble Mr Blobby! Ha!

Does anybody have any experience of or advice on returning to exercise

after adrenal/thyroid issues. I used to be a dedicated exerciser, was

one of the first things that went downhill, now I look back, but would

love to get going again. Also, are there anyways of sensible eating

that tend to work for us hypos! Sadly, I've never lost my appetite as

so many do.I don't do dieting!

All advice gratefully received. Thanks.

London's thawing thank goodness!

Hi ,

I agree with you here that if you are thinking about exercise its a

sign you are definitely feeling brighter...

I too used to be a dedicated exerciser and since putting 3 stone on

in a couple of years and having joint and back pains it has been very

hard to shift the excess weight. Luckily I have not put any on since

I've been on levothyroxine (last Feb). I am now 5 pounds lighter than

I was a year ago.

I go for a brisk walk every day if I can, at least 20 minutes and if

I can walk rather than take the car I do. I also walk up stairs

rather than take the elevator. I find this is gentle enough to keep

the blood circulating and to release those happy endorphins that help

to ward off depression. I am also going to start going swimming every

week as I want to look decent in my cossie when I go to Greece in

May!

On the food side...I swear by porridge. I have eaten this for

breakfast every day for years and I firmly believe that this is why I

don't have a problem with my cholesterol (yet), which is very common

with most hypothyroid sufferers. I also eat oat biscuits and lots of

fruit.

You've got 6 months till August when your daughter gets married which

is plenty of time to get your plan into action!! Good luck...you know

you can do it.

Hi ,

I am in the same position - feeling a bit brighter and hate the weight

that has piled on. I found a great website called Sparkpeople which is

a completely free site offering all sorts of diet and fitness resources

including videos, articles, recipes and personal fitness tracking

tools. There are also lots of groups within the community on the site

and one is hypothyroid people with weight to lose. You may find it

useful. Congratulations on feeling better and good luck with the

fitness regime.

In M E circles we are advised to start with gentle stretching

exercises. Dr P suggests the same, and also walking. You can start

with just a few minutes walk per day and build up gradually.

If you have reached the stage where you think you can build up your

fitness then Pilates is good. It is like a mixture of yoga and

Technique. It strengthens the core muscles and helps

promote proper use of the body without strain.

Try to find something you will really enjoy doing. I do gentle circle

dancing, which is hardly more strenuous than walking. The other

ladies there are very welcoming and the music is lovely. If it gets

too much no-one minds if I sit out at the side.

Hi ; I do pilates twice a week, it is very gentle and helps

keep you flexible. I also walk the dogs twice a day. I am glad you

are starting to feel better ! Kind regards Jane

Hi ,

Don't try to do too much too quickly- allow you body to heal.

Pushing your self to hard can cause a still stressed body into a

relapse.

Most folk seem to do best with a lowish refined carb regime with lots of

fresh stuff- it takes more chewing therefore we tend to eat slightly

less too!
