Hi Tracey,

(My DW's) Actavis Levothyroxine 100mcg manufactured dates 01/2009 and 02/2009

each contain lactose.

I don't know if that's been the standard formulation all along.

Check one or two packages for lactose further back in time, perhaps, to see if

any changes have been made or that's just a casual observation on them

dissolving in the mouth...?

best wishes

Bob

Hi Val - I would telephone the manufacturers and tell them

what has happened and ask if there has been a recent change in the formula

I've just taken a the first pills in a new

batch of actavis levothyroxine (a 50 mcg from 1 pack and a 100 mcg from

another).

The pills literally dissolved in my mouth before I had the chance to swallow

them with water. This has never happened with this brand of pills before. My

Any idea what could be the problem? Do I have a dodgy batch? Has the

Hi Val/Sheila

It seems odd that both Armour/Forest should switch to the cellulosic type filler

and that Actavis should have lactose in it and appears to be dissolving faster ~

wonder if they substituted dextrose for lactose in view of possible intolerance

to lactose in some people (Asian population perhaps?)

best wishes

As far as I know I've never been allergic to lactose. It is in practically

everything these days, especially pills. Maize starch is the thing I suspect

might be an issue for me and that is also in most pills. GP has referred me to a

dermatologist to check me for allergies and I'm waiting for the appointment.

The change in the behaviour of the thyroxine pill is not accounted for on the

pack info- which is identical as before. The pill dissolved as quickly as the

meltet type painkillers!

After I sent the message last night my eyeballs turned pink and bloodshot and

were still inflamed 3 hours later when I woke up to go to the loo. My nasal

lining bled all night and my mouth is still a bit sore. I'm convinced it is as

the result of that pill dissolving in my mouth before I could swallow it.

Hi Tracey,

Go back to doc and ask for a yellow card to report the reaction,

then ask for Eltroxin T4 instead as this brand has the least reported

reactions.

Subject: instantly dissolving levothyroxine

I've just taken a the first pills in a new batch of actavis levothyroxine (a

50 mcg from 1 pack and a 100 mcg from another).

The pills literally dissolved in my mouth before I had the chance to swallow

them with water. This has never happened with this brand of pills before.

My mouth and face are now begining to itch and burn like they do when I'm

allergic to something.

Any idea what could be the problem? Do I have a dodgy batch? Has the

manufacturer mucked about with the pill fillers? What should I do?
