Guest guest
What a bummer! My X-rays showed beautiful knees, but the MRI showed CP, a torn meniscus, a tear in the ACL, and something weird about the lateral collateral ligament. Now my new OS is sending me for a bone scan because apparently that will show anything that might be wrong with the bones that didn't show up on the X-ray. I think it's a little peculiar that your GP " didn't have time to read your med. notes " , since she should have read it before 9:00 if that was your actual appointment time, no? Hopefully when you see her next time (did you make the Sept. appt?) she'll be on the ball. When the NHS was introduced after the second world war doctors were afraid they might lose their independence. There was a lot of concern and debate about it at the time. They probably didn't foresee the impact of technology either, which has reduced the roles of clinical examination, experience and judgement even further. Guest guest
Hi Janet, I assume you may be in the Birmingham area, and that Dr Skinner's practice is well-known and is the subject of local prejudice, not helped by the BTA statement and Prof Jane lyn in particular, it may be long-term 'professional opposition' with no regard for patient well-being. It seems that they have been trying to stop Dr Skinner for a long time and slowly, slowly..... When we went to the GMC hearing in Manchester, the expert witness (Prof A Weetman) seemed to go into a different mode of speech when setting out his direct opposition to Dr Skinner's practice; it was almost robot-like, repeated from a memorised script. Astonishingly, he was so adamant during cross-examination by Dr Skinner's barrister that he would not utter the words that Dr Prentice, later, found quite easy to utter.... ie that there are some circumstances (eg Myxoedema) in which the TSH test and the Free T4 test are irrelevant, because the patient has a 50:50 chance of dying if nothing is done. An example from a while back is illustrative: in that a patient in the US (a well-known and internationally reputable transplant centre ) was in an ICU and about to have his ventillator switched off; his daughter made a reasoned plea for his treatment with T3 to restore his periferal thyroid function ( lab result showing NO T3 ). He had a liver complaint. On being given T3, his myxoedema began to resolve and he has since survived (4yrs) to have his liver transplant ( but not without the now compulsory hospital acquired infection ). [see the transcripts of the above proceedings on the TPA-UK website] telephone support is available if two modes of information input can overcome the 'spinning head' problem. best wishes Bob > > Hi everybody > > I have been offline for a bit while I quietly try and sort out my > head and take in the stuff that is spinning around but still can't > make any sense of anything or think of a realistic way forward for > the long term. Guest guest
I would write a letter to him and explain that as he didn't look at your symptoms list and as he didn't appear interested in your health that you need to be referred to an NHS endocrinologist and go under the care of a specialist in this area. Is he even going to pay any attention to the findings of Dr Skinner. This guy obviously is embarrassed because he does know so little - and actually, I do feel quite sorry for them. Look how complicated we have found this illness and when you realise that GP's are supposed to know a little about everything, we are expecting a lot from them - especially when we know they are not even being taught about the diagnosing and treatment correctly. If you are on Armour Janet, you MUST learn to look after yourself - your doctor cannot do this because he knows nothing about it. They are not even taught about T2,T1 and the other enzymes a normal thyroid makes. Also, do NOT have blood tests if you have taken any thyroid hormone in the last 24 hours. Sorry you have had such a rotten time with him, I really do feel for you - been there, done that, worn the T-shirt….but, I came out on top - even though my Armour has now been stopped by the NHS. I will just have to do what I can to make sure I am able to buy it myself, because the thought of reverting back to a medication that almost killed me is not an option. Luv - Sheila Hi everybody Seems to me that doctors have lost their ability to examine and prescribe for people, this chap has never even looked at me and makes decisions by looking at his computer. They just follow the instructions that if the blood test says this then they must prescribe that, so what on earth are we paying these guys for, any fool can fill this function like a robot. __
