Guest guest
Hi Chris I am very up & down (well without the proper ups). When people asked me this today, I said that I did not know how I am. I know this sounds weird but it is enough to try to cope with getting on with things, and at times it is not too bad, and then I feel rough/exhausted/floods of tears etc. It is weird. Yesterday I was not feeling too bad, and was even thinking about going out alone to get some meds for my dog from the vets 10 miles away, and then the dentist's receptionist phoned up to complain that my husband had not turned up for his appointment - I could not even talk normally enough to tell her, and instead read out the email I had sent her on 28th Dec which they had not read/gone astray whatever. Some organisations have been brilliant - Camra have transferred his membership to me so that I can use his Wetherspoons vouchers, others unbelieveably crap - TV licensing tell me that I have to send them a death cert & no I cannot trf the TV license to me, so I am not covered & no I cannot get any refund for less than a full quarter, so they are expecting us to pay twice for the same period. I am trying to remember a saying my friend said her mother used to say - we are only given troubles that our shoulders are broad enough to bear, or something like that. Sorry, I have rambled. Val So very sorry to hear about your husband. How are you coping, are you ok?Chris
Guest guest
Hi Val I cannot tell you how much I am thinking about you at this time and know that you will have to go through so much before you can come to terms with everything that is happening, the good, the bad and the indifferent. Have you considered contacting Cruse http://www.crusebereavementcare.org.uk/about_cruse.html This is a fantastic organisation that will help you enormously and will be able to offer lots of advice re the TV licensing authority etc under your circumstances. I know my neighbour across the road lost her husband suddenly and she told me she would have been completely lost without them. I thought the TV license covered the TV at a particular address - and licensed to a particular address - not to a particular person. That's a new one on me and is something I had never even considered. I think you are being extremely brave with all of this and it must be so awful when you have dentists phoning asking why your husband had not kept his appointment. It will get better eventually Val, though all of this will be helped by getting somebody from Cruse to visit you to help you out with all such problems. Guest guest
Hi Val You ramble as much as you need to. I know how my mother in law was when my father in law died, she was in a sea of paperwork and kept having to request repeat copies of death certificates for everything as they had not made a will, absolute nightmare. He had always done the paperwork, paid the bills etc. If I am feeling sad or not very well for any reason I tend to cuddle up with the dogs who seem to know and love and cuddle me back, it feels good. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I thought that too, but they said that that only means that no-one else has to have one also for the same address, and now he has died I am not covered at all, even though he had paid for this period, and no refund either. This stinks. I could not remember if I had already given my name & address to them, but my thought was to just buy one in my name when the next quarterly payment is due to go through, and not bother to send them a death cert or copy of one - why should I, I am thinking. Val I thought the TV license covered the TV at a particular address - andlicensed to a particular address - not to a particular person. That's a newone on me and is something I had never even considered.
Guest guest
Sounds to me as if you might have been speaking to someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. Often happens in large organisations. Try and get to speak to a manager or someone. When they go round listening for TV's on in places without a licence, they do not go by who holds the licence but whether there is a licence for that property. There IS a licence for your property so no one else need hold one for that address. If it is in your husband's name it belongs to his estate and you inherit his estate. If money is not refunded then the licence still stands as current as by accepting the money they have accepted a licence is issued. I would not bother and just get a new one when that one expires. Let them take you to Court and be laughed at when the case is dismissed. Watchdog on TV might be interested in that and your MP. Lilian I thought that too, but they said that that only means that no-one else has to have one also for the same address, and now he has died I am not covered at all, even though he had paid for this period, and no refund either. Guest guest
Hi Val, Some organisations seem to get joy from beating you when you are down. I hope you shoulders will widen as needed with our support. I would copy your correspondence to the TV licencing folk to your MP, they are notorious for being too tough ie wanting to enter houses where there is no Tv and therefore no licence instead of believing a signed statement. Guest guest
Hi Lilian, That was my thoughts too (the Court bit). However I thought that they would not know that he has died, but today I received a letter from them about the cancelled direct debit mandate. Still I will ignore it & buy one 1st of next month, so will only overlap by a few days. I will try to not have to send them a copy of the death cert as a matter of principle. Val I would not bother and just get a new one when that one expires. Let them take you to Court and be laughed at when the case is dismissed. Watchdog on TV might be interested in that and your MP. Guest guest
At the moment this is not a priority - I have too much paper work to deal with. I will ignore it until it bites me on the bum. Val Perhaps you could get the half hour free legal advice fromyour local CAN Val.Luv - Sheila
Guest guest
Hi Val, Sheila is right, it is the address thats covered. As long as you have a licence to produce if theres a chap at your door your ok. I used to work in the post office, and we issued TV licences. It should be changed to your name, but I would wait until it expires. Guest guest
Hi All in the East!! Sorry i missed the original posting but if I'm reading the thread correctly I too am in East Anglia (well Essex but only 20 or so miles from the Suffolk border so hope that counts) and I'd be really interested in a get together. I was sort of contemplating the April Jamboree in Yorkshire and I have that week off work. Its a long old drive although I should know the way having gone up to Leeds enough times as my daughter's at Uni there.Somewhere closer to home would be good though - the miles are beginning to stack up on the poor old car (and me!!).
