Sorry, the author was Dr. Abraham:

http://www.optimox.com/pics/Iodine/IOD-11/IOD_11.htm

My original post hasn't shown up yet, so I had to post this separately.

From the article: " The iodine transport damage was corrected at least partially

by administration of the antioxidant Vitamin C in a sustained released form at 3

gm/day for three months. "

Also: " Elevated bromide levels were observed in urine and serum samples, twenty

times the levels reported in the literature in normal subjects(8,9). Mild

bromism may have been the cause of the oxidative damage to the iodine transport

system and the side effects to orthoiodosupplementation. Chloride competes with

bromide at the renal level and increases the renal clearance of bromide (10,11).

Sodium chloride at 10 gm/day for one week resulted in marked increase in urine

bromide levels, and a sharp drop in serum bromide. "

Hope this helps.

Carol

doses to try and correct Hashimotos " looking " thyroids ( even though none of

them tested positive for the thyroiditis antibodies- I believe becaseu they have

always taken selenium which is supposed to prevent thyroiditis) In the process,

our pediatritian who recommended Iodoral, tracked their thyroids. Their glands

all greatly enlarged on the iodine and all of them had high serum thyroglobulin

only while on the Iodoral. Most docs don't even know about serum thyroglobulin

(it is different then the thyroiditis markers) so don't know to check for it,

but he says that it means the thyroid is " leaking " . It would always coincide

with how much iodine they were taking- lots of iodine= enlarged, cystic thyroid

gland and high serum thyroglobulin. When going off of the iodine= gland would

shrink and serum thyroglobulin would go to normal range. What is this?? Is this

the bromide, floride detox reaction of the thyroid gland by the iodine, or is it

a allergic/ sensitivity to the iodine?

iodide which for some can be irrating to the thyroid. Why is this never

discussed in Iodine circles? I am thinking that I have damaged my children's

thyroids. Has anyone experienced this? Is it normal for the gland to enlarge and

get cystic while going through a " detox " stage? I am scared to try Iodoral

again. They did test positive for symporter defect but we are taking the b2 and

niacin and zinc to offset that. Their thyroids just don't seem to uptake the

iodine. I am sure we aren't an isolated case.

Thanks for the reminder- we did try the 3 grams of C for awhile, but it didn't seem to help their thyroid states... I will try again. I talked personally to Dr. Abraham and Flechas and they did recommend the high C and B2 and niacin. What is sodium chloride, and is it recommended?

sodium chloride = salt

You might try the salt as recommended in the article and keep going with the

C--maybe even a higher dose if it is tolerated.

How much selenium and what form are they taking?
