Guest guest
Especially where there are a lot of people who have been diagnosed with CFS and cannot work who in fact get better with proper thyroid treatment. Also they are now trying to get people to stay in work longer and a lot of hypothyroidism starts in the middle to later years. People who give up work because they are 'tired' and told it is their age, could possibly carry on working, when treated properly. Guest guest
& Lilian I wholeheartedly agree. I am one such person. I am really struggling to cling on to a job which is fast disappearing on all fronts. I have been battling with the NHS for the past 2 years to get optimal treatment to improve my chances and move on to something within the same company but its been so dragged out I now face redundancy. At 53 and in my current befuddled state I stand little chance of finding another job with the same salary and benefits and to be honest I haven't got the will to try any more. I am so tired and brain fogged every day I just want to give up and do something less demanding and stressful but I know this then places all the financial burden on my husband who's own future income is currently uncertain. I have worked full time all my life and brought up 2 children without support. I have never claimed any benefits but at a time in my life where I need help from the state - where is it? I have so much debt I face bankruptcy if I am made redundant - no coincidence my debt exactly equals the amount my ex husband owes in unpaid maintenance!! All this on top of feeling almost constantly under par is a step to far. Still at least if I am laid off I can divert what energy and time I do have into fighting back at the idiots who put me in this position!! Guest guest
- this is quite a thought and needs looking into. I have my hands tied at the moment, I cannot take on anything else right now until I get other things out of the way first. Any enquiries you can make, or information you can collect, please do so, and if anybody can help on the forum, please let know. Luv - Sheila Hi Sheila/ all, Have been thinking (for most of the night) and have had a thought (just the one!). It is my job to work with individuals with disabilities to get them into work, and off bnefits as you probably all know, it is a huge DWP agenda to move people from incapacity benefit and back into the working world. The are even phasing out incapacity benefit and replacing it with employment support allowance. This new revelation about armour is huge, in relation to this. If we are talking about the economics of it all which invariably we are then does the dwp know about this recent decision? Also does the dwp know about all of your wonderful work and this forum Sheila? I think it may be an idea to try and get a handle on the facts and figures of people who are unfit for work and claiming benefits that could be made well with a raised awareness of all of this, I know it is a huge task and probably an unknown entity, but if the DWP are trying to reduce claims for incapacity benefit then perhaps we need to be presenting them with this information? Just a thought,
Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I have e-mailed Dawn my contact details as I am interested in joining a local group, I would be more than happy to explore this avenue further as a focus in one of these groups. I'm not sure how this piece of work would be best approached, yet but will keep thinking. > > - this is quite a thought and needs looking into. Guest guest
OH yeah, indeed I took a degree for when my son left home so I could get a decent job and support myself then BAM - TOTAL incapacity. I am now CFS, Hashimotos disabled full DLA and absolutely na***red. So they could save some money getting me back into work and I could pay the darn student loan and overdraft back Good point lotsa luv Dawnx
Guest guest
I have no idea about anybody setting up a 'local' group , where has this suggestion come from? I see the suggestion of a working party/steering committee as an Internet group and I think of 'local' groups as places where people go to each others houses or meeting rooms to discuss thyroid related matters. There ARE local support forums up and down the country, but TPA doesn't have any. If you want to join such a group, contact Lyn Mynott at Thyroid UK or (dare I say it) the British Thyroid Foundation who have lists of members who run them. Guest guest
Hi , This is a very interesting angle. I never returned to the formal workplace following diagnosis. I am self employed so I can do what I can when I can, but even now the thought of doing a 40 hour week is daunting, and I’m so much better then I was on T4. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Sorry for any confusion re 'local group', what I was referring to was the campaigning team volunteers as posted by Dawn, she suggested small teams of 4, targeting different areas to help with any campaigning - hope I haven't got it totally wrong, > > I have no idea about anybody setting up a 'local' group , where has > this suggestion come from? Guest guest
No - tis me getting confused - so if I'm confused, I'm sure you are too - so let's be confused together. I just took it to mean something different - as states, it's the 'imprecision of the language'. I have no idea what Dawn means when she suggests small teams of 4 targeting different areas to help with campaigning - certainly this did not come from TPA. Perhaps when she comes back she can throw more light on this 'cos I is confused.
