Guest guest
Hi Margaret The weird feelings you are getting could be because your thyroid hormone replacement isn't able to get into your tissues properly because you could have one of the 'Associated Conditions' that goes along with being hypothyroid. Have a look at these in our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk and click on 'Hypothyroidism' and then click on 'Associated Conditions' in the drop down Menu. Read all about these there. Also, please ask your GP to check the following blood results. Ferritin, B12, Vitamin D, Copper, Zinc and Magnesium. If you are low in any of these, you will not be able to absorb the hormones in Armour and you will get the toxicity symptoms. Are you getting palpitations, feeling slightly dizzy, sweating, feeling 'spaced-out' and/or fidgety? Also, you may have systemic Candidiasis, but you would need to have a blood test to see if you have Candida Antibodies. You can get this checked out at Genova Diagnostics www.gdx.uk.net I doubt your sinus feelings are anything to do with Armour, but your doctor should be treating you for whatever is causing this problem. Any chance of changing your endoprat - after all, who wants to waste their time seeing such a plonker. Luv - Sheila However I am still breathless and " bunged UP " nasally if you know what I mean and air hungry.Walked up one flight of stairs and breathless not like me at all.I truly believe its because at the moment I am under medicated !!!!!!!!!! I am also feeling a bit weird as in a bit nervous and worrying about all kinds of things (not a nice feeling) I am not usually like this and I am imagining all sorts of things.Could this be because I am not as yet on full dose???????????????? and is playing " tricks on my mind " I remember years ago before I knew what was wrong feeling a bit strange. Also my Endo tells me all my probs are " MY AGE " (change the bloody record) I have been looking into this Serenity cream can any one who uses it tell me what they think please. Guest guest
Hi Sheila Thank you for your prompt response.I am on the Candida diet and have improved greatly in this dept.I have posted all other results copper zinc magnesium etc which were all okay.I have no palpatations sweaty or dizzy just a weird worry feeling. My Endoprat is sacking me on the nezxt appointment because I refuse to say I am depressed (I am not) and I have refused HRT .He refused Armour because it is rubbish HIS description not mine.My doc does not know I am on Armour as he is Dr No fat women in the jungle so I would not waste my breath.YOU know more about all this than him.I must though concede (reluctantly) that I am a women of a certain age and that is why I asked for some advise on the Serenety cream I have heard about.Maybe I need some help in that dept as he did test my sex hormones which were high???? I will have to try and grin and bear the Armour and hope the next increase shows an improvement.I see nurse on the 1st April will have thyroid blood test then for what they are worth. Guest guest
Margaret - can you ask the nurse to take that little bit more blood and check out your sex hormones. It is likely you have high oestrogen (many hypothyroid women are oestrogen dominant) and if that is the case, then yes, you need some natural progesterone to balance your sex hormones. Many people report quite dramatic results. Somebody will be along to tell you about this. I have no experience personally. I do know that Sereneity Progesterone Cream is the best. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply Sheila. The Endo did do my sex hormones and said they are very high.I will dig em out and post em.He insists I need HRT which I insist on NOT taking.I will ask the nurse for a further test as you suggest but think I may try some serenety.I will have been on two grains of Armour for 3 weeks on Thursday so may try upping it to 2and a half and see if that helps. Guest guest
Have you read Dr Thomson's book yourself? I'd be interested to know what it says. Calcium and magnesium tend to act in opposition to each other and many people are deficient in magnesium. Does he suggest we should avoid all dairy products? Some people say they get " bunged up " when they consume dairy products, but I excluded them for a while and didn't notice any benefits. I have been using the Serenity cream for nearly 6 months now and it has been really great for me. My sleep has improved enormously, both in quantity and quality. I had very disrupted and poor sleep for about 19 years before that and tried all kinds of things, none of which helped. I am sure it is the Serenity cream rather than the adrenal or thyroid treatment because I am supposed to have one week off in every 4, but my sleep became worse at those times so for the present I am not having the week's break. I did the Genova Diagnostics oestradiol/progesterone test beforehand and it showed I was deficient in oestrogen. According to Dr Lee's books the saliva test is measuring something different to a hormonal blood test. He says that after using the progesterone cream changes will be apparent in the saliva test, but would not show up in the blood test - one reason doctors generally don't believe the cream isn't effective. I get breathless and have palpitations if I do anything the least bit aerobic. I mentioned this to Dr P on the phone this week. Basically he says it will take time for my receptors to become re-sensitised to the T3 because I have been ill for such a long time. I have noticed various physical improvements though - much less muscle pain and better recovery after exercise. He reckons there will be a great change in my health over the coming year, so I just have to be patient and stick with the programme. Best wishes, Miriam > I wonder if anyone can help just looking for a bit of encouragement really. After 16 years on thyroxine I changed to Armour 47 days ago the last nine I have been on 2 grains a day. I am still breathless and " bunged UP " nasally if you know what I mean and air hungry. Also my Endo tells me all my probs are " MY AGE " (change the bloody record) I have been looking into this Serenity cream can any one who uses it tell me what they think please. > > Finally (honest) has anyone read the book The Calcium Lie by Dr Thomson. He talks of type 2 hypothyroidism and Resistance to thyroid hormone.I have it if anyone would like it your welcome. Guest guest
Hi Miriam, I was interested in your experience with progesterone cream. Have I read it correctly, that you take it 3 weeks out of the four? How much are you taking? I started taking serenity last month and felt so much better, but after my period started to feel rubbish again and get really sick, I started the cream again yesterday and feel so much better, although it technicaly i am only on day 9. so I wondered if I can take the cream three out of four weeks? What are your thoughts? Guest guest
They usually send out a leaflet with the Serenity cream and that provides instructions. I use it for 3 weeks out of 4 because I am post-menopausal. Otherwise I think it is used during the second half of the month, but check in the leaflet. This is when progesterone levels should naturally build up in the monthly cycle, but often don't. That's encouraging that you have noticed some benefits already. Dr Lee's books say that it takes about 6 months to correct a progesterone deficiency, so I wouldn't expect everything to sort itself out in the first few months. I use the pea-sized amount they recommend. How big is a pea? What I do is mark in my health diary when I expect the jar to be half empty, and check whether I am using the right amount then. Usually I have been a bit overcautious so have to slap it on a bit more liberally for the second half. Dr Lee's books emphasize that it doesn't do any good to use more than specified, so you would only be wasting money to use more. Hope this helps, Miriam > I was interested in your experience with progesterone cream. Have I read it correctly, that you take it 3 weeks out of the four? Guest guest
Hi Margaret, I would like to read your book. Shall I send postage first- or include it when I return your book? Just email me privately and we can take it from there. Have you thought of adding it to the list of books that we have in our ‘library’- owned by members who are prepared to lend. Some of mine have been all over the country. See the list in the files area. I think that you are right in thinking that you are not optimised yet- it takes a long time to get to the right meds and often longer for the body to utilise then properly. Doc just taking the easy way out- what he means really is’ I don’t know and I don’t want to talk about it’!! I have used serenity for 9 years and have found it the most effective of the progesterone creams around- it may be more expensive- but you tend to use less to get the same effect! I was recommended it by dr. P. Subject: Sheila and group help Hi all Margaret here. Hope you are all well. Guest guest
Oh Poor, poor Margaret. I am so sorry this is happening to you, but don't automatically think this is the end of the line and that you are going to lose all your hair - some people do, it has to be faced, but others find their hair grows back again. Some hypothyroid sufferers lose their hair when on no medication, others when they use levothyroxine, others when they use natural thyroid extract but personally, I do not believe that losing hair is related to medication. You may have antibodies to your hair follicles, in the same way as you can have antibodies to your thyroid, or antibodies to other organs in the body. I very much doubt it would help going back onto synthetic thyroxine, you would just get the same old symptoms back Margaret, and probably still carry on losing your hair. However, from your description, you could be suffering from alopecia - so do go to see your doctor and get his opinion. This could be quite temporary, but get tested first before you start to worry that your beautiful thick hair will be gone forever. I am certain that losing your hair is sheer coincidence to starting Armour, and Margaret, please don't expect that because you are now on Armour you are going to lose weight automatically - you could well lose a fair bit, but you need to give it plenty of time for your body to get back to functioning normally again. All I can say Margaret is that if you are determined it is Armour, then you would need to try the experiment and go back onto Eltroxin and perhaps T3, and see if that stops your hair falling out. luv - Sheila Hi Sheila and group Hope all are well. I am very upset today and hope someone can help me.I have now been on Armour for 4 months built up slowly after 18 years on Eltroxin (the last 3years on Eltroxin not too good).I am on 3 grains of Armour and 25mcg of Eltoxin.I tried a bit more Armour but felt awful so 3 is my sweet spot.My last blood tests were good.At the moment I am looking after 3 cats and gardens on different parts of the Wirral while my pals are on holiday.I am working 12 hours a day painting with my partner converting a flat (we need the money) My energy is amazing and I can go on and on and on.Here is my problem.I still look awful.I have not lost an ounce in weight no matter how hard I work. Here is the worst part,in all my years on Eltroxin I have had beautiful thick hair,My thyroid problems have never touched my hair.Over the past month my hair has become thinner and thinner and over the weekend I have noticed patches all over my scalp were hair is missing.I am devastated so much so that I am thinking of stopping the Armour and returning to Eltroxin.I have lost my looks and my figure and refuse to lose my hair too.It just seems a coincidence that since I started Armour my hair is awful.Maybe I need Eltroxin and T3 instead???? Guest guest
Hi Margaret, I lost about 1/3 of my hair when I was on T4 both through patchy alopecia and general thinning GP did not offer anything, but then he was ignorant of most things except rugby injuries. I found that it regrew when I changes to Armour and T3 with hydrocortisone. Later a I tried to wean of the HC patches started to appear again, so it is linked to both thyroid status and adrenal status, so both need to be looked at. I treid the glandulars, but they did little to help- the HC was the answer, and now after 9 years I am nearly weaned off the HC, and am still keeping my hair, except for a couple of pea sized spots, which are easily hidden. You may have found your optimum dose of Armour, but try fiddling around with either T4 or T3 to see if that helps- sometimes you reach a plateau and then can go further after a while when your body has git used to it all. Guest guest
Hi Margaret What price energy and feeling good? My question is do you? Feel good, you say your energy is amazing and you can go on and on. Please be aware that when your metabolism is suddenly turned up you go through other things faster, for instance T3 burns through cortisol faster than when you have it lower on Eltroxin. Lower cortisol drops blood sugar, what I am saying is your metabolism has changed in a chain of events. Now do you feel MUCH better than when you were on Eltroxin? I know hair loss is horrible and something I have read many people suffering on the thyroid forums. Mine is very thin and I live in horror of it getting worse. However I will say if I had energy and no hypo symptoms I would buy a wig rather than go on T4 and not be able to function. I don't know how bad you were before the Armour hon, but it is definately something to think about seriously. If you do have autoimmune thyroid disease it could be that you have another autoimmune disease. I have heard that Armour can feed it unless you supress the TSH, now don't quote ME on this I am not a DR and bear in mind that you are still on 25mg of thyroxine. Why not knock that off and up the Armour? Just a thought luv. I hope that you can resolve it. Are you doing too much? You say you need the money, are you overly stressed? Take care Margaret luv Dawnx

Guest guest
Before you see your doctor Margaret, do stop your thyroid hormone replacement 24 hours before you get your blood tested as the test results will be skewed if you have taken any on the morning of the test. Guest guest
Margaret - read the message I have posted today on my thoughts regarding the 'new' Armour. There have not been the same reports in the UK as there have been in the USA. and I have been taking the new Armour for quite some time and both of us are absolutely fine. Your hair falling out has nothing to do with the 'new' formulation. Hypothyroid sufferers have been suffering with hair loss for centuries. Had you been still taking the 'old' Armour, I am certain you would still be suffering with your hair loss. If you are feeling better, you should NOT be stopping your Eltroxin and dropping your Armour down by half a grain - you will make yourself feel worse, and once you start to get back your hypothyroid symptoms, it will be so difficult to get back your energy again. I know, I have seen this happen to many members over the years. If you want to reduce your medication, then I would recommend reducing your Eltroxin by 25 mcgs and if, after a month or so, you still feel fine, then reduce your Eltroxin again by another 25 mcgs and reduce it that way. I would not recommend reducing your Armour because you are getting ALL the thyroid hormones your body requires. On the other hand Margaret - you do not even KNOW it is your thyroid hormone replacement that is causing your hair loss - it could be something else, or another autoimmune problem. Luv - Sheila ..I am stopping Eltroxin today and taking 2 and half grains Armour instead of 3 and see what happens. My pulse has gone from 60BPM to 76BPM . Feel good, you say your energy is amazing and you can go on and on. Please be aware that when your metabolism is suddenly turned up you go through other things faster, for instance T3 burns through cortisol faster than when you have it lower on Eltroxin. Guest guest
Yes Margaret I did hear about it. I haven't had that problem because a while ago when armour got scarse I started not chasing it and went on Naturethroid. Some seem to report a problem some don't I think it is really odd. As Nick says it could be just a batch. You could have anything going on with your hair. You could have dropped low in other hormones (testosterone?) or your vits and minerals? Or as Shiela says it could be autoimmune. It is wierd this Armour going on though. lotsa luv Dawnx
Guest guest
Hi Margaret, Sorry your hair is causing you distress. I am sure all the advice everyone has given you will help. When I first tried to take T3 late last year my hair started falling out, just all over not patches. The plughole in the shower would block up and an abundancy of stray hairs were found all over the house. The T3 was not going in so I had to drop back on the levothyroxine, lowering it gradualy over time. (Dr P's advice) I tried again in March to take only half a tablet and it started to go in and my hair stayed put this time. Try not to let it get you down and don't give up trying to get well. You sound as though you have better energy than me. Keep up the good work. Luv Stephie >the Armour and returning to Eltroxin.I have lost my looks and my figure and refuse to lose my hair too.It just seems a coincidence that since I started Armour my hair is awful.Maybe I need Eltroxin and T3 instead???? > > Sorry this is so long but I am desperate if anyone has had this problem on Armour can you please let me know.I take all the supplements I have done Candida diet religiously and am on NAX.I would have felt fab but this has knocked me for six.I need to know if its the Armour !!!!!!!!!!! > > Margaret >
