It will be fairly minor, small incision, 20-30 minutes long but they will give him antibiotics and pain killers. Two weeks ago he was tested for asthma, given a shot of albuterol and he had a night terror that night. When he has these night terrors his body temp is quite low, very cold feet. Guest guest Posted August 10, 2009 Report Share Posted August 10, 2009 Steroids (albuterol) can ‘use up’ thyroid and can cause low thyroid – low thyroid is a major cause of night terrors (my son had them). My son has very little cortisol, and his thyroid is borderline. Are you supporting his adrenals? If thyroid is low it will down regulate cortisol (adrenal) – adding more steroid (cortisol) will use up any thyroid floating around causing thyroid to be low. Anyway, vicious cycle! Not saying that’s the problem, but just giving you something else to consider. I will be having an extensive surgery on my left knee in the next couple of months sometime (I'm on a call list). I'm wondering if I should take iodine right up to the night before surgery? Also, how soon following surgery should I resume? I'm sure I'll be on painkillers and I will try to avoid antibiotics but that may not be possible. Recovery time is six to eight weeks to return to work and then ongoing therapy. I'm not worried about the ongoing part but that first few weeks promise to be a challenge as I live alone and will likely be in bed the first couple weeks most of the time. Just trying to figure out how to do iodine during this time... Anyone have experience with this? What works? What doesn't? What is recommended? How soon after a traumatic surgery should one resume iodine? I am just now putting together a protocol for my 18-yr-old son, who had them almost nightly until at least age 3. I know now that I was in bad shape with adrenals and thyroid when I carried him.
