My doctor has me take 200 mg of Magnesium 2 x a day. Also, a sublingual

Melatonin before I go to bed.

My doctor had me take this first but I had a better response with the magnesium

and melatonin.

Yes my doctor suggest HTP with GABA for serotonin.  Just started a few weeks ago.  I think its helping.

They suggestion starting with 50 mg of GABA mid-afternnon then before sleep. Same with HTP.

Do you take the 5-HTP with food or an empty stomach?

Yes my doctor suggest HTP with GABA for serotonin. Just started a few weeks ago. I think its helping.

They suggestion starting with 50 mg of GABA mid-afternnon then before sleep. Same with HTP.

Depends. Usually mid-afternoon no food and also before bed but I don't think it matters.  I eat small meals throughout the day so I always have something in my stomach.

I just finished a bottle of 5HTP. I was taking one at night and I find

it helps me sleep. Sometimes I forget and sometimes I fall asleep

anyway, but usually I when I find myself tossing and turning I realize

that I forgot to take my 5HTP. I might switch to valerian root. I find

it helpful, for a while, in getting to sleep. I tried melatonin a long

time ago and it didn't help one bit in helping me sleep. I didn't

notice that the 5HTP diminished in effectiveness. The bottle had 120

capsules, so I've been using it for months now.

I just started on 5-HTP after the group recommendation. I take 3 x's per day.

Have been on for 4 days now. I feel that I am sleeping deeper with many more

dream cycles than I have in some time. But, I am still waking up after 4 hours.

I am hoping that goes away in a week or two.

Tye taking L-Tryptophan, which is an amino acid that governs sleep, seratonin and melatonin which also helps with mood.

This should help re-establish sleep pattern. There are also herbs you can take, but first try this.
