Am I hyper-sensitive to iodine or what??

Hello,

I had the urine test thing and my results were 70%. My nurse

practitioner told me to take 4 iodoral a day. The first two days I

took 1 per day...on day 3 and 4 I took 2. ON the 4th day...day 2 of

taking 2 I had HORRIBLE anxiety and a weird kind of numbness/coldness

in my chin...and produced copious amounts of spit. I tend towards

anxiety but had not had anxiety like for YEARS. Is it possible to have

a reaction like this to the iodoral on that low of a dose after just 4

days?? Or am I just crazy?? There's lot's of physical stuff I can

manage for awhile...on-going panic is not one of them! Thanks for any

input.

The question is are you on anything else for your thyroid? Like armour? I made my husband go on this really slowly as he has reactions to all types of stuff. I just moved him up to two iodine. But he is also on Armour and it is a balance.

Oh yes, I forgot to include that....I take 1/2 grain of Armour a

day...a very low dose as I understand it.

I think you would feel much better on 4 Iodoral a day, and you might have to increase Armour. I could not tolerate less than 50mg Iodoral (now I take 100mg).

I also get those symptoms at very low doses and I am taking both armour

and cortef. There are a few of us on this list, or used to be

anyway.

Carol,

At Ray Peat's website there is an article that tells you how to

monitor your thyroid and adrenals with temperature and pulse while

you are trying to improve the condition of your thyroid. Temperature

and pulse can give you insight to what's going on.

And don't forget, 2 Iodoral is not such a small dose. And I think

someone else said this too, but it might help if you took more of

they thyroid glandular. The iodine might be forcing an issue that

your thyroid can't keep up with. If you try 4 Iodoral and it doesn't

calm things down, you can try starting from the beginning with equal

amounts of Iodoral and Armour (is that the one you said you're

using?) and working your way up.

Did you take the salt-loading protocol with it? These practitioners have to learn to automatically prescribe it along with the iodine or some people will get the exact detox symptoms you describe. Check out the recommended way to take iodine to minimize detox. www.breastcancerchoices.org/iprotocol
