Guest guest
Good morning...I have been doing the salt loading protocol with great results. However, this AM I have to be out of the house all morning and can't deal with the side effects. So I skipped the iodine. When I get back about noon, would it be OK to do it then or will the iodine that late keep me up all night? Thanks for any input. I hate to lose the progress I'm making. Guest guest
mec - I googled around to see if low mg could be a cause of leg and foot edema and no, couldn't find any source that stated such. What i found were links to trauma, weight, high progesterone, DVT, kidney, liver or heart problems, thyroid problems, venous insufficiency... in other words, could be one of a lot of (some very serious) things. Guest guest
Lori,Those are the things I found too but I can't figure out which it is. No it hasn't been going on, it's pretty recent. It first started not long ago when I had salt with iodine, then it happened again when I took iodine tablets for an iodine loading test, so I thought it was because of iodine detoxing bromine. The swelling went away then, now I have it again but didn't take any iodine this time. Maybe the iodine started it all and now I'm getting swelling for another reason. I just don't know wether I should salt load or how much, I haven't heard back from anyone on that yet.ElyseOn Fri, Jul 31, 2009 at 1:08 PM, MzBruzard <mzbruzard@...> wrote: mec - I googled around to see if low mg could be a cause of leg and foot edema and no, couldn't find any source that stated such. Guest guest
Elyse, I can't find any references to leg, foot edema and iodine and/or bromide. Wish I could help. All I can suggest is - if you continue with the salt protocol - monitor your blood pressure. Guest guest
Here is the salt loading protocol http://www.naturalthyroidchoices.com/SaltAdrenal.html You normally supplement with 1/2 tsp of unrefined salt but if you are having detox symptoms, then you would use the salt loading protocol. You should not do this more than a few days. If you have to do it more than a few days you should back off on your iodine supplementing to ease the overload on your body. stephanie From: <@...>iodine Sent: Thu, November 19, 2009 12:14:03 AMSubject: Salt Loading When (morning or evening), how often, and for how long, should you salt load? Guest guest
Salt Loading 1/4 teaspoon* unrefined salt dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water, then followed immediately with 12-16 oz pure water. Repeat in 30-45 minutes if needed. May repeat again until copious urination begins. Observe subjective response (usually within several hours). *Iodine Investigation Project participants have found 1/2 teaspoon salt dissolved in water works faster than the 1/4 teaspoon dosage. Guest guest
I take 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a half cup of water every morning, followed by the water like your post said, about an hour after my get out of bed supps. Every other day or so, I try to take another 1/2 teaspoon in water in the afternoon too. I like to take two days off from everything during the week *shrug* It seems to be working for me, I've had no detox symptoms. I'd rather prevent the symptoms than mess with curing them after I start to feel bad. I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired, that I'd probably take the salt and water three times a day, if it would prevent me from dealing with detox symptoms. Guest guest
yeah I like to avoid the detox too! I take 1/2 tsp in the morning with my iodoral then take 1/4 tsp to 3/4 tsp with the supplements that I take with my largest meal later in the day. Generally I drink water all day long so although I gulp down a bunch when I take my salt I doubt I ever take the amount of water that the salt loading calls for at the specific time I take the salt. Of course with my later day supplements I take so many dang pills that I have to put down quite a bit of water just to swallow them all LOL So even though I don't follow the instructions completely what I do works for me. Guest guest
The salt loading is just for immediate symptoms. Say this morning you took iodine and all the supplements and you got a terrible headache and brain fog. You take the salt loading, and keep repeating today, until the headache and fog goes away. That shows you have cleared it out. You do this whenever you have detox symptoms. But if your detoxification pathways are clear, you won’t experience detox symptoms because it will clear out quickly on its own. So you can detox without symptoms if your pathways are clear. It is generally recommended that if you have to salt load 5 days in a row, you need to back down on the iodine and take steps to clear up your detox pathways. Yes, detox can take weeks, months, years. Don’t confuse the salt supplementing with salt loading. See my post of earlier today from the “New member files” that lists both things. They are different!
