Guest guest
Dorothy, (I just found this old post from Lynne, so am reposting as it might answer your questions) gracia In my experience with patients enrolled in Breast Cancer Choices' Iodine Investigation Project, I would estimate that 40% initially had some side effects at the 50 mg dose. I will go out on a limb here and say that probably more patients than that had side effects which they didn't recognize as side effects, such as lethargy and brain fog. Perhaps breast patients are more loaded with bromide as Dr. Brownstein's experiment showed (they excreted 50% more bromide than non breast cancer patients.) Since I experienced side effects myself as the bromide detox built up, I feel fortunate about having these side effects. It made me research them more and look in how powerful bromide detox is. It made me think, "toughing it out" was perhaps not the ideal solution unless you have active cancer. People will just stop taking iodine if their bromide detox symptoms are discounted. My best friend has never, ever had a single side effect at 100 mg (other than getting smarter) and it must be hard for her to understand what it's like for some of us. Side effects can sneak up on you gradually. You might get joint pain and think, oh well, it's arthritis. I was limping before the light bulb went off in my head and I realized a brief washout of iodine was needed. I felt the bromide was getting "stuck" trying to get out. Sure enough, a break washed it out and I resumed dosing with more salt loading. Taking the high dose Vitamin C helps also.
