It was the government who made it a possibility. Before that, you lost your job, you lost your insurance. I did the same thing. COBRA is a great thing, but it didn't come about thru the church or your neighbors. It was a government program, designed to help people like you. And eBay, the Internet: also came about via a government program. A military program at that. A lot of the technology was a result of NASA funding. NASA invented a lot of things, which by law are public property, and that started the whole computer revolution. It was a government thing. So did your freedom to go to the church of your choice (that was a really radical, left-wing, liberal ideal back in 1776!) At it's best, government is like a Coop, there to serve the members. Our government is actually pretty good at it. But it works best when the Coop members make their voices heard and ask for what they need and want. Right now, health care is taken over mostly by insurance companies. We can take it back. If we want. Your choice.
Guest guest
Depends on the company, and the state. Some states have passed legislation that protects us, and I'm thankful to live in one. Guest guest
Before COBRA I used to take out a major medical policy which would have covered the "smashed in the road" issues. You are nit picking here and missing the point. As I stated in an earlier message - if you don't have anything new and solid to contribute let's get back to Iodine. ----- Original Message ----- From:
Guest guest
Correct - so the blanket statement cannot be made that if you get cancer you cannot get covered. Steph ----- Original Message ----- From:
Guest guest
Hey, JeetJet? That's not a sandwich. That's a Philly Cheese Steak. And I take mine 'with raw' and a Birch Beer. Jim, Born in Hahnaman on N. Broad. Hey I got cancer too. If I were to lose my insurance tomorrow and could not pay for COBRA I couldn't get coverage either. But there are hospitals here that would treat me and I would have to pay them back. I do not expect anyone to pay for my insurance but myself and it is a risk I bear every day. Insurance is NOT a right. It is a privilege. My mom & dad never had insurance. It has only been in the last 40 years or less that it has become the standard. Why? Because we have more technology to do more things. Because people have sued doctors so much that healthcare costs have skyrocketed due to malpractice insurance. Where does it stop? I want free disability insurance now in case something happens and I can't work. Oh yeah let's throw in life insurance so that my family can pay ot bury me because after all I had cancer so who knows. Government's job is not to provide services because when it tries it only takes from the people to give it to others - they are not a business generating revenue. I believe that my church, family and friends are my helpers. That's how it used to be. I don't want a handout from anyone. There were times when I was sick and fighting cancer, having treatment and I worked any job I could selling stuff for others on ebay and whatever else while caring for an infant and a toddler to pay for our COBRA. I did it by the grace of God and never even considered that it was the Government's job to give me insurance.
