I think I meant to say The Dead Sea is where they mine BORAX - a halide

that knocks out iodine.

I haven't read that borax is dangerous. Here is more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borax

Can you point me to where you read it is a halide (which it isn't) that knocks out iodine.

Fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine are halides.

I thought bromide was a halide. I saw on an email from this or another

group that it was havested from the Dead Sea. They could have been

wrong and thus me too.

Hi Michele,

I too have Hashis and I have been taking iodine since July. I was warned off it by my Endocrinologist. However, I found that the protocol of the Iodine Project, which I follow, is working well for me for the moment, although I think my GP is waiting to see if I will crash or something. I think the reason that the Iodine Project Protocol works is because of the selenium. Iodine on its own would produce an immune reaction. However, I believe the selenium in the Iodine Project Protocol takes away the peroxide radical which is produced when T4 is manufactured. I believe that it is this peroxide radical hanging around in the thyroid which provokes the immune reaction in the first place. My advice is if you take iodine, follow the protocol of the iodine project TO THE LETTER. Also read all the literature you can find on the Iodine Project and the Iodine Loading test and if you decide

to follow it, make sure you do a regular loading test so as not to "overshoot" with the iodine, which can provoke serious problems.

Since I have taken iodine, I have not had any increase in auto-immune anti-bodies, I can no longer feel my breast cysts (10 in each breast, one of which was the size of my little finger) and I have stopped having heart flutters. I did the loading test and was severely deficient in iodine, so I am not expecting to it to have an impact on my thyroid until about a year after starting (unlike the 3 to 6 months mentioned in the literature of the Iodine Project for mildly deficient patients).

I read the Iodine Project literature over and over before starting. It was really the most difficult decision I have ever taken, mostly because I was intimidated by the scepticism of others (health care professionals), who had not even read the documents! I am really glad I did it now. However, if I crash or have a disaster, I will let the group know!

Hope this helps,

MacG.
